The 2022 Cadillac XT4 gets a turbocharged 2.0L inline-4 under its hood which is shared by all three trims in the line-up. This powertrain gets a rating of 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels only as standard. All-Wheel Drive is optional and costs $2,500 over and above the standard powertrain.
The Cadillac XT4 is a very good all-around car that one can easily drive daily without any hassles whatsoever. The cabin is quiet at speeds in the city and on the highway with the comfortable seats doing their bit to keep your butt comfortable. The engine is smooth and accelerates linearly but when there’s a need to overtake the engine can feel a bit rough in the higher RPMs. The engine has a very good punch and is a very friendly motor inside the city and on the highway. This powerplant proves to be rather fuel-efficient as well and we’ll discuss the same in a bit.

Though the Cadillac and the Lexus are very similarly powered, the latter takes an easy win when it comes to acceleration, completing the quarter-mile with a comfortable lead of 1.3 seconds. The other more powerful options - the XC60 and the X3 - perform pretty much similar to the others, with the Bimmer being faster and quicker than the Volvo and completing the quarter-mile with a 0.8-second lead.
The 2022 Cadillac XT4 comes powered with a turbocharged 2.0L mill under the hood and if we go by trends, these engines have come to be very fuel-efficient while also maintaining the power and punch required for everyday use. The XT4 is no different and returns 22 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway for a combined 24 MPG from its 15.9-gallon fuel tank. This combo also enables the XT4 to have an impressive range and be super competitive in the segment.

With very similar fuel economy figures, the Cadillac XT4 takes a good lead over the Lexus, which has a very similar fuel tank capacity, on the highway. That said, the Bimmer turns out to be the most fuel-efficient of all the SUVs in the segment but has a lower range than the Volvo because of a smaller fuel tank.
The 2022 Cadillac XT4 gets a lot going for its money as far as the interior visuals and comfort are concerned. For the MSRP, the SUV offers a well-crafted cabin that has an abundance of soft-touch areas available throughout the dashboard. The door panels are covered in soft-touch material and have contrast stitching available throughout along with a trim piece on the armrest. The dashboard carries over the contrast stitching and adds the trim piece as well near the AV vents.
The center of the dashboard mounts the 8-inch touchscreen display that comes as a standard fitment to the XT4 and is carried on to all the trims. This system gets a very impressive user interface with vivid colors and an intuitive layout. The touchscreen is tilted forward a bit and has no glare whatsoever but the area below the screen looks a bit empty and doesn’t suit the overall aesthetic. The system gets all the features one would expect in a modern car and also includes wireless compatibility for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The center console gets a very slim array of toggles for various functions of the car, while also adding buttons to turn on/off the various driver-assistance features on the car. The center console also has a lid-covered cubby space that has a 12V socket, a USB output, and a USB Type-C output as well. Other things in the console include the gear shifter, some buttons for drive modes, and a couple of cupholders. The center armrest is covered in leather and also has contrast stitching, along with massive space inside.
The seats of the XT4 get the same leather and contrast stitching done both at the front and the rear. The front seats get power-adjustability as standard and are covered in simulated leather on the Luxury trim, which can be upgraded to premium leather in the higher trims. The front seats are power-adjustable as standard while massaging, memory, heating, and ventilation have been kept for the higher trims to enjoy. The rear seats get plenty of room and are very comfortable. There are pockets behind the front seats to add to practicality, while the center console gets two rear AC vents, a USB port, and a USB Type-C port.

The Cadillac XT4’s cabin is very spacious and has a nice blend of comfort and luxury to the rear seats as well. It gets ample headroom in both rows with a lot of legroom in the rear seats to serve the occupants well. The cargo capacity is impressive as well and one can easily pack a weekend’s worth of luggage for a trip. But, the star SUV remains the BMW X3 which has the most spacious cabin overall in both the rows along with a cargo capacity that is 27.55% greater than the Caddy.
Some of the highlighting interior and infotainment features of the Cadillac XT4 are:
The 2022 Cadillac XT4 gets a very distinctive appearance in the front with a big housing that includes the DRLs as well as non-functional vents in the front bumper. The grille upfront is a single piece and has the Cadillac logo placed right in the center, with chrome surrounding the perimeter. The front bumper gets vents to help with the airflow. The hood has a muscular appeal with a raised mid-section and adds to the overall aggression of the design.
The sides have a very simple design with a clean overall look and plastic cladding around the wheel arches. The side mirrors are door-mounted and complement the alloy wheels well. The taillights have LED construction and are pretty bright as well with an overall clean look and a black bumper and dual-exhaust design.

The Volvo XC60 is the heaviest in the segment and the weight affects the driving dynamics as well. Though it is faster than the lighter Cadillac, the XC60’s acceleration is very much affected by its heft. On the contrary, the Bimmer does a pretty good job considering it just slots below the Volvo in terms of weight and has a very similar wheelbase. The Cadillac’s is the lightest and is the most compact of the other SUVs while also boasting a nice wheelbase which helps in maximizing the comfort inside.
Some of the highlighting exterior features are:
The 2022 Cadillac XT4 gets the best ratings on the NHTSA scorecard with a 5-star rating overall, while the IIHS has rated ‘Good’ for the crashworthiness parameters. It gets a decent set of driver-assistance features right from the Luxury trim itself and consists of features like automatic emergency braking along with the usual stuff like ABS, EBD, traction control, and multi-stage airbags. The higher trims get more safety features, but as optional, like:
Both the Caddy XT4 and the Lexus NX 300 have a lot in common including their power figures, engine outputs, and acceleration characteristics but the Lexus remains quite a lot faster than the Caddy. Both have very comfortable and posh cabins that are covered in soft-touch material and have a certain edge to them - the XT4 is a bit sportier than the Lexus. That said, the XT4 gets a bit better fuel economy on the highway while also having more headroom in both the rows and a bigger cargo capacity as well.
The Volvo XC60 and the Cadillac XT4 have a very similar pace despite the former having more output and a better 8-speed automatic transmission on tap. The Volvo’s engine is pretty fuel-efficient but takes the lead over the Cadillac by posting more range due to a bigger fuel tank. It is also quite heavy and the weight eats into the driving dynamics of the Nordic SUV. The Cadillac has better interior space, more cargo space, better fuel economy, and an impressive styling to its advantage that attracts a lot of crowd and sales.
The Bimmer and the Caddy have a different persona altogether with the German focusing more on the performance side while the American preferring comfort over everything else. The Caddy might seem a bit underpowered given the difference in timings but the interior and the ride quality make up for the lack in performance. The X3 is a very agile machine while the XT4 takes the comfort to the next level with posh materials and a solid finish inside.
The 2022 Cadillac XT4 is a very commendable offering from the American luxury car manufacturer and offers a very comfortable entry to the company’s SUV lineup. The mill under the hood is a pretty strong unit and does well on the highway while being fuel-efficient in the city. The interior is spacious and has a big cargo area to store stuff. The styling is striking and the safety features on offer are ample for daily driving.
