This unit pumps out 166 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque which is clearly underpowered for a car that retails at 25 grand. The GT trim is the "powerful" sibling and gets a 3.0L V6 that churns out 224 hp and 215 lb-ft of torque. Each engine has a different transmission unit as well. While the I-4 gets a CVT, the V6 comes mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Furthermore, the standard drivetrain is an RWD while AWD can be picked up for $2,000 extra.
The GT trim comes with AWD as standard which seems like a good choice for the $33,745 it demands. The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport and PHEV share a 2.0L I-4 powertrain. The Outlander PHEV adds a hybrid unit and comes with a single-speed direct-drive transmission. The Sport comes with a CVT transmission as standard. Irrespective of whichever model of the 2021 Outlander you pick, the driving dynamics remain pretty much similar. The engine feels like it's overwhelmed and the steering wheel feels lifeless and muted at all times.

But the Plug-in hybrid model provides seating options for just 5 passengers due to the addition of a battery pack. The Outlander offers decent space at the front, and the second row is comfy, but the third row and cargo space of 10.3 cu-ft don’t fit the bill. It should be much more spacious. The leather-fitted tilt-steering wheel has a digital panel, including voice control. Inside the cabin, carbon fabric is present on the dashboard along with doors to give a sleek look.

Among the competition, the Mitsubishi Outlander offers the maximum seating capacity which causes the cargo-space to be the least. The Honda CR-V takes the cake with the most interior space and the biggest trunk in the back. The Mazda CX-5 is the most compactly built while the Forester is actually spacious. In terms of keeping you entertained, the brand offers two different systems. The first is a 7-inch screen that is in place in the base ES trim. From the SE trim itself, this is upgraded to an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation.
This system is responsive and fairly well balanced but feels dated for today's use. You get features like AM/FM stereo, Bluetooth, and SiriusXM from the SE trim onwards. Navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are all features that are reserved for the top tier SEL and GT trims. The sound system is a 6-speaker sound system that is decent at best. Currently, the ride looks remarkable and domineering, but in an agreeable way. Riding high on 18-inch alloy wheels, it offers 8.5-inches of ground clearance as well. The front gets halogen headlamps flanked by LED DRLs as you move up the upper trims. The car’s side view is the finest with its large windows, chiseled lower C-section, sharp curves, and a floating roof effect. When viewed in terms of long-term reliability as well, the Honda CR-V is a better compact SUV than the Outlander in a holistic point of view.
The 2021 Mazda CX-5 has a more powerful engine and offers better performance than Outlander. The CX-5 delivers fun to drive ride experience and has a more upscale interior.
