About 2021 Mclaren GT

4.0

Overall Rating

The Mclaren GT slots between Mclaren’s Sports series and Super series. The Mclaren GT is Woking’s say at how a Grand Tourer can be. The GT goes up against the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera and the Bentley Continental GT. Here’s our take on the 2021 Mclaren GT that is soon going to be on sale in the market.

The 2021 McLaren GT rolls into the new model year without any changes over the 2020 model. The GT marks McLaren's stunning entry into the Grand tourer segment. It has everything you expect of a Mclaren, be it the looks, the drama, or the performance. The GT distinguishes itself from other McLaren cars by focusing more on luxury rather than outright performance.

The 2021 McLaren GT's price starts from $210,000 MSRP. This is excluding the $3,195 destination charges the GT invites. For leasing consider the 2021 McLaren GT to cost you around $1,899 per month, for 36 months, with a $20,000 down payment and a $1,450 acquisition fee.

As of now, the Mclaren GT is available only in a single trim, so our advice would be if you are looking for a fast and comfortable ride, then go for it.

Mclaren's new GT is competitively priced against its rivals. With an asking price of $210,000 after all, you're buying a Mclaren. The Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, for instance, goes for a huge $300k ($309,995 to be exact) and the Bentley Continental GT will set you back at $202,500. Bear in mind that a Fully-loaded Mclaren GT could go about $300,000+, be careful while speccing it.

2021 Mclaren GT Review

Pros

  • Brilliant performance
  • Spacious cabin
  • Stunning looks
  • Practical cargo space

Cons

  • Ingress and egress can be difficult for some
  • Not as practical as some of its competitors

The Mclaren GT slots between Mclaren’s Sports series and Super series. The Mclaren GT is Woking’s say at how a Grand Tourer can be. The GT goes up against the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera and the Bentley Continental GT. Here’s our take on the 2021 Mclaren GT that is soon going to be on sale in the market.

Overview

The 2021 McLaren GT rolls into the new model year without any changes over the 2020 model. The GT marks McLaren's stunning entry into the Grand tourer segment. It has everything you expect of a Mclaren, be it the looks, the drama, or the performance. Pricing and Features
6.0/10

The Mclaren GT, as part of being a supercar, is offered in a standard guise. Rest is up to the customers to get their favorite touches done to it. Anything can be had on the GT, but with a price. The 2021 Mclaren GT is priced at $210,000 MSRP. This is excluding a $3,195 destination charges the GT invites.

The exterior of the GT features LED headlights with auto-leveling and a glazed rear tailgate also comes with rain-sensing wipers, dihedral doors, and heated door mirrors with dipping reverse. The interior of the GT gets manually adjustable leather sport seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, as well as a seven-inch touchscreen display with Bluetooth, FM radio, and so on.

Engine and Performance
9.9/10

"As you'd expect from a vehicle wearing the McLaren nameplate, the GT counts swift acceleration among its strengths." - Car and Driver

Mclaren's Grand Tourer is almost as fast and similar to every other sports car on the road. The 2021 Mclaren GT gets a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine that cranks out 612 hp and a peak torque of 465 lb-ft. The engine is mated to a 7-speed Dual-clutch transmission, putting down the power through the rear wheels.

The Mclaren GT is steady in the traffic but when you switch into sports mode, that’s when you experience true sport’s car feeling. The peak outputs are lower but responsiveness and low-rev performance have been improved significantly. Unlike other grand tourers, the GT gets a mid-mounted engine that optimizes its weight distribution and helps it go fast and flat through the corners.

Just like all the other cars wearing a Mclaren badge, the 2021 GT exhibits impeccable acceleration performance. The 2021 Mclaren GT can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds, and flat out, has a top speed of 203 mph. The GT also gets launch control and other features that improve its acceleration from a standpoint and can help it clock the quarter-mile lap in 10.7 seconds.

Speaking of the competition, the Mclaren GT takes the crown in terms of sheer power but is also the most expensive offering in this comparison. The 2021 Bentley Continental GT's 4.0L twin-turbo V8 slots in the second spot with 542 hp and 568 lb-ft of torque. However, unlike other rivals, the Bentley gets a standard AWD drivetrain. The Aston Martin DB11's 503 hp 4.0L twin-turbo V8 is the least powerful in this comparison. However, the DB11's top speed beats that of the other two.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

The Mclaren GT’s ability to go over 200 mph is obvious as with any other car in its segment, the mileage is on the lower side of things, but its lightweight body design compensates to some extent. The 2021 Mclaren GT returns city/highway/combined mpg of 15/22/18, which is decent for a car of such stature.  The Mclaren GT has a 19-gallon fuel tank, which should give it a maximum range of around 386 miles.

The Mclaren GT's mpg figures are quite competitive and at par with the segment standard. However, it's the Aston Martin DB11 leading the way with 20 mpg combined. The DB11 also gets the biggest fuel tank in this class, lending it the best range figures. The Bentley Continental GT's efficiency is at par with the GT, but its bigger fuel tank lends it better range.

"The cabin trim is lovely, and customisable in lots of materials and beautiful stitch patterns. The switchgear is all metal, and everything feels expensive and is unique to McLaren."  -TopGear

The Mclaren is known to build more performance-oriented cars than comfort but the 2021 Grand tourer should offer fairly well-cushioned comfortable carbon-fiber seats. When you step inside the interior of the 2021 Mclaren GT you'll notice that it is more spacious and is designed in a way that you get more light inside the cabin area. It makes the Mclaren feel a bit more in line with competitors such as the Continental GT. A tinted glass roof opens up the cabin nicely for more light and at the front Mclaren offers excellent visibility.

The rear carbon fiber hood adds an even greater sense of space, and no part of the car is subjected to fakery, each part has its own role to play. It's clear from the outset that the Grand Tourer is able to carry more than its more performance-minded siblings. The combination of carbon fiber and leather is well done. Mclaren has outclassed itself with this interior.

Mclaren is not known for offering loads of trunk space in the rear, in fact, it has always lacked when it comes to cargo space, but this new Grand Tourer comes with a fair amount of space. As with most mid-engine cars, the 2021 McLaren GT gets a rear trunk offering 14.8 cubic feet of storage. There is also a front trunk that's large enough for two mid-size bags. The 2021 Mclaren GT offers a combined cargo space of 20.1 cubic feet. The rear upper structure of the Grand Tourer has a carbon fiber design that creates more space and small items can be stored in a shallow center console storage tray or glove compartment.

The 2021 Mclaren GT's infotainment system is inspired by jets. No wonder the display screen is fitted in a more narrow vertical. This seven-inch touchscreen display offers high-quality images and smooth transitions almost like a smartphone, but interacting with it isn’t easy when driving.

In the older version, it had various features which included such as Bluetooth streaming, a satellite navigation system, and satellite FM and radio. The Mclaren GT comes with four speakers as standard, which you can upgrade to a 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system. Some of the eminent interior and infotainment features of the 2021 Mclaren GT are:

  • Cruise Control

"McLaren’s intention was to provide better aerodynamic efficiency for the car than its other series models have, as well as a more elegant, less aggressive look." - AutoCar

What sets the Mclaren GT apart from its competitors and siblings is its integrated tailgate into the boot of the car, the exhaust is a bit lower compared to its other siblings each and every vent on the Mclaren GT has some purpose to it. The vehicle comes with the rear 21 inch tires (the biggest of all Mclaren’s) and 20-inch tires at the front. The GT is 4.7 meters long, it is quite a unique and elegant design and it also helps the GT to decrease its drag coefficient and increase its cargo capacity.

The GT even has several air intakes at the front and rear for the engine and brake assembly and also helps the GT in aerodynamics. Upfront, the GT has LED headlights, the ever-stylish dihedral doors, and the rear is finished off by two exhaust tips emanating from the diffuser which isn’t fake like many. Adding to this is its overall body is made of carbon fiber, which enables the car to be controlled effectively, and sublime handling experience overall. Mclaren offers up to 30 different paint colors, and with only silver being offered in the standard category.

Safety
8.0/10

The all-new GT has not been crash-tested yet, so official safety ratings are unfortunately not available at present, all we can do is assume is that Mclaren Grand Tourer is well built and they put all the effort in making the car as safe and solid as possible when you consider their experience in the motorsport industry. But it does come with safety features such as advanced traction control and stability control, Impact-resistant carbon fiber shells, with all this in mind it’s safe to say that the Grand Tourer is as safe as its competitors.

The new Mclaren Grand Tourer sadly doesn’t come with advanced driver assistance features like lane keep assist and rear cross-traffic control and even lacks a blind-spot system. As far as Safety is concerned, It comes with ABS brakes, all-new sport-tuned electronics stability, and traction system, which will take a while to get used to. Some of the essential safety features are:

  • 4-Wheel ABS
  • Engine Immobilizer
  • Stability Control
  • Emergency Braking Assist
  • Adaptive Headlights
  • Remote Anti-Theft Alarm System
  • Front And Rear Ventilated Disc Brakes
  • 2 Front Headrests
  • Dusk Sensing Headlamps
  • LED Headlamp
  • Auto Delay Off Headlamps
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring
  • Traction Control

Competition
6.0/10

2021 Mclaren GT Vs Aston Martin DB11

Aston Martin is known for its beautiful design with speed and luxury the DBS DB11 is a piece of art in itself. It is probably the best-looking car when you compare it with its competitors. Aston Martin DB11 with its 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine has the best top speed among its competitors. When it comes to the interior the DB11 beats the Mclaren Grand Tourer with its all-leather upholstery, and when it comes to infotainment the Aston Martin’s tie-up with Mercedes has done good for them, it is way better than the Mclaren's infotainment system.

2021 Mclaren GT Vs Bentley Continental GT

When it comes to building the best Grand Tourer there isn’t anyone else that can compete with Bentley. Bentley's well-built interior and more torque on offer give a tough competition to Mclaren. The Bentley even offers endless customization. It is the heaviest here weighing up to a massive 5060Ibs but manages to move around the weight efficiently, sort-of that is. It is the cheapest amongst its competitors, but the Continental doesn't offer the drama the Mclaren has with its butterfly doors and the low stance. The choice really comes down to personal preference.

Final Verdict

The Mclaren GT is a seriously good sports tourer that can be comfortable for a drive to the office or around the track. Whichever scenario it may be, the GT outperforms its competition. If you have the means to afford a $200,000 car, we suggest you go ahead and spend some on the 2021 Mclaren GT. Not only does it get you a performance bargain you get a Grand tourer that can help along the weekend trips comfortably.
