The 2021 Mazda CX-3 will be offered in a single trim level named the Sport trim. Prices for this trim start from $20,790 for the FWD drivetrain while the AWD model costs $22,190. A destination fee of $1,100 will be added separately. As only one trim is offered, the 2021 Mazda CX-3 gets a long list of practical features as standard. From the exterior point of view, features such as 16-alloy wheels, LED headlights DRLs, and taillights are standard. 

The 2021 CX-3's cabin also offers a lot of comfort and technological features for its price. Some of them include cloth upholstery, automatic climate control, a 7-inch touchscreen with Andriod Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 6-speaker stereo, a voice recognition audio system and the list goes on. The 2021 CX-3 doest get any additional packages like its rivals but there are some accessories that are available as add-ons for some extra bucks.

 There are not a lot of options to choose from with the 2021 Mazda CX-3. The Sport trim however is well packed with lots of features and the engine also packs in a decent punch. The 2021 CX-3 comes loaded with some of the best modern techs and features like a 7-inch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 6-speaker stereo, cloth upholstery, voice recognition, and many more. We prefer adding the rear parking sensors to the safety features list for $500 and a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror for $323.

The 2021 Mazda CX-3 is offered with a 2.0L SKYACTIV-G Inline-4 engine that produces 148 hp and 146 lb-ft. of torque. Transmission duties are handled with the help of a 6-speed automatic transmission that powers the front wheels. An optional predictive intelligent AWD system sends up to half of the power to the rear wheels before occupants feel any slip. The transmission does an excellent job of picking the right geat at the right time and holds lower gears to maintain speed. 

That sporting character manifests itself dynamically with agile handling and tenacious grip, making the 2021 CX-3 a truly engaging car to drive. The standard G vectoring control system improves cornering in a way that is supposed to be totally transparent to the driver and the passengers. The ride quality is better than it used to be but there's still some rear-end bounce and wiggle that's evident. That's due to the solid rear-axle suspension. The steering control is also impressive.

Although the 2021 CX-3 makes less power, it impresses its buyers with straight-line speed. It does the 0-60 MPH sprint in 8.2 seconds whereas the quarter-mile timings are at 16.3 seconds. The top speed is rated at 114 MPH. Unlike its performance, stopping capabilities have never been the strongest point for the CX-3. It is equipped with the same 11.6-inch rotors in the front and 11.1-inch rotors in the rear. The 2021 CX-3 takes 127 feet to stop from 60-0 MPH. 

The CX-3 makes the most power in this table and also has good performance numbers. The Chevy Trax makes the least power but impresses with better acceleration than the other rivals. The Honda HR-V makes 141 horses but stands behind the Trax in terms of performance. The Toyota C-HR is the slowest contender despite making 144 horses due to its heavy curb weight.

The 2021 Mazda CX-3 excels at efficiency- The Car Connection

This is one of the major reasons for the popularity of the Mazda CX-3 among American customers. Thanks to its excellent fuel economy, the 2021 Mazda CX-3 also scores some extra brownie points among its fans. According to the EPA, the 2021 CX-3 returns 29 MPG in the city, 34 MPG on a highway, and 31 MPG combined. 

The 2021 CX-3 gets a total appetite of 12.7 gallons, which is the least. However, it does make up for the extra range with a more efficient engine. With its tank completely filled, the 2021 CX-3 delivers 394 miles in mixed proportions. Overall, the CX-3 is one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in the segment and outperforms all its competitors by some margin.

The CX-3 enjoys sitting at the top of the table with 31 MPG combined mileage. The Honda HR-V and the Toyota C-HR share the same fuel tank capacity but the HR-V has better fuel efficiency while the C-HR slips to third place with 29 MPG combined. The Chevy Trax's fuel estimates are quite less compared to its rivals and sit in the last place.

The 2021 Mazda CX-3 comes well equipped and ergonomically designed on the inside. It also gets a black-themed interior, which looks decent and gives the baby SUV a more upscale feel. It can seat up to five people and gets cloth upholstery as standard. The front seats are comfortable and provide good support on long hauls. There is enough head and legroom provided in the front row for six-footers. The steering wheel is tilt and telescopic and gets various controls on it. 

The rear seats have a good recline angle and are comfortable as well. The only problem here is space. The legroom can be less for people with long legs while headroom is decent. Also, the center armrest with the cupholders doesn't help either. The cargo capacity offered is also not the best in the segment. With all the rear seats up, 17.8 cu-ft. of space is available. Thanks to the 60/40 split function, the rear seats fold and you get 42.7 cu-ft. of cargo space. 

The Honda HR-V offers the most space in the rear row and is also the most practical SUV in this segment. The passenger space in the Chevy Trax is almost similar to the CX-3 but its cargo space is slightly better. On the other hand, the Toyota C-HR offers the least legroom in the rear row but in the front row, it is the best. The 2021 CX-3 gets a 7-inch touchscreen display stacked on the top of the dashboard. Therefore, it is a little difficult to use and takes time to get used to.

A 6-speaker stereo is standard and is the only source of sound. Connectivity features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, voice recognition, etc. are standard. The infotainment system on the Mazda CX-3 is undoubtedly one of the best in the segment. The Mazda Connect system by itself is very intuitive and easy to use as it quick to respond to your touches. The display is sharp and even visible under direct sunlight which is not the case with some of its rivals. The cabin highlights of the 2021 CX-3 are:

Design is something that Mazda has mastered a lot in recent days. The Mazda 3 hatchback won the world car design of the year which shows how good they are getting with design. The 2021 Mazda CX-3 is largely based on the Mazda 3 hatchback design and is a more pumped-up version to the hatchback. It looks apart from other traditional boxy SUVs. Like all the recent Mazdas, the 2021 CX-3 features the Koto design language. The grill is always the signature U-shape with four chrome bars on the inside. The chrome that borders it nicely runs into the headlights which are fully LED with auto-leveling and swiveling.

It also gets a rear spoiler that looks cool while the roof rails can be added as an add-on accessory. At the back, the 2021 CX-3 has that same sporty look as the front and a more aggressive-looking bumper. Rounding off the design are two stainless steel exhaust pipes. 

The Toyota C-HR weighs nearly 450 pounds more than the CX-3. This extra weight affects its performance and hence, its acceleration is slow. The Honda HR-V sits 1.2 inches above the CX-3. It can easily tackle rough roads or high bumps without any issue. At 100.6 inches, the Chevy Trax has the shortest wheelbase here which means a cramped in-cabin space. 2021 Mazda CX-3 vs 2021 Toyota C-HR

The initial price of the Toyota C-HR is slightly more than the CX-3. Although both houses the same engine, the CH-R's acceleration is the slowest in this competition. Also, its returns 2 MPG combined less than the CX-3 in terms of fuel economy. Moving to the interior, the C-HR fails to offer enough legroom in the rear row but is ahead in terms of cargo space. Furthermore, the C-HR missed the 'IIHS Top Safety Pick' award but is strong in reliability factor.

2021 Mazda CX-3 vs 2021 Honda HR-V

Both the Honda HR-V and the CX-3 are similarly priced but the former makes a bit less power than the CX-3. Therefore, the HR-V loses to the CX-3 in both performance tests. Also, its engine is less fuel-efficient. But the H-RV is widely praised for its spacious cabin while it also offers class-leading cargo capacity. The HR-V cannot compete with the CX-3 in terms of safety as the latter has the best safety ratings and more standard safety features. 

2021 Mazda CX-3 vs 2021 Chevrolet Trax

Priced at $21,400, the Chevrolet Trax is the only competition here that uses a turbocharger. However, that makes no effect as it makes 10 hp less than the CX-3 and as a result, slow performance numbers. It definitely affects its fuel economy and hence, it returns 3 MPG combined less than the CX-3. Both the SUVs provide similar levels of passenger space but the Trax is slightly forward by providing more cargo space. The Trax has low safety features and ratings when it comes to safety.

The 2021 Mazda CX-3 was a great addition to Mazda's SUV lineup and got popular within no time. Most of its success has been because of its design, driving dynamics, and lots of features which proved to be a great deal to a lot of customers. It has its downsides though as it does not offer the best interior space especially for the rear passengers who will feel a lot cramped. But the CX-3 is a driver's delight in the way it drives and puts a smile on your face every time you drive it.
