At $57,400, the A-Spec brings along expected sporty yet comfortable features such as heated and ventilated 12-way power-adjustable front seats, Alcantara and Milano leather upholstery, 16-speaker ELS sound system, ambient lighting, and a sporty exterior that provides the necessary look on a premium SUV like the MDX.
"Given the MDX's sportier character, we'd like quicker responses from the 10-speed's paddles on the steering wheel." - CarandDriver
The 2022 Acura MDX is powered by a proven 3.5L V6 engine that makes 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. While the output has not changed, Acura has switched things up in the transmission by switching from a 9-speed automatic to a 10-speed automatic for 2022. The base and the technology package get an FWD drivetrain with the optional SH-AWD system or an additional $2,000, whereas the A-Spec and Advance package comes with SH-AWD as standard.
Another big change for this year is the addition of the double-wishbone suspension in the front which is a first for the moniker in all its years, which results in sharper handling from the previous model. The brakes also have been upgraded with the rotors are 0.07-inches thicker, and 1.1-inch larger than the 2020 MDX, which helps stop from 60-0 MPH in just 118 feet. With an all-new integrated dynamics system, it also gets new drive modes - Snow, Comfort, Normal, Sport, and the customizable Individual mode.
The new generation has also brought a new underpinning platform that is lighter, dynamic, and honed for performance. Owing to this change, the 2022 Acura MDX can sprint from 0-60 mph in just 6.4 seconds. The quarter-mile takes slightly longer at 15.1 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 120 MPH. It has a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds with an FWD drivetrain and this increases to $5,000 when equipped with SH-AWD drivetrain.

These luxury SUVs handle similar, but the compliant ride quality from Lexus is the best in this lot. The Acura MDX serves as the best value for money option since it offers a great balance between power, acceleration, and cost. The Lexus RX 350L is the only option that makes the same amount of power but is slower in performance. The Audi Q7 is the most underpowered and the costliest option but has plenty of tech and plush ride quality.
Despite the remodel, the MPG figures of the 2022 Acura MDX have managed to remain the same as the predecessor's MPG ratings. With the FWD drivetrain, you get 19 MPG in the city, 26 MPG on the highway, and 22 MPG combined. Put down 2 grand extra to retrofit the SH-AWD drivetrain, and the MPG figures drop to 25 MPG on the highway, and 21 MPG combined.
Fuel cost on the 2022 Acura MDX with a yearly running of 15,000 miles come around $2,570/year which are slightly higher than its rivals. The 2022 MDX has a gas tank size of 18.5-gallon that translates into a combined driving range of 407 miles. The brand-new Acura MDX Type S also gets a similar tank capacity which converts into a combined range of 389 miles with its 21 MPG combined average.

The Volvo XC90 goes for the win with its excellent MPG figures. The RX 350L also manages to stack up quite decently with the best highway fuel economy in the lineup. The Audi Q7 is overall a gas guzzler and covers that up by offering the biggest fuel tank of the lot. The Acura MDX has a slightly better economy than the Q7 but both the cars output the same mileage in the city at 19 MPG.

Compared to the competition the Volvo XC90 has the most ground clearance of 8.8-inches and is also the widest of 79.1-inches. Some notable exterior features of the 2022 Acura MDX are:
The 2022 Acura MDX comes loaded with state-of-the-art safety features and flaunts the next generation of Acura's Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) Body Structure that boasts of better rigidity than before. Because of the new improved construction, the 2022 Acura MDX scored the top rating of 'Good' on the IIHS tests and received the Top Safety Pick+ award.
Furthermore, the 2022 MDX has been given an overall 5-star safety rating by the NHTSA. Acura does care about the safety of its passengers, and hence, equips the MDX with plenty of safety features as standard. Some of the 2022 Acura MDX’s latest addition to the safety features are listed below:
Both the 2022 Volvo XC90 and the 2022 Acura MDX are top luxury SUVs that come at affordable prices, are slightly easier to maintain, and have an appealing array of standard features and creature comforts. The XC90 is an older car compared to the more modern and fresh MDX. It is a tech powerhouse, and also comes with a hybrid version for people who want more efficiency with their luxury. The MDX on the other hand makes more power, has better acceleration, and has a higher tow rating. However, the XC90 is a better choice here due to its economy, balanced performance, and safety.
Both the MDX and the Audi Q7 come with a sporty version of the luxury SUVs, tons of advanced technology, and offer seating for up to seven passengers, with a lot of creature comforts and safety features. The 2022 Audi Q7 adds more standard features to its 2022 avatar. The Q7 is more expensive, comes with standard AWD, has optional engines, better towing capacity, and a more comfortable interior. The MDX's strong points include its more affordable pricing, strong resale value, better reliability, comfortable ride quality, and a refined 10-speed transmission. Choosing between them is more on personal brand preference and requirement.
Both the 2022 Lexus RX 350L and the 2022 Acura MDX offer a one-of-a-kind experience with what they have to offer. The RX is cheaper than the MDX, offers better fuel economy, and has a more comfortable and spacious interior against the MDX's compact interior dimensions. The MDX on the other hand has faster performance runtimes, a better-built interior with more usable creature comforts, a large cargo capacity, is a bigger car than the Lexus, and more standard safety features. All this makes the MDX surely worth the extra money, and hence is the better car than the Lexus RX350.
At $47,200, the 2022 Acura MDX tries to justify the increase in its price in every way on the luxury front. The car now gets more standard features, has more creature comforts on offer, and the interior sees a major revamp in terms of materials used and fit and finish levels. However, as it is an all-new model it is a good option but the proven Audi Q7 and Volvo XC40 are a more luxurious offering.
