The 2021 Nissan Sentra does not change any of the trims in its lineup from the 2020 model year. There are still 3 trims available for sale- S, SV, and SR. However, here is the kicker, the prices have been increased by $100 across the entire lineup. So the MSRP now starts from $19,410 for the S, $20,470 for the SV, and $21,750 for the top of the line SR trim. 

All of the trims have a bucketload of features to suffice for a value for money tag for every trim. The V-motion grille, 16-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels, touchscreen infotainment system, leather upholstery, and D-shaped steering wheel are all standard fitment. The new additions to the features list are Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an optional NissanConnect WiFi module for the SR trim.

In all the trims of the 2021 Nissan Sentra, springing for the SV trim would be the best bet. With an agreeable expansion of the budget by $1,105, the features added more than suffice for themselves. You get a better infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, wider screen and instrument cluster, better surround sound system, sunroof, and dual-zone climate control. So, if you look at it, it's a full-blown value for money package deal.

The 2021 Nissan Sentra comes with the same engine as its previous model year. One can spot a powerful naturally aspirated 2.0L engine inlined with four cylinders under its hood. The engine is capable of producing the same power and torque 149 hp and 145 lb-ft torque which seems decent enough for a no-brainer daily driver. The Sentra’s robust engine is coupled to Xtronic CVT transmission that puts the power to the wheels via the standard FWD drivetrain. For those wishing for an AWD in a 20 grand sedan, that is a dream that might never come true. 

While CVTs are known to dull down any car's performance, the 2021 Sentra manages to give a smooth driving experience. However, many might be missing on the beloved Sentra Nismo from the previous generation that came with a turbo engine. Though 2021 Sentra does not offer the Nismo model thus far, there are high chances that the brand will bring back the powerhouse for the 2022 model year. Until then, the 2021 Sentra manages to hold its own very amicably.

 The 2021 Nissan Sentra has the ability to sprint from 0-60 MPH in 9.2 seconds and can traverse the quarter-mile in 16.6 seconds. The top speed has been electronically limited to 120 mph, but some individual testers have even touched 130 mph. With 149 hp to boot for the 19 grand price tag, the brakes seem slightly unrefined. With the base S trim, the rear gets drum brakes that are upgraded to discs from SV trim onwards. With both the disc brakes in place, the 2021 Nissan Sentra can brake from 60-0 mph in a stopping distance of 122 feet.

The Toyota Corolla produces the highest power than other rivals with the same engine capacity as of Sentra and Elantra. The Volkswagen Jetta generates an impressive torque that kicks out every rival owing to its turbocharged engine and hence takes the top spot in the 0-60 mph run as well with an under-8 second time. The Hyundai Elantra has the least power and torque among the competition, yet manages to hold its own to an extent and procure the last spot on the podium in terms of acceleration. The 2021 Sentra is a slowpoke in all respects despite being more powerful than two of its rivals.

The generational change saw the Nissan Sentra adorning a bigger 2.0L I-4 engine from the 1.8L four-pot powertrain in the last generation. Though the engine capacity and power on tap have increased over the previous model, the MPG figures have actually improved. So you can bid the high fuel costs-adios! The 2021 Nissan Sentra offers 29 MPG in the city, 39 MPG on the highway, and 33 MPG combined. These figures are neither segment-leading nor mediocre. Like we said, decent.

The fuel tank capacity is on the slightly shorter side at 12.4 gallons. This smaller size can be blamed on the brand's obsession to increase the cargo space. That being said, after a full refueling stop, you can easily get an overall combined driving range of 409 miles which is more than enough for daily driving. If you are going to go cross-country on the highway, the range can actually touch the tune of 484 miles. For the 20 grand price tag, these figures are liveable but could have been better.

The Hyundai Elantra schools all the others in the segment about how to do stuff with its segment-leading MPG figures. The Toyota Corolla had retained the crown for several years of being the most fuel-efficient. But since the cat's out the bag about the Elantra's MPG figures, the Toyota Corolla settles for second place. The Nissan Sentra and the Volkswagen Jetta share their MPG figures. However, at a similar sticker price, the Jetta offers a bigger fuel tank to help its case for .

The 2021 Nissan Sentra gets minor interior revisions. The first change which catches every eye in the cabin is the ambient lighting, charcoal with a red accent, and the chrome trim which projects the black upholstery. Despite the economic price tag, the brand has tried to make things enticing. The D-shaped steering wheel is laden with buttons and controls various in-vehicular functions, driver display, and even the infotainment system. Depending on the trim, the upholstery changes from cloth to leather, to even PRIMA-Tex.

The highlight of the seating of the 2021 Sentra is Nissan’s signature “Zero Gravity” Chair. The front seats offer power adjustability and are bolstered perfectly to offer ample comfort. The sound system is a 4-speaker setup with the base trim and gets upgraded to a 6-speaker system in the upper trims. But if music is a priority, an 8-speaker Bose Premium Sound System is also available during the customization stage. The infotainment setup also packs most of the latest connectivity tech like Bluetooth, USB, and the newest welcome additions, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. For the SR trim, you can also pick up the NissanConnect WiFi module for a couple extra thousand bucks. The 2021 Nissan Sentra upgrades its exterior with an appearance similar to Maxima and Altima. The V-motion Grille and boomerang-shaped LED headlamps to accentuate the front fascia perfectly. 2021 Nissan Sentra Vs. 2021 Volkswagen Jetta

The 2021 Volkswagen Jetta is the German biggie in the lineup. It looks dominating despite its simplistic cues and is very competitively priced for a very similarly specced engine. On that note, despite being similar under the hood, the 2021 Jetta accelerates much better, packs a better interior, and offers similar MPG figures but with a bigger fuel tank. All of these help the case of Volkswagen quite easily. However, the Volkswagen Jetta does not offer the same kind of reliability and safety features as the 2021 Sentra and might cause you more troubles in ownership down the line. Hence, it boils down to brand preference since both have their own quirks and whims.

So, it is quite clear that for the same price range, the choice tends towards the 2021 Hyundai Elantra here.
