Overall Rating
Although when it was launched, the Model X lacked serious competition, today, it is opposed by some worthy competitors. The Audi e-Tron and the Jaguar I-Pace are some which dare oppose the Model X.
The 2021 Tesla Model X is a luxury electric SUV that boasts on-demand all-wheel drive, seats up to seven, gets a maximum of 360 miles of driving range, spirited handling, and swift acceleration. With a revised trim lineup and a few updates, the base price of the 2021 Model X starts at $83,190 for the Long Range while the new-for-2021 Model X Plaid costs $113,190. The 670 hp Model X Long Range claims 3.8 seconds 0 to 60 mph time while the tri-motor setup in 1,020 hp Plaid takes it to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds.
Developed from the Model S platform, it shares around 30 percent of the sedan's features. Despite 5,500 pounds weight, the 2021 Model X offers spirited handling compared even to other gasoline-powered SUVs. The new Model X stars among the electric rivals including Audi e-Tron and Jaguar I-Pace. For 2021, Tesla has updated the cabin of the Model X, adding a newly styled 'yoke' steering wheel and a bigger 17-inch infotainment system. The exterior styling also gets some minor changes. With the 2021 Model X, you also get free access to Tesla’s expansive Supercharger network. Read below to find out if the Tesla Model X is a good SUV for you?
Of both the trims, we recommend you to opt for the Performance trim. Sure, this trim costs nearly $20K costlier, while having most of the same features as the base trim, but the updated interiors and performance are enticing enough for us to recommend the performance trim.

The 2021 Model X will be offered in just two flavors this time. The lineup starts with the base Long Range model priced at $83,190. The other top-spec variant is the Model X Plaid costing $113,190. Both these models are fundamentally the same but what varies is the powertrain and performance.
While both the trims get AWD as standard, the Plaid variant uses a triple motor setup, unlike the base model's dual-motor unit. This pushes its power output to 1,020 hp. That translates to a 0-60 mph time of 2.5 seconds, making it the world's fastest-accelerating SUV.

The base Long Range trim of the Model X is its most value for money. It gets a dual-motor setup making 670 hp, which means a 0-60 mph run time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph, all of which are class-leading. It also has AWD as standard, and the estimated range of 360 miles is also a lot more than the 2021 Model X Plaid.

"If physics-defying performance and three rows of seating are two priorities in something that follows the SUV form, there are few ways you can do better, electric or not." - The Car Connection
The 2021 Model X Long Range models are powered by standard two electric motors (3 Phase, 4 Pole induction motors, with copper rotors and a 100-kWh lithium-ion battery) while the Plaid versions get a tri-motor setup, similar to the 2021 Model S Plaid. The Long Range Model X gets 670 horsepower and is a plenty fast. The 2021 Model X Plaid is capable of producing 1,020 horsepower.
The Model X, like the Model S before it, uses a direct drive transmission. Its AWD setup gives it great control and stability, both in a straight and in corners. That and the difference in power in comparison to rivals is obvious. The Audi e-Tron and the Jaguar I-Pace cannot compete with the Model X in performance.

The Model X has both strong acceleration and braking. But there's a difference even in the way the two trims perform. The base Long Range trim reaches 60 mph from a standstill in 3.8 seconds, while the new Plaid only takes 2.6 seconds. Both an improvement of 0.6 and 0.1 seconds respectively in comparison to last year.
Brakes are similarly impressive, despite weighing upwards of 5400 pounds, the Model X going at 60 mph, stops in just 109 feet. Both in acceleration and braking, the Model x outperforms its rivals. Even the top speed of 155 mph achieved by the base trim of the Model X is higher than the others in the class.

Both the dual and tri motor setup of the 2021 Tesla Model X offer not only impressive performance but also exceptional MPGe and range. The new performance-oriented Model X Plaid offers a claimed range of 340 miles in a single charge, and it is the lesser of the two. The dual-motor AWD setup of the Long Range model allows it to return a maximum claimed range of 360 miles.

"A stark and nearly buttonless interior design is classic Tesla. The Model X's unique windshield/glass roof runs seamlessly from the base of the hood up over the front-seat passengers for a nearly uninterrupted view of what's ahead and what's above." - Car And Driver
The interior of the Model X is based on the Model S. There are striking resemblances everywhere, more so with the 2021 redesign. A new infotainment setup and redesigned steering wheel make the 2021 Model X look a whole lot futuristic. Otherwise, the Model X comes as standard is a five-seater. Interior design and quality is slightly different depending upon which trim you choose. While the base Long Range trim gets wooden accents, the Plaid trim gets a carbon fiber interior.
Interior space is generous for first and second row. A seven-passenger configuration with a third row or a six-passenger configuration with two captain’s chairs can be opted, as per your need, shelling some extra penny. Aside from the panoramic windshield, Falcon Wing rear doors, and extra cargo capacity, the Tesla Model X SUV is identical to the Model S sedan.

Not only does the Model X offers more seating capacity, it has much more room than any of its competitors. It is the only vehicle in its class that can seat people in the third row.The advanced technology of Tesla is immediately highlighted a you enter the Model X. Firstly, the driver's door opens automatically and can be shut similarly. The rear doors opens like a gulwing doors and provide easy access to rear seats. However, these act as contraints in areas with low ceilings.
The technology of Tesla is also profound and more than compliant with the need of its audience. The 2021 Model X features a massive 17-inch touchscreen display, which is now mounted landscape-style on the dashboard. Tesla has kept the user experience at prime importance with easy to use and understand menu controls. The touch is highly responsive and quick to react. Some of the highlights of 2021 Tesla Model X’s infotainment system are as follows

"There is one massive pane of curved glass that serves as the windshield and the panoramic roof on the Model X. It really makes the cabin feel open, but the roof also protects against the ultraviolet and infrared light." - KBB
All Tesla cars look and feel way ahead of their time, for example, the Tesla Cybertruck. Although, the Model X is not as unconventional-looking. Its exterior design is somewhat derived from the Model S, which is quite obvious. Only, the Model X has dimensions that are bigger all-around, even when compared with conventional SUVs of its class.
To stand apart, Tesla Model X has no front-grille, a tear-drop shape, a top-rolling wind-shield that merges with the panoramic glass sunroof, and falcon-wing rear doors. And this time, there are cleaner lines on the bodywork complemented by dechromed accents. Flaunting one in your neighborhood will surely fetch you the coolest tag.

The amazing array of sensors and masterful autonomous features lets you feel like a passenger at times even when you are in the driver’s seat. The 2020 Model X has also received one of the best possible ratings in safety and crash tests. The Autonomous Autopilot enables your car to accelerate, brake, and steer on its own.
It will monitor traffic and road conditions constantly and will put the people in the car out of harm's way. It is also capable of seamlessly following navigation taking into account the various interchanges and lane changes along the way. Sturdy construction and top-of-the-line safety features make the Model X very attractive to buyers concerned about safety even though the 2021 version has not yet been crash-tested.

The 2021 E-Tron SUV and Sportback brings the comfort, luxury, and features of Audi's other conventional premium models, but with an electric twist. At the same time, the 2021 Tesla Model X can render gasoline-powered SUVs obsolete.
Certainly, Model X is a pricier option than E-Tron, it offers extraordinary performance and a class-leading range. However, Audi offers more interior space than the Tesla, the Model X puts the E-Tron behind in most categories.
The comparison is between the least expensive I Pace vs the most expensive Model X in the class. The I-Pace is a decent vehicle, but cannot justify either its performance or its price in front of the Model X.
It's true the Model X comes at a rather extravagant price premium, however, it justifies that price with its abundant features and monstrous performance. The 2021 Jaguar I-Pace falls behind there.
The 2021 Tesla Model X holds a narrow lead over less well-packaged rivals from Audi, Jaguar, and Mercedes. Yes, the 2021 Model X's rivals have better build quality, but Tesla is super fast, big, comfortable, and technologically advanced. It’s a fun and engaging family car with ample room for everyone. Moreover, Tesla's superior charging network removes hassle and frustration from the switch to electricity. It has superb performance, great range, and spacious interiors, all for a pretty respectable price.
With this significant redesign for the 2021 or 2022 model year (Tesla doesn't follow the model years as strictly as other car brands), the Model X is well-primed to take on electric SUV rivals newcomers including the Rivian and Lucid.
