Overall Rating
The Chevrolet Silverado introduces a mid-cycle redesign in 2022. The Silverado has been one of the market best when it comes to pickup trucks of the 1500 weight class.
The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado gets some much-needed changes from last year. Available on sale with a starting price of $31,095 for the regular cab, the 2022 Chevy Silverado Regular Cab will be offered in the same single trim, the Work Truck. Making the truck look versatile as ever, this Chevy gives people to choose from one of the three engine options: 4.3L EcoTec V6, a 5.3L EcoTec V8, and a 2.7L Turbo-4. The Silverado's turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine now boasts 420 lb-ft of torque, up from 348 lb-ft in last year's model.
For 2022 Chevrolet has also introduced the first-ever Silverado ZR2 along with three new exterior paints: Dark Ash, Sand Dune, and Glacier Blue Metallic. The interior for the Silverado 1500 WT remains the same as the previous year, but higher-end trims get more features. The 2022 Silverado 1500 will go head to head against the GMC Sierra 1500, and the Ford F-150.
The base work truck model comes out as one of the most VFM propositions in the market and which is why we would suggest this trim to most readers who are willing to purchase the 2022 Chevy Silverado.

"The 2022 Silverado, with its enhanced interior, more powerful diesel engine and new ZR2 off-road package, looks to have largely closed the gap." Edmunds
The regular cab of the 2022 Silverado will continue to be available in a single trim called the Work Truck or WT, prices of the same are expected to start at $31,095 for the RWD version and 4WD will cost an additional $4,600. There are three engine choices for the regular cab: a 4.3-liter EcoTec V6, a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and a 5.3-liter EcoTec V8.

A range of engines—including a turbocharged four-cylinder, two V-8s, and a Duramax diesel 3.0-liter inline-six—means there's a Silverado 1500 for any job. - Car and Driver
For 2022, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 offers three engine options: 4.3L EcoTec V6, a 5.3L EcoTec V8, and a 2.7L Turbo-4. The 4.3L EcoTec V6 and 5.4L EcoTec V8 feature a 6-speed automatic transmission while the 2.7L Turbo-4 comes standard with 8-speed automatic transmission. 2WD is standard, while all the engine variations provide the option to upgrade to the 4WD system.
The new 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder engine in the Silverado offers more torque than last year's model (up to 420 lb-ft from 348 lb-ft). To make use of the 2.7-liter engine's increased torque, changes were made to the eight-speed transmission as well. The base Silverado can accelerate from 0-60 in 7.2 seconds and finish the standing quarter-mile in 15.6 seconds.
The 2.7-liter engine helps the Silverado tow up to 9,600-pounds. Towing capacities for the 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8 engines have not altered from 11,200 pounds to and 13,300 pounds, respectively. The 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel max, which is available on other cab sizes, has its towing capacity increased by 4,000 pounds to 13,300. The brand new ZR2 trim will come with front and rear e-lockers and Multimatic DSSV dampers for better off-road performance.

The Ford F-150 edges out the Chevrolet Silverado when it comes to power with 290 hp. The GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado share the same powertrain configuration and comes with 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque. When it comes to towing capacity. The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado is ahead of the competition, with a considerable margin. The 2022 Silverado is also the quickest to accelerate from 0-60 mph with the GMC Sierra slower by 0.1 seconds.
With no mechanical changes expected with the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, we do not expect a change in fuel economy figures from the 2021 model. The 2021 model offered 16 mpg in the city, 21 mpg on the highway, and 17 mpg combined. The optional turbocharged inline-4 engine gives 20/23/21 mpg in the city/highway/combined, respectively,

The 5.3L V8 gives 17/23/19 mpg in the city/highway/ combined, respectively. The 4WD versions of all three engines offer 1 mpg less in city and highway. Irrespective of the engine or drivetrain the 2022 Chevy Silverado will come with a 28.3-gallon fuel tank. Even though it is larger than the Ford F-150's fuel tank, but due to better mpg figures, it gets a better range.
From the stripped-down Work Truck model to the decked-out High Country, the Silverado can be configured in a multitude of ways. - Car and Driver
There are no major changes to the interior for the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado WT. Although higher-end models, starting with the LT trim get a fully redesigned, new premium interior. It will feature a redesigned, horizontal instrument panel, along with a new, more functional center console. The Regular Cab WT retains the essentials, including manually adjustable front seats, manual locks and windows, and vinyl seats.
There are a few things we will see in the 2022 Silverado from the 2021 model year. For starters, we will see the split-bench seat with seating for 3, where the middle seat folds down to create the center console. Then we will see manual air conditioning, which we hope changes to automatic air conditioning, and lastly, the heavy-duty vinyl changes to cloth upholstery.Â

The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has not yet been crash-tested by the NHTSA, However, the 2021 Silverado 1500 regular cab which has the same structure has been tested and scored an overall 4-star safety rating in both drivetrains. The IIHS has not yet crash-tested the Silverado 1500 regular cab models.
The 2022 Silverado is expected to include GM's class-exclusive SuperCruise autopilot system, but not in 2022 Silverado regular cab. The Ford F-150 comes with more power but lesser performance and towing capacity. There is also less space on the interior compared to the Silverado 1500 but comes with a more modern design. However, it comes with better mpg figures, and even with a smaller fuel tank; it allows it a marginally better driving range as well. It is also more affordable than the Silverado.
The GMC Sierra 1500 is the same as the Silverado 1500, it has some differences in appearance and finishes, but underneath it is the same with the same platform and mechanical parts. However, the GMC Sierra can tow 100 pounds less in its base configuration compared to the Silverado and comes at a slightly more affordable rate too.
The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is expected to have a release date set for the third quarter of 2021 and will come with the same structure and mechanical parts but is expected to get a new front and rear fascias, new towing technologies and safety features, and the much needed interior update making the 2022 Silverado 1500 an attractive offering from Chevrolet.
