Overall Rating
The 2022 Genesis G70 is here, and the refreshed model is set to sell in South Korea. Genesis still puts an asterisk at the end of its G70 release, saying that the specifications and features discussed are for Korean-market vehicles. U.S.-specific market info still isn’t explicitly defined, but it’s safe to assume that most of what we see here will also make it stateside. The G70 is the brand's rear-wheel-drive shot across the bows of established entry-level luxury sedan players such as the BMW 3 Series.
Just three years after its launch, the 2022 Genesis G70 has been refreshed with sharp new looks and better tech, but it loses its 6-speed manual transmission. The 2022 G70 is now available for sale at a base MSRP of $37,775. The G70 2.0T comes with a 252-hp turbo-4 engine that has ample power for most driving situations but the 365-hp twin-turbo V6 available in the 3.0T models is more energetic and can do the 0-60 sprint in just 4.3 seconds.
On the inside, the G70 gets a new bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen with an integrated navigation system and wireless OTA updates. The cabin is stylish, attractive and it screams for luxury. The G70 also boasts a lengthy list of driver-assist features. However, it scores low marks in terms of rear-seat accommodation and day-to-day practicality. It gets heavy competition from the BMW 3 Series, Acura TLX, and Lexus IS 300.
Amongst the available option, the 2.0T will suffice most needs of the buyers. However, if budget is not a constraint, and exclusivity is the name of the game for you, the 3.3T model with the Sport Prestige package is the option to go for as this model adds a limited-slip differential, Brembo brakes, and other features for a true sports sedan experience.

The refreshed 2022 Genesis G70 expands into the compact luxury sedan segment with more features, trim options, and a higher price- The Car Connection
The 2022 Genesis G70 sedan is available in three different trim levels namely the 2.0T, the 3.3T, and 3.3T Launch Edition. It has a starting price of $37,775 and ranges up to $54,750, without a $1,025 destination fee. Both RWD and AWD configurations are available. Though the lineup might not be extensive, the availability of a limited number of options improves the number and types of features that are available across the lineup.
However, with each trim, Genesis also adds a set of optional packages that add value to this already practical proposition. The $4,000 2.0T Prestige package adds wireless charging, leather upholstery, front and rear parking sensors, a 15-speaker Lexicon sound system, and a power sunroof. The 3.3T Sport Advanced package includes all the aforementioned features and also adds ventilated front seats. This package can be bought for $4,300.

The G70 gets firmer and more responsive without feeling harsh- Kelley Blue Book
As the name suggests, the base model 2.0T features a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 engine that delivers 252 hp and 260 lb-ft. of torque. The 3.3L twin-turbo V6 engine available on the 3.3T trims, comes with 365 hp and 376 lb-ft. of torque. Power is sent through an 8-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels while AWD is optional. The previously used 6-speed manual transmission is now discontinued.
Get behind the wheel and you will be amazed at the G70's driving experience. The G70 features a strut suspension in the front and a multi-link in the rear. The ride quality is perfectly suited for a luxury sports sedan. It does not offer agile handling but it stays stable and planted at tight corners. Talking about steering, it is direct and accurate but doesn't have a lot of feel to it. Altogether, the G70 maintains a good driving posture on the road.
Configured with the base engine, the G70 takes 6.2 seconds to complete the 0-60 MPH sprint, while the bigger engine reduces this to 4.3 seconds. A quarter-mile run takes 14.7 seconds on the base model and 12.9 seconds on the 3.3T models. Speaking of brakes, the 3.3T model can be equipped with strong Brembo brakes for smooth braking performance. With the regular 4-wheel disc brakes in use, the G70 recorded 121 feet of braking distance.

The BMW 3 Series is a true driver's car and its performance stats prove that fact. The Acura TLX is the only FWD entrant in this competition but its performance remains better than the G70. Surprisingly, the Lexus IS 300 gives a good challenge to the G70 in both performance tests while its ride quality is the best in the segment.
The Genesis G70 lags most of the class with just 20 mpg combined- Edmunds
When it comes to fuel economy, the Genesis G70 stands behind its rivals. The most fuel-efficient version of the G70 is the RWD version with the 2.0L engine. According to the EPA, this model earned ratings of 21 MPG in the city, 31 MPG on the highway, and 24 MPG combined. If you opt for the AWD variant, ratings drop to 23 MPG combined.
With the twin-turbo V6 engine configuration, the rating drops to 18 MPG in the city, 27 MPG on a highway, and 21 MPG combined while the AWD variant returns 1 MPG less. All G70s come fitted with a 15.8-gallon fuel tank that can deliver a driving range between 379 and 316 miles. It's a lot less compared to its class rivals.

The BMW 3 Series again shines with 30 MPG combined. It is the most fuel-efficient sedan in this segment. The Lexus IS 300 is slightly more efficient than the G70, though its driving range is the least here. On the other hand, the Acura TLX's fuel economy is very similar to the G70.
Already a solid luxury sport sedan, the refreshed 2022 G70 exudes even more quality and attention to detail- Edmunds
Genesis has managed to craft an interior that is as good to look at as it is easy to use. The dash layout is elegantly simplified while it might seem a bit rudimentary at first glance. The G70 offers premium materials and excellent build quality in the cabin. Its driver-centric layout and straightforward controls cater to driving enthusiasts. Genesis also keeps things classy by avoiding the urge to plaster faux carbon-fiber bits and a flat-bottom steering wheel into the cabin.
Leatherette upholstery is standard but higher trims are dressed in premium leather. The upscale brightwork and decoratively stitched surfaces on the seats will appeal to the buyers. The seats are wide and well-cushioned with good bolstering. Power-adjustable front seats with heated functions are standard. The front row offers a good amount of head and legroom for adults but it's the other way round at the back. The legroom at the back can be tight for some while headroom is decent.

Don't expect much cargo space from the G70 as it has one of the smallest trunks in the class. It offers just 10.5 cu-ft., which can store only two luggage bags. Storage, like the door pockets and center console cubbies, are also lacking in space and compartments. The most prominent change in the GG70's cabin this year is the new 10.25-inch touchscreen with the brand's latest connectivity software as standard fitment.
Some connectivity features like Android Auto, Apple Carplay, Bluetooth, etc. are standard. The system also supports OTA wireless updates. The screen's resolution is very high and the touch responses are super fast. The menus are well-organized while the interface is intuitive and straightforward. You also get a 15-speaker Lexicon audio system on top trims which also sounds amazing. Some other cabin features are:
We think the new 2022 Genesis G70 looks a tad sharper than last year’s model- Kelley Blue Book
The exteriors of the 2022 Genesis G70 get a massive revamp in styling, even though it's just a mid-cycle facelift. The most apparent change is found on its fascias, which features a split configuration that matches with the other new Genesis vehicles in the lineup. The upstart luxury brand's emerging design language, which debuted on the larger G80 and G90 sedans and the new GV80 crossover SUV, has been applied to attractive effect.
The G70's sleek headlamps and sizable grille add to the exquisite styling of the car. Coming to the side profile, you will notice reworked front fenders with functional vents. It has a low ground clearance compared to its rivals for easy entry and exit. At the back, you get updated taillights very Mercedes-Benz-esque. The ducktail spoiler sort of integrated into the trunk lid looks really cool. An oval-shaped exhaust tips rounds off the rear design.

The BMW 3 Series sits quite high compared to other luxury compact sedans for a better stance. The Acura TLX is a compact sedan but its lengthy proportions make it look like a midsize sedan. This can be a problem while maneuvering at tight turns or parking lots. The Lexus IS 300 weighs slightly more than the G70 and yet it is much quicker on the road. Some other exterior features are:
Another feather in the G70's cap is it's extensive list of driver assistance features- Carbuzz
The 2022 Genesis G70 won the Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS, which is the agency's highest rating. It also received 'Good' ratings in all six crash safety tests for its crashworthiness and a 'Superior' rating for the front crash prevention. On the other hand, the NHTSA ignored to test-crash the G70.
Safety-conscious people should not worry about the G70 as the sedan boasts a long list of standard safety technologies while a few of them are optional. In terms of passive safety, the airbags bring the overall total to no less than 8. Some standard safety features available are:
Similarly priced as the G70, the Acura TLX is an FWD entrant. It offers an agile acceleration from both the available engines and an engaging driving experience. Both the sedans have a tight rear row but boast classy interior materials. In terms of safety, both the sedans earned top ratings but the G70 packs more standard safety techs. Also, the G70 comes with more standard creature comforts.
The Lexus IS 300, being the luxury sub-brand of Toyota, is definitely an extremely reliable bet. It adorns a richly crafted cabin but its rear row is cramped. Unlike the G70, only one engine powers the IS 300. It offers an extremely smooth ride quality and is a complete package aide with class-leading comfort, strikingly impressive looks, and class-leading safety ratings and features.
The BMW 3 Series is the priciest rival of the G70 in this competition. Spending extra bucks are completely worth it as it offers exciting performance from its lineup of powerful engines. It is also known for its agile handling. The interior is curated with top-quality materials while the rear row offers agreeable passenger space. Both sedans earned top safety ratings but the 3 Series offers better cargo space and fuel economy too.
Already a solid luxury sport sedan, the refreshed 2022 Genesis G70 exudes even more quality and attention to detail. It offers great built quality and plenty of power to get around without any hassle. There are also plenty of standard features and amenities. It also offers great value for money, especially at the price point that the G70 is offered.
