Which trim should you buy?
The Audi TT RS is a standalone trim, so in terms of recommendations, we suggest getting your TT RS with the Sport Exhaust which comes with black tips. This will add a strong character to your TT RS.
The 2022 Audi TT RS comes with a stronger engine compared to the lower models. The RS is thrust by a 2.5L turbo five-cylinder mill that offers a creamy and engaging ride. The five-cylinder engine being turbocharged offers a hefty amount of power and torque. The engine manages to put out 394 ponies of power and 354 lb-ft of torque.
The higher power and torque help it with good performance and impressive acceleration. The RS can accelerate from 0-60 MPH at just 3.6 seconds and cover a quarter-mile by 12.2 seconds. Power churned by the engine gets evenly distributed on all the wheels via the Quattro AWD system.
The engine is smooth and lag-free. Once you press the gas pedal, power runs through the exhaust within a fraction of seconds and makes the car catch a thrilling speed effortlessly. The gearbox is one of the smoothest we have seen so far and downshifts are not only easier but fun to do.
The gearbox is very responsive and does a good job of parting the power in seven ways. The Quattro AWD is famous all across the globe for its capability, and customarily it exhibits its wonders on the RS. The Quattro AWD system provides an excellent grip on the tracks. Further, if you want to take the RS on rougher surfaces, it will work great too because of the impressive traction.

The BMW M2 Competition comes at the most affordable price. Its twin-turbo engine offers more than 400 horsepower and torque which happens to be the highest among all. But, it trails in performance considering the hefty power and torque offered. Oppositely, the Audi TT RS is the most expensive and offers not only an AWD drivetrain but also manages to acquire flying colors in the performance section.
The Audi TT gets its name from the popular racing occasion Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy). Being named after the legendary moto-sport tradition, the TT RS has justified its name well. The cabin inside may be boring for people who seek a premium and deluxe feeling. However, the cabin is biasedly driver-focused. Though it misses out on a multimedia screen, rear infotainment system, and many other modern features, we love how the RS feels and we acknowledge its distinct nature.
Once you’re seated inside, the front sport bucket seats are well placed. The seats offer excellent visibility of the front and rear. The steering wheel feels well-weighted and smooth. The feedback is excellent. The steering feels very responsive and provides hassle-free handling. The power churned by the engine gets equally distributed among all the wheels via the Quattro AWD system.
The AWD system works wonders and once you’re on the tracks or off-road, you can help but to admire what Audi has achieved when it comes to driving dynamics. The Quattro AWD system offers excellent grip on the tracks and the rear slip differential makes it more stable. On off-roads, the traction offered in rougher surfaces is impressive. Acceleration comes quickly and the high torque is easily visible once you press the gas pedal.
However, the high power also makes it a good cruiser if you can use the acceleration pedal carefully. The chassis comes fitted with RS Sport-tuned suspension that offers excellent stability while taking corners or sharp turns but at the cost of a firmer ride. Additionally, the Sport-tuned suspension comes with dampers which somewhat eases the suspension to provide a softer ride.
The 2022 Audi TT RS is expected to come fitted with disc brakes on all the wheels for exceptional stopping power. The front comes fitted with 14.6” ventilated discs twinned with eight-piston red calipers.
The rear discs come fitted with 12.2” discs twinned with 4-piston red calipers. The brakes are further loaded with ABS, ESC, Brake-pad wear indicator, emergency brake assist, and hill hold control. Once you press the brakes, the RS comes to stop from 70-0 MPH at 154 feet.

The Porsche 718 Cayman S is the lightest Coupe in the competition. Its lighter weight helps it with excellent braking capability. Oppositely, BMW’s M2 Competition along with Toyota’s Supra needs the farthest distance to stop. However, the M2 Competition is the heaviest, but it manages to come to a stop within 110 feet due to BMW’s M High-performance braking system.
We are already impressed by the TT RS’s turbocharged five-cylinder engine’s high power and torque that offers great performance. In addition to that, the RS’s engine impresses us more with its efficiency.
The engine being turbocharged offers an excellent economy. The engine manages to offer 20 and 30 MPG across the city and highway respectively. Further being packaged with a 14.5-gallon fuel tank, the RS lasts for 348 miles combined. The RS offers talents from both worlds, it shines in performance and fuel efficiency at the same time.

The Toyota Supra offers the best fuel economy. It excels in MPG offered in the city and combined. However, it falls short in fuel tank capacity but manages to offer a good range because of the high MPG numbers. BMW’s M2 Competition offers the least mileage and also a similar sized tank to that of the Supra. The smaller tank capacity and low MPG make it sit at the bottom in orange.
Some may feel the cabin to be boring, we like how the cabin is offered. Compared to the sizzling cabin of the BMW M2 Competition, the RS’s cabin is a mile behind being deluxe. The cabin inside is driver-focused but comes loaded with features that make it pragmatic and functional.
The cabin can seat 4 people. The amount of passenger room offered at the front is adequate, but the rear lacks adequate space. The rear seats are not recommended for adults due to the lower head and leg space because of the lowered roof. So, the rear seats are recommended for children, pets, and for storing belongings.
The seats are covered with Nappa leather and are padded well. The front comes fitted with 10-way power adjusted and heated sport bucket seats which are further decorated with the signature honeycomb pattern. The interior trim consists of carbon fiber inlays and the headliner consists of black soft-touch cloth.
The front offers a 12.3” digital driver’s display that also sums up to be a multimedia screen. Other standard features include an Alcantara leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, dual-zone automatic AC, air filter, outside temperature display, and many more.
For storage, the car offers a 12 cubic feet cargo trunk that can be used to store bags and small luggage. The rear seats can be folded in a 50/50 split for the further need for space.

The Audi and BMW offer a seating capacity for 4 people while the Toyota and Porsche offer a seating capacity for a couple. The BMW M2 Competition boasts a premium cabin that offers an impressive room to the passengers both at the front and back. Further being packed with a 13.8 cubic feet cargo trunk, the M2 Competition ticks all the markets required to be a tourer that is not only fast but stylish too.
Some of the standout interior features are as follows:
The cabin of the 2022 Audi TT RS is blessed with a capable infotainment system that comes bestowed with almost all the infotainment features the rivals possess. As we discussed earlier, the cabin is driver-focused and the 12.3” digital instrument cluster acts as a multimedia display.
Except, a designated multimedia screen, the RS offers a generous amount of tech inside. The cabin comes installed with a 12-speaker premium audio system by B&O that sounds pleasing and impressive quality-wise. Other standard features include Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth services, SiriusXM, Navigation, and plenty others.
Furthermore, the MMI Touch offers handwriting recognition and voice-controlled navigation. Audi’s phonebox comes pre-installed that includes a Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless charger, and signal extender.
Some of the highlights of the infotainment system are as follows:
The Audi TT has come a long way in attracting customers with its elegant and distinct style. Adding further to its legacy, the TT RS is even better. The fascia looks handsome and sleek. The fascia comes decorated with Audi’s signature RS-themed single-faced grille that sits comfortably between the headlamps.
Adding to that, the face comes fitted with sharp and mean-looking LED headlamps that host inside LED projector-beam headlamps with the signature DRLs. The bumper below boasts a couple of LED fog lamps that suit its tread-anywhere personality. The rear narrates a similar story. Full LED tail lamps with LED fog lamps below in the rear bumpers are what the car flaunts.
Additionally, there are key elements that make it sportier. A rear faux diffuser, RS Sports exhaust system, and a wing spoiler make it stand tall in looks. The below is dominated by a set of 20” seven-spoked forged aluminum wheels with embedded RS badging that further adds to its aesthetics.

The Audi TT RS is the most compact vehicle in the competition. It has a small wheelbase that offers delightful handling. Further with the highest ground clearance, it can offer better driving dynamics on rough surfaces. Being smaller and lighter than the others, it offers not only better maneuverability but also the freedom to be parked in tight spots. The M2 Competition is the heaviest and biggest of all. Being big and heavy, it emits excessive body rolls while taking turns and corners. Being bigger than the other, it is quite a task to drive and park in the city.
Some of the standout exterior features are as follows:
Neither the NHTSA nor the IIHS has crash-tested the Audi TT RS, so safety ratings aren’t available. The safety section is where Audi seems to have compromised. The RS comes installed with a meager amount of safety features and driver-assist programs.
Audi’s TT RS is based on Volkswagen’s MQB platform. The car’s frame is made of steel and the hood and front sub-frame are made of aluminum. The frame is coupled with MacPherson strut front suspension at the front and four-link rear suspension at the back.
The wheels are fitted with ventilated disc brakes both at the front and back. Furthermore, the brakes are coupled with modern safety features like ABS, ESC, Brake-pad wear indicator, emergency brake assist, and hill hold control. The system comes installed with modern safety and driver-assist tech that help in avoiding crashes.
Some of the standout safety features are as follows:
We will prefer the Audi over Toyota’s Supra despite the Audi being $10,000 more than the Supra because of its vast set of talents. Audi’s TT RS offers a better engine that offers similar fuel economy but better power and torque. As a result, the TT RS is faster and smoother than the Supra.
Moreover, the TT RS offers seating for 4 people compared to the latter’s 2. Some may like the exterior of Audi while some may prefer the Supra when it comes to looks. The cabin inside the Audi is driver-focused while the Supra offers a rich cabin inside which only a couple can seat. The Audi offers a bigger cargo and fuel tank. Henceforth, the Audi is a better option for us.
BMW’s M2 Competition is the most affordable car in the competition and quite frankly, we prefer it over the Audi. Not only cheaper than the Audi, it feels more rich and plushy. The cabin inside is rich, comfortable, and spacious.
The engine is weaker compared to the latter but we still love the BMW. BMW offers a vast range of options and additional packages for further customization. Safety features and driver-assist tech come in plenty. Thus, the M2 Competition seems to be a better choice.
Both are equally good and it's a touch to recommend one and ignore the other. However, we’ll pick the Audi TT RS because it is cheaper. Secondly, the engine performs better and the mileage offered is fantastic. Additionally, the Audi accommodates 4 people compared to the latter’s 2.
The cabin offers better passenger space and the rear packs a bigger cargo trunk. Furthermore, the Audi offers better ground clearance and a smaller body that further makes it delightful to drive. Lastly, the TT RS boasts a modern design compared to Cayman’s decade-old design language. Therefore, the Audi has our attention.
The 2022 Audi TT RS has held its name very well. Badged with the name ‘TT’ and further being complimented by the ‘RS’ lettering, it justifies its well-adorned name with a powerful engine that offers class-leading performance.
Further being assisted by the Quattro AWD system, the TT RS is a monster in the tracks. It is a fun-to-drive car that also sums up as a great tourer or a cruiser depending on how you drive it. The cabin is widely loved by drivers and comes installed with almost all the techs and comforts you need. The fascia design is the game-changer.
Some may prefer the BMW M2 competition, but the rest will definitely stare at the Audi. Though it misses modern safety and driver techs, focused and oriented driving will make things easier. 2021 MY of the RS ranks 4thin the class and we aren’t surprised. It’s excellent and you must bring one home.
