Overall Rating
The 2022 Acura TLX starts at an MSRP of $37,700 and carries over unchanged from its outgoing 2021 model. Available at Acura dealerships now, the 2022 TLX is available in its previously available four regular trim levels, a handsome suite of features on board, available AWD, and a sporty Type S.
Following its thorough second-gen update in 2021, the 2022 Acura TLX carries over with no single change. Not needed though, since the revised second-gen Acura TLX offers a compelling package in its segment. The revised TLX gets a sleek and sharper exterior design, a peppy 2.0-liter turbo engine, alongside ample practicality and efficiency.
Available at a nearby Acura dealer near you now, the 2022 Acura TLX starts at an MSRP of $37,700, excluding the $1,045 destination charge. With its recent overhaul, this popular-selling premium midsize sedan offers much better value than its predecessors. Thanks to its updated driving manners and updated suite of tech and safety features. However, in its contested segment, it does face good heat from the likes of Honda Accord, Lexus ES 350, and Genesis G70.
We recommend going for the 2022 Acura TLX with the A-Spec Package paired with the optional SH-AWD. At an MSRP of $46,650, the TLX A-Spec offers a good composition of available features with the likes of ventilated front seats, upgraded audio, sporty exterior styling, faux-suede seats, and more. The optional SH-AWD system only furthers its driving fun with some weather-proofing.

"Acura offers a small lineup for the TLX that makes choosing a car very simple." - The Car Connection
As with its outgoing 2021 model, the 2022 Acura TLX is available in four different trims to choose from. The range starts with the Base, Technology, A-Spec, and Advance trim. MSRP for the Base trim starts at $37,700 and goes all the way up to $48,700 for the loaded "Advance Package". All the trims get a sole 2.0-liter turbo pot and an FWD drivetrain. Acura SH-AWD is also optionally available with all the trims and adds $2,000 to the MSRP.
Spirited driver's though would prefer the 2022 Acura TLX Type S which is reviewed separately. The sportier TLX Type S comes with a larger 3.0-liter turbo V6 engine and a significant performance upgrade. For city commuters, the 2022 TLX's regular lineup offers a good all-around package with its extensive suite of creature comforts and safety features. With the "Base" model, you also get some pretty useful "standalone options" to pick from.

"To Acura’s credit, it didn’t put an uninspiring engine in the most affordable 2022 TLX to make buyers spend extra for the V6-powered Type S. The turbocharged 4-cylinder unit generates 272 horsepower, more than sufficient muscle for everyday work as well as accelerating out of tight corners".- Kelley Blue Book
All 2022 Acra TLX models come powered by a 2.0-liter turbo inline-4 motor that cranks out 272 hp 280 lb-ft of torque. This is the same engine that also powers the likes of Acura RDX as well as the Honda Accord. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 10-speed automatic transmission that comes standard with an FWD drivetrain. Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) is optional with all trims at an extra $2,000. A 355 hp 3.0-liter turbo V6 with AWD is standard on the TLX Type S model and is not an option on the other trims. Also, Type S is the only TLX with a standard AWD.
The TLX's standard 2.0-liter pot is on par with the power output of its segment and performs as well as expected. Out in the city, the engine feels refined and energetic with instantaneous power delivery, especially at low-speed city traffic. Quick and hiccup-free transmission shifts complement the engine's character really well bringing up the 0-60 MPH run in 5.9 seconds. It's not as quick as a Honda Accord though but is more than acceptable for this class. Even at quick highway passing, the engine feels aptly powered and pulls neatly through the mid-rpm range with a steady flow of torque.

On the move, the 2022 Acura TLX is a disciplined handler. The second-gen TLX's structural changes have proved right in terms of handling and steering. Despite being nose-heavy, the TLX's steering is sharp and quick with immense feedback. The SH-AWD system directs 70% of the power to the rear, and is a must, as it improves the overall handling with the new chassis. The double-wishbone suspension with adaptive dampers and the multi-link setup at the rear provide a supple and comfortable ride quality over most surfaces. With Acura's innovative "Agile Handling Assist", even FWD models tackle sharp bends with great confidence.

"Considering its power, the 2022 Acura TLX offers decent fuel economy".- The Car Connection
Talking fuel economy, the second-gen 2022 Acura TLX delivers on its expectation. Along with its agile driving dynamics, a 2022 Acura TLX happily returns a 25 MPG combined fuel economy which is again, its class average. Thankfully, the TLX tops its efficiency with a larg15.9-gallon fuel tank which translates into a very healthy 398 miles of combined driving range. What else could one seek for in a premium midsize sedan which is also athletic to drive?

Among the segment rivals, it's all a familiar affair. While the Honda and Lexus contestants shine bright with their better 26 MPG combined economy, the Genesis on the other hand sits at the bottom with its 24 MPG output. Overall though, it's mostly a familiar affair with all the cars churning identical economy figures as well as driving range. A fuel economy difference of 1 or 2 MPG is not going to severely affect a buying decision either.

"Comfortable front seats and quality materials make a favorable first impression. However, the TLX's touchpad infotainment system interface leaves something to be desired". - Edmunds
The interior of the 2022 Acura TLX is a great mix of sportiness with luxury. The layout is logical with a straightforward arrangement of controls and knobs alongside plentiful storage options. The highlights include a rotary-type drive mode selector and the analog gauges within the instrument cluster that offers a lot of useful information. As standard, you get faux leather upholstery with power adjustability and heating for the front seats. Higher trims add leather upholstery, synthetic suede leather inserts, and contrast stitching.
The TLX can seat five passengers, but not in comfort. While front passengers are greeted with ample headroom and legroom besides power-adjustability, the rear seat of the TLX is not a very comfortable place to be in. Courtesy of the TLX's cramped rear legroom and headroom that can make things complicated for taller passengers. Thankfully, the 2022 Acura TLX opens up a 14.3 cu-ft of cargo space which is not as good as the Accord's 16.7 cu-ft but significantly better than the Genesis G70 and Lexus ES 350.

For infotainment, the 2022 Acura TLX gets a floating 10.2-inch touchscreen sitting atop the dash. The system comes standard with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, 10-speaker audio, and Acura Connected services. The higher models also unlock navigation, a wireless charging pad, 17-speaker premium sound audio, and a 10.5-inch head-up display.
The infotainment screen is sharp and crisp with good visibility and clean responses. Responses to user inputs are quick and smooth while navigating through different menus is a hassle-free task. However, Acura has also placed a touchpad controller in the new second-gen TLX which can be a bit frustrating to use in 2022, especially in busy city traffic.

"The new TLX’s solid chassis, attractive styling and value pricing make it a worthwhile consideration in the highly competitive entry-luxury sedan category"- Forbes.
The second-gen Acura TLX has more usage of lightweight material for enhanced driving with better aerodynamics. After a complete makeover of the exterior for its 2021 model year, the Acura TLX gets sharp and sleek headlights, a streamlined front, a diamond-shaped front grille, and razor-sleek side looks. Thanks to the long hood and short deck profile, the car looks more of a rear-drive sedan than an FWD. At the rear, it gets wide taillights with a high trunk lid spoiler. The dual exhaust setup is huge and wide, and suits the overall sporty stance well. New color and wheel options are expected for the 2022 model.
Striking features like a diamond-cut front grille, massive 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, sharper Jewel Eye LED headlights, and new Phantom Violet Pearl color available with the Technology Package show up the sporty vibes of the car. The A-Spec package takes things forward, by adding a sporty exterior styling with the 19-inch shark grey wheels, piano black spoiler, LED foglights, and a gloss black pentagon grille. Dimensionally, the car weighs 3,709 lbs, has a length of 194.6 inches supported with a wheelbase of 113 inches.

Dynamic stability of the car may see an improvement with better weight distribution and high agility while cornering, as these were some limitations on the 2021 model. The Acura TLX is almost as long as the Lexus ES but is the widest as well as the heaviest among the pack here. While the Accord is the tallest among the lot, it benefits from a comparatively lighter body at 3.428 lbs. Overall, all the cars have their very distinct persona but the Acura TLX does stand out with its sporty and edgy character in a league of elegant machines.

The 2022 Acura TLX has not been rated yet, but with no changes, the 2021 model's score's do apply. The 2021 model saw some structural changes, which translated into better safety ratings and a more protective shell overall. A total of 64% of the car's structure is made from high-strength steel and aluminum, and unlike the first generation, the platform is not shared with the Honda Accord.
The 2021 model received an overall rating of 5-stars from the NHTSA, and also was a 'Top Safety Pick+' award recipient from the IIHS. The IIHS also gave it the score of 'Good' in most tests. The TLX comes equipped with a long list of active and passive safety features, which are standard across all models.

Both the Accord and the TLX are siblings, but these are not head-to-head competitors like some other sibling rivalry. The Accord draws the line at being the more practical car with its large interior and cargo space. On the other hand, the TLX has the upper hand in terms of performance, refinement, and it's also the more luxurious car. Between these two, we stick to the TLX despite its higher price tag.
Unlike the sporty attributes of the Acura TLX, the Lexus ES 350 is a comfortable and elegant midsize sedan. In comparison, the Lexus has a more spacious and inviting cabin than the Acura and is also more comfortable. The ES 350 also offers a better economy and practicality here. The TLX though scores point with its athletic handling, sharper exterior design and a lower price tag.
The 2022 Acura TLX with its starting price of $39,000 offers great value against its rivals. It provides the best-in-class amenities and the latest infotainment system. There are four trim levels with both FWD and AWD configurations available to choose from. Things get better when climbing up the ladder with more sophistication, better detailing, and a thunderous powerhouse under the hood. However, the thirsty engine, and the slow performance against the rivals are some points where we hope the 2022 model improves upon.
