Overall Rating
Genesis offers their luxury sedans at a significantly lower price compared to the German rivals it competes against.
Genesis offers their luxury sedans at a significantly lower price compared to the German rivals it competes against. The G80 has also been such a value-for-money proposition filled up to the brim with features and styled aggressively. The Genesis G80 carries over to 2022 with some major changes while the underpinnings remain the same. The G80 now gets a new Sport Package that gives the car some extra styling inside out along with rear-wheel steering and grippier tires.
There are plenty of trim options and configurations on offer with the Genesis G80. We would advise you to go for the 3.5T trim as it comes with a stronger engine and superior set of features over the 2.5T base trim without the requirement of any packages. This one prioritizes ride quality and comfort while for a little more performance and slightly better handling and maneuverability, you can go for the 3.5T Sport.

The 2022 Genesis G80 is offered in two main trim options are the 2.5T and 3.5T. These trims differ based on their engines as the 2.5T is powered by a 2.5 L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine whereas the 3.5T is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5 L V6 engine. The 2.5T is further available in base, Sport, Advanced, and Prestige sub-trims. The 3.5T gets Sport and Prestige packages available. All models are equipped with the same 8-speed automatic transmission and are available in both RWD as well as AWD. The Sport models are also expected to be further equipped with the Advanced and Prestige packages which is a nice addition for people who want to add more features to their sporty sedan. The following are the main features of each trim of the 2022 Genesis G80-

The 2022 Genesis G80 models are expected to arrive in early 2022, but as of now, we haven’t received any official confirmation from Genesis yet.
There are two engine options on offer with the 2022 Genesis G80. The 2.5T models feature a 2.5L turbocharged GDI 4-cylinder engine producing 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of maximum power and torque. The 3.5T models come equipped with a stronger 3.5L twin-turbocharged GDI V6 engine churning out 375 hp and 391 lb-ft. Both engines come mated to an 8-speed Shift-by-Wire automatic transmission with paddle shifters. RWD is the standard drivetrain configuration with all the models while AWD is optional.
The 2022 Genesis G80 with the base engine takes 5.7 seconds to achieve a speed of 60mph and crosses the quarter-mile mark in 14.1 seconds. The stronger V6 brings these figures down to 4.9 and 13.4 seconds respectively. The G80 is limited to a top speed of 155 mph which is pretty much the standard in the segment. The G80 with either engine is not as agile or engaging-to-drive as the competitors while but the ride quality is superior and the G80 is very much comfortable. The Sport models are expected to offer better handling once they come out.

All of the German competitors are faster, more agile, and responsive than Genesis while Genesis is the more powerful one among them. The extra power and torque outputted by the G80 are clearly not enough to carry the extra heft of the car and keep up with the rivals. The Mercedes offers the best performance while Bimmer is the most enjoyable one to drive around. The Genesis, however, is in no way a bad car as it provides a magic carpet-like ride quality with enough power at disposal at all times and that justifies its lack of agile driving dynamics as a luxury sedan.
While others in the competition have added some mild-hybrid tech into their engines, the Genesis still comes with a proper gas engine. This sentence would have been exciting if the car justified the lack of hybrid tech with blistering fast performance, but that is not the case here. The Genesis despite being lesser than the rivals in terms of speed and handling, still couldn’t keep up with them in terms of fuel efficiency. The Genesis G80 puts out a fuel economy of 17 mpg in the city, 26 on the highway, and a combined efficiency of 20 mpg with the stronger V6 engine in an AWD configuration. The base engine with AWD lifts up these figures to 22, 30, and 25 respectively while switching to RWD would add a single digit to all of these numbers.

The fastest machine here, the Mercedes E-Class is also the most efficient one. It puts out an impressive combined efficiency of 26 mpg. The BMW and Audi are just behind the Merc in terms of efficiency while the Genesis lags behind. The Mercedes also comes with the largest capacity fuel tank that enables it to reach around 550 miles in combined road and driving conditions without a refill, which is a best-in-class range. The Genesis offers the lowest range despite having a pretty large 19.3-gallon fuel capacity.
The Genesis G80 delivers a gracious and luxurious interior that is appointed with all sorts of luxury and comfort features either as standard or as optional ones. The cabin is super-spacious, aery and the second-row space is the best-in-class. The cabin features a Black high glossy interior trim in both the main trims while the Sport models feature a special Sport interior consisting of a Blackish Real Aluminum Interior, Prime Nappa leather-covered steering wheel, horn cover, metal pedal, and an exclusive steering wheel. Opting for the Advanced trim gets you Matte finish wood trim and ventilated front seats while the Prestige trim adds leather seating surfaces in the 2.5T variant and Nappa leather seats in the 3.5T version.
The 3.5T trim in the Prestige sub-trim offers a super-luxurious interior environment consisting of luscious features such as a microfiber suede headliner and pillar and all seats and steering wheel with heating functionality. The Genesis is nothing short of the epitome of luxury in the segment and can compete head to head against any of the German competitors in terms of luxury, comfort, and space. The second of the G80 is one of the most spacious ones in the segment while cargo capacity has been slightly compromised. Even though the Genesis G80 has a weird-looking exterior, the inside of the cabin is ultra-premium and super-luxurious.

The Genesis G80 offers the most spacious interior and without any options added to the feature set, the G80 is also the most feature-rich and luxurious one. The Germans are in no way inferior to the Genesis, but to spec them up with enough features as the G80, you’ll have to spend a lot more money. The BMW 540i offers the most spacious cargo area while others are a little short on cargo space. All of these machines have a superb quality interior and none of them could be criticized for that, but the Genesis has an edge as it is the most spacious. The following are the main interior features of the 2022 Genesis G80-
The 2022 Genesis G80 comes with a 14.5-inch high-definition LCD touchscreen display and an 8-inch color LCD cluster display in the base model while the higher-end trims feature a 12.3-inch 3D digital instrument cluster. The 2.5T models feature a 12-speaker audio system while the 3.5T gets a 21-speaker Lexicon QuantumLogic Surround Sound System with a 14-channel digital external amplifier. The infotainment system is responsive and advanced but it does come with a learning curve. The audio systems are superior and great-sounding and offer great value for money. The following are the main infotainment features in the 2022 Genesis G80 sedan-
The 2022 Genesis G80 looks bizarre from the outside and it is actually weird enough to keep people away from it and go for a more expensive German sedan. I personally don’t like the design and it genuinely looks like a Chinese knockoff of an S Class. The huge grille up front and the equally large lower lip area make up the whole front portion taking away the character of the car and making it look boring, while trying to be flashy. The side profile and the sloping roofline at the rear look sleek and stylish while the overall character of the vehicle is a bit disappointing.
The Genesis G80 comes with full LED automatic headlights and LED taillights along with Genesis logo approach lights and double-glazed soundproof solar glass. The 2.5T models come equipped with 19˝alloy wheels while the 3.5T models get 20-inch alloys. All-season tires are standard for the G80 while the 2.5T Sport and 3.5T Sport trims feature Sport exclusive wheels and grippier, tires from Continental and Pirelli respectively. The Sport models also feature exclusive, colored brake calipers and an exclusive color scheme that is Cavendish Red.

The Mercedes E-Class looks the best and most stylish followed by the Audi and BMW while the Genesis looks bad. The Genesis is also the heaviest one here and that translates to slower acceleration and disappointing fuel economy whereas the BMW 5 Series is the lightest. The Genesis also has the largest exterior dimensions and that does result in a massive advantage in terms of interior space. The Genesis and BMW offer a practical ground clearance of 5.5-inches while the Mercedes has the lowest clearance. The following are the main exterior features of the 2022 Genesis G80-
The 2022 Genesis G80 comes with a highly advanced set of safety and driver assistance features. The 2022 Genesis G80 has not been crash-tested by any of the agencies while the 2021 version of the car got perfect safety scores. The G80 scored a 5-star overall rating from NHTSA while it further got all 5-star ratings under individual parameters except for front driver side protection for which it received 4-stars. IIHS tested the car and selected it as one of their Top Safety Pick+ cars of 2021 and also awarded it with all ‘Good’ ratings. All of this means that the G80 is one of the safest machines in the segment and price range. The following are the main safety and driver assistance features in the 2022 Genesis G80 sedan-
The 2022 BMW 5 Series offers a superior driving experience compared to the Genesis while also being faster. The Genesis is more powerful on paper but is less agile and less smooth than the Bimmer. The G80 offers superior ride quality along with far more comfortable seats and a higher specced feature set. Overall the BMW offers better drivability while the Genesis offers more value-for-money.
The 2021 Mercedes E Class is the fastest machine in this comparison and it comes with a luxurious and superb quality cabin. The Mercedes is also the most fuel-efficient machine here while also being the most beautiful one to look at from outside. The Genesis is more spacious than the Merc, but that doesn’t justify the extra punch and agility that the Merc offers. The Mercedes is an overall better machine and is also a statement of style and prestige that makes it the better choice.
The 2021 Audi A6 comes with a tech-filled interior with advanced infotainment features that make it one of the most tech-filled sedans in the segment. The Audi is similarly fast as the Genesis while being much more fuel-efficient and slightly while offering slightly better handling. The Audi obviously looks better while the Genesis offers a much more spacious interior. Overall, both these machines are very much capable and a choice between them would be subjective.
The 2022 Genesis G80 offers a dash of versatility in a segment filled with traditional German rivals. The G80 is s super-spacious car with a lot of luxury present as standard which could be further elevated by opting for available packages and features. However, the powertrain of the G80 is not as responsive or fuel-efficient as the rivals while the exterior appearance of the Genesis is disappointing. Overall the Genesis offers great value for money as it comes with a comfortable interior, superior ride quality, and is feature-packed even though its looks might keep you away from it.
