The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan gets a 2.0-liter turbocharged Inline-4 engine which is capable of producing 184 hp power and 221 lb-ft torque. Transmission duties are performed by an 8-speed Automatic transmission that comes with a Tip -Tronic functionality. FWD drivetrain is standard while the AWD system is optional except for the top-of-the-line SEL Premium R-Line trim which gets Volkswagen's 4Motion AWD system as standard.

The handling of the Tiguan feels like a minivan than a crossover but when it comes to the ride quality, the Tiguan doesn't hesitate to offer a comfortable ride. However, the Tiguan isn't engaging to drive as its competitors as its steering feels disconnected. Around the corners, the SUV feels planted but there is a lot of body roll which takes away the comfort of the ride. 

The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 8.2 seconds while taking almost 17 seconds to clock the quarter of a mile lap. The SUV has 4-wheel disc brakes with a 4-Wheel ABS. These when combined with 13.4-inch front brake rotors and an 11.8-inch rear brake rotor assists the vehicle to break off from 60 mph in 124 ft.

On a comparative analysis of the rivals, we can see that the Honda CR-V offers the most power on tap among the group but the Volkswagen Tiguan scores in torque. The Mazda CX-5 bests the Tiguan in the quarter-mile test whereas the Subaru Forester is the slowest sprinter in this competition.

Rivals are more efficient than the 2021 Tiguan- The Car Connection

The 2.0L turbo-four engine in the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan is responsive enough, but not as frugal enough. The  MPG figures estimated by the EPA show that the Tiguan has the ability to go 22 MPG around the city, 29 MPG on the highway, and 25 MPG for combined driving.

The Tiguan's MPG figures are a bit meek as compared to other rivals, but it compensates by offering a fuel tank capacity of 15.9-gallon. With a filled fuel tank,  the 2021 Tiguan can travel around 366 miles in the city, 461 miles on the highway, and 431 miles for combined driving situations.

The Honda CR-V offers the best city and highway fuel estimates in this segment. The Mazda CX-5 is right behind it with 28 MPG combined mileage. Despite housing a 16.6-gallon fuel tank, the Subaru Forester offers only 29 MPG combined. Meanwhile, the Tiguan rests in the last place.

The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan can seat up to seven individuals in FWD models while AWD models reduce it to five. However, AWD models do get an option of the available third row. Except for the base S trim, leather upholstery is available throughout the lineup. The front seats offer good bolstering and support while providing adequate cushioning. The steering wheel feels firm and has multiple controls for audio and climate settings. 

Even sitting in an upright position, there is an adequate head and legroom available for adults. Use the Tiguan's third row for children's and only when necessity demands it. The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan offers a dedicated cargo capacity of 12 cu-ft. With the third-row folded, the Tiguan offers 33 cu-ft. of storage. A maximum of 65.7 cu-ft. can be obtained by folding the second row as well. 

The Honda CR-V offers 27.2 cu-ft. more than the Tiguan, with all the seats upright. It is followed by the Subaru Forester and the Mazda CX-5. But the Taigun is a 7-seater SUV, unlike its rivals. The 2021 Tiguan offers a standard 8-inch display except for the base S trim which comes with a 6-inch screen. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard offerings in the MIB3 infotainment system. The menus are arranged logically and it is very easy to use. The knobs are placed below the screen for climate controls. The touchscreen is fluidic in operation.
