Overall Rating
Although the F-Type has remained mostly unchanged over the years, Jaguar gave it a comprehensive facelift last year with restyled front and rear fascias, giving it an edgier, modern look. The carmaker also gave the interiors a refresh with a fully digital gauge cluster, and an updated infotainment system, all of which help it stay competitive among more modern rivals like Chevrolet Corvette, Porsche 718 Cayman S, and Audi TT RS.
Jaguar has launched the 2022 F-Type with quite a few modifications made to the ways in which it can be configured. To begin with, the only choice of powertrain available with the 2022 Jaguar F-Type is a 5.0L supercharged V8 that makes either 444 hp or 575 hp in the R variant. Then, the new base trim with the 444 hp version of the 5.0L V8 has been labeled P450.
However, this midsize car will continue to be offered in both coupe and convertible body styles. The price of the 2022 F-Type Coupe starts at an MSRP of $69,900 for the base P450 model, excluding destination charges. In exchange, it offers features like RWD, 20-inch wheels, an active exhaust system, and grained leather-wrapped sport seats.
The base P450 model of the 2022 Jaguar F-Type offers plenty of value for money. Unless having an AWD drivetrain is a necessity, the F-Type P450 will fit the bill for most people. Also, with 444 hp on tap and a 5.0L supercharged V8, there’s no shortage in performance either.

The 2022 F-Type will be offered in 3 trims; P450, R-Dynamic, and R. The lineup starts at an MSRP of $69,900 and will go up to $103,200 for the most feature-loaded F-Type R model. The base model is fairly equipped with standard features like LED headlights, rear camera, front and rear parking aid, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and navigation.
However, the base model comes only with the RWD drive type. If buyers are looking to own an AWD F-Type, the R-Dynamic trim, costing $79,900, is the least expensive way to do so. Moving on to the top-spec R model will get you exclusivities like R body styling, red brake calipers, R interior with Windsor leather performance seats, and 20-inch 10-spoke gloss-black wheels.

For 2022, Jaguar has discontinued both the inline-4 and V-6 engines, leaving only the Supercharged V-8 to power all three trims. On the new P450 and R-Dynamic trims, the V-8 is detuned to 444 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque, while the range-topping R model continues to get the V-8 in all its glory, producing 575 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. While both models continue to get the same 8-speed automatic, the R model also gets standard all-wheel-drive.
While it's still unclear how well the detuned V-8 in the lower trims will perform, rest assured, the full-blown R model will be a hoot to drive, letting out a guttural roar as you floor the throttle. Even with the base engine, the F-Type will sprint to 60 MPH from 0 in just 4.4 seconds and cross the quarter-mile in 12 seconds. For even more performance, the R models cut the 0 - 60 MPH time by 1 second and get a sub-12-second quarter-mile time.

With the detuned V-8 under the hood, the F-Type P450 can match the Porsche 718 Cayman S in terms of performance. The Chevrolet Corvette still leads the pack, edging closer to the sub-3-second mark, while the Audi TT RS is also surprisingly fast, offering similar performance. The F-Type, however, has always been a hoot to drive thanks to the classic layout with excellent dynamics and a well-tuned chassis. While the steering feels too sensitive at times, it offers plenty of feedback through the corners.
While the midsized coupe is classified as a luxury sports car, the ride quality is firmer than you'd expect and some undulations do filter into the cabin when the road gets rough. But, overall, Jaguar has managed to balance it well, and you can easily munch miles on the highway without any discomfort. While the new P450 trim does not get all-wheel-drive even as an option, the range-topping R model gets it as standard, allowing it to tackle tricky situations and plant the power down even more safely.

We can expect the base P450 models with the detuned V-8 engine to return similar fuel efficiency figures as the outgoing V-6 model, returning 18 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway, while the range-topping R model will continue to return 16 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highways. Coupled with the 18.5-gallon fuel tank, the F-Type is expected to return an impressive range as well.

While the new V-8 engine has improved performance, the F-Type takes a toll on efficiency compared to modern turbocharged powertrains used by both the Porsche Cayman S and Audi TT RS. However, it does manage better figures than the Chevrolet Corvette, which is one of the least fuel-efficient cars in this comparison.

The interiors are carried over for the 2022 model with minimal updates. So the ride continues to get a driver-centric layout that oozes quality with plenty of leather and soft-touch plastics. The 2022 model will also get a 2-seater layout in both convertible and coupe forms, with bucket seats for both passengers that are 6-way power-adjustable and covered in leather. Options like heating and ventilation are also available. There is an underlying firmness to the seats, but that is to be expected with a sports car and helps anchor you in place through the twisties.
To keep up with the competition, Jaguar has given the cabin a comprehensive update last year including a fully digital gauge cluster, but it is starting to look dated and bland compared to its more striking exteriors. The dashboard is well laid out with the infotainment system sitting in the middle in its section, just above the climate controls, all within easy reach of the driver. The center vents that rise when the climate control is activated still look cool even after all these years.

According to Jaguar, the convertible models will continue to get a power-operated soft-top that can be raised or lowered in under 12 seconds. Moreover, NVH levels are excellent for a sports car, so is visibility. One of the advantages of having a standard front-engine rear-drive layout is the practicality on offer. Because of this, the Jaguar F-Type coupe offers more space and is more practical than the Chevrolet Corvette and Audi TT RS. Surprisingly, the Porsche 718 Cayman S is the most practical of the bunch, offering nearly 15 cubic feet of cargo space. Cargo capacity is expected to be similar at 14.4 cubic feet for the coupe model and a minuscule 7.4 cubic feet for the convertible model of the F-Type for 2022.
All models of 2022 F-Type get the latest version of Jaguar's Touch Pro infotainment system through a centrally mounted 10-inch touchscreen display. The system has always been easy to use with well-defined menus. Physical controls for the volume and other shortcuts are also provided for easy access.
Although some lag does creep in occasionally, it stays stable most of the time. As expected, the F-Type gets all the modern features as standard including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, satellite and HD radio, Bluetooth, and a 10-speaker audio system. Jaguar also offers an upgraded 12-speaker sound system as an option.

With a comprehensive facelift last year, Jaguar has updated the styling significantly with sleeker headlights and taillights. The F-Type looks like a proper roadster with a long hood and sleek body lines that come together to give it a handsome design. The design is so distinctive, you wouldn't mistake it for anything else.
The new LED headlights at the front, combined with the bigger grille give it a sleek look, befitting of a modern sports car. The taillights are also slimmed down with a slightly redesigned rear end, complementing the rest of the design. Like the outgoing model with the V-8 engine, all models of the 2022 F-Type are also expected to get quad-tipped dual exhausts.

All models also get bigger 20-inch wheels as standard with a staggered tire setup. Like the outgoing model, we can expect plenty of optional packages to improve the looks further. While the Jaguar F-Type is a size bigger than both the Audi TTRS and Porsche Cayman, it is still dwarfed by the Chevrolet Corvette with a long 107.2-inch wheelbase.

Not only the 2022 model of the F-Type, but even the 2021 version is yet to be tested for safety by the NHTSA and the IIHS. Although, there is no questioning the quality and reliability of this midsize coupe. For 2022, all models come standard with safety features like a rear camera, front and rear parking aid, and LED headlights. So buyers should rest assured that their safety is well thought-out by Jaguar.

The F-Type has always deserved that V-8 under its hood ever since its launch, and thankfully, the 2022 model makes it as accessible as ever. With excellent dynamics and plenty of performance right from the base P450 model, the new F-Type is expected to be even better than before. However, prices have gone up significantly because of the updated powertrains, leaving it vulnerable to modern competitors like the new Chevrolet Corvette and Porsche 718, which are better sports cars overall.
