The 2022 Kia Carnival is the Korean giant's all-new MPV which replaces the outgoing 2021 Sedona. Available for sale at a starting price of $32,300, the Carnival is mainly sold in four trims- LX, EX, SX, and SX Prestige. The interior of the Carnival is now also more spacious and practical as it is longer and wider than the outgoing model.
The 2022 Kia Carnival is the Korean giant's all-new minivan which replaces the outgoing 2021 Sedona. Available for sale at a starting MSRP of $32,300, the Carnival is now sold in 5 trim configurations with the LXS and SX Prestige trims now adding to the previous 3 trims. It is still powered by the same 3.5L V6 engine but power has been bumped to 295 horsepower as opposed to 276 hp from last year. Despite the increase in power, the Kia Carnival 2022's fuel economy stays on par with its rivals.
The interior of the Carnival is now also more spacious and practical as it is longer and wider than the outgoing model. It also packs Kia's Drive Wise suite of latest driver-assist features, therefore making a statement of the modern family van. The Sedona replacement still isn't as luxurious as the Chrysler Pacifica, or as frugal as the hybrid Toyota Sienna, but it does offer a feature-loaded cabin to buyers at an affordable price tag.
The 2022 Kia Carnival comes loaded with features to the brim but opting for the mid-range EX trim adds plenty more value to buyers. At an MSRP of $37,800, it adds more tech, more creature comforts, and more driver safety aids.Â
As a premium and comfortable minivan, the EX trim is our pick among the lot. This trim packs in most of the premium necessities like tri-zone automatic climate control, hands-free power tailgate, wireless charging, navigation, etc. that one would expect at this price and range. A rear-seat entertainment system is available for $1,500 extra.

The all-new 2022 Kia Carnival minivan provides plenty of space and a comfortable ride, and it’s loaded with technology- Cars.U.SNews
The 2022 Kia Carnival is available in four different trims to choose from: LX, EX, SX, and SX Prestige. Pricing starts at $32,300 for the LX model and spirals all the way up to $46,300 for the top-tier SX Prestige trim. These prices exclude the destination charge of $1,175. Only FWD configuration is available. The ascending features list is perhaps the only aspect that segregates all four trims of the Carnival.
Talking features though, even the base Carnival comes nicely bundled with captain chairs at the back, the latest connectivity suite, and a plethora of standard driver-aids. The LX trim can also be paired with LX Seat Package which increases seating capacity to 8. It also adds synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, power-adjustable driver's seat, blind-spot monitor, and parallel park assist.

The Kia Carnival is thoroughly average in terms of performance- Motor1
The brand-new 2022 Kia Carnival carries over the same 3.5-liter V6 engine of the outgoing Sedona. However, compared to the Sedona, the Carnival gets a 14 hp power bump pushing the total output to 290 hp and 262 lb-ft. of torque. All that juice is sent to the front wheels through an 8-speed standard automatic transmission. The V6 feels at home around city speeds with a good low-end punch and smooth shifts from the 8-speed auto.
Despite significant changes made to the new Carnival, the driving experience isn't exactly night and day compared to the old one and that's no bad thing. However, the Carnival feels more car-like due to its lower center of gravity and longer wheelbase. Its soft suspension tuning is really good for preserving ride comfort. The lightweight steering is mostly numb but offers good precision and maneuverability. The Carnival also has ample grip and composure around corners.
MPVs aren't meant to be outrageous but when it comes to performance, the Carnival can do the 0-60 MPH sprint in 7.5 seconds and reaches the quarter-mile milestone in 15.7 seconds. At higher speeds, the engine does sound a bit strained but it doesn't feel exhausted at all. The brakes provide good stopping power consistently. There is a little nose dive during the braking action. In the brake test, the Carnival took 125 feet to halt from 60 MPH.

Despite a small power edge, the mighty Carnival is not as swift as the Honda Odyssey. The Toyota Sienna is the only hybrid vehicle in this competition. The brand has focused more on efficiency instead of performance. Meanwhile, the Chrysler Pacifica's performance is very similar to the Carnival but it is the priciest among the bunch.
The Kia Carnival closely matches segment rivals in this area- Carbuzz
The fuel economy of the Kia Carnival matches most of its rivals. EPA estimates that it can return 19 MPG in the city, 26 MPG on a highway, and 22 MPG combined. There is a slight improvement in contrast to Sedona's 21 MPG combined economy. Although these MPG ratings are good, the lack of a hybrid model is still to think about.
Together with a 19.0-gallon fuel tank, the Carnival is also good enough for 361 miles in the city and 494 miles on a highway. In combined form, it can drive up to 418 miles before visiting the gas station for refueling. Therefore, the Carnival is a suitable MPV for long trips with family or for a short vacation getaway with friends.

While the Carnival is as efficient as its gasoline-powered rivals but not as good as the Toyota Sienna for sure. With a hybrid powertrain, the Sienna returns an overwhelming 36 MPG combined fuel economy which is way ahead of that of its rivals. Moreover, the Carnival's highway driving range is way less than the Honda Odyssey and Chrysler Pacifica.
The Carnival's dashboard and front-seat area are both more modern and accommodating than the outgoing Sedona's- CarAndDriver
On the inside, the 2022 Kia Carnival takes a big step forward in terms of space, upscale materials, and available features, compared to the Sedona. Everything inside the cabin feels new, starting with its new dashboard which looks forward and upscale. It has a good height to it whereas the gloss black insert aptly pronounces its width. You also get soft-touch materials on the upper part of the dash as well as armrests and door panels.
The latter duo also gets soft leather wrapping in the higher models. The gear shifter comes in a rotary-style knob, and the center console looks more accommodating as well. A wide range of upholstery choices is available depending on the trim level and it can seat up to 8 passengers. The seats offer a fair amount of comfort and support. Since it is a Kia, plenty of creature comforts are on offer. The Carnival has adult-friendly space in all three rows.Â

You will be further greeted with 145.1 cu-ft. after folding the second-row seats. To increase practicality, you can even remove the second-row seats. For infotainment needs, the Carnival gets a crisp 8-inch standard touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and six-speaker audio.
The EX unlocks a larger 12.3-inch screen and a wireless charging station while the SX adds rear-seat entertainment. The interface is fairly intuitive but not the quickest at times. There is a good mix of physical buttons and knobs for quick access. As for graphics, they are clean and good to look at. The SX Prestige also brings in a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 12-speaker Bose premium audio. Some other cabin highlights are:
The handsome Carnival wears some SUV drag.- The Car Connection
The 2022 Kia Carnival looks dramatically better than the outgoing Sedona, and Kia's styling changes attempt to reimagine the van as a more SUV-like car. The Carnival sits on Kia's new N3 platform and is longer and wider than its predecessor. At the front, the Carnival ditches its angular hood with a new upright and sharper stance. The new and larger mesh front grille seamlessly integrates with the new slimmer LED headlamps for a sharper and modern front fascia.
The smoother side profile does look elegant but the strong shoulder line running through its length and the deeper lower side-body creases simply add to its appeal. The large 19' inch wheels in the higher models along with black roof rails make the Carnival look more mature than its rivals. The rear glass further blends in with the side glass area for an elegant yet premium appeal which is further enhanced by the slim LED tail lamp strip.

Pitched alongside its rivals, well, the Carnival still has a similar footprint as its rivals but gets a very distinct presentation. The Honda Odyssey's short wheelbase helps it to burn out quickly on the road. Due to the hybrid powertrain, the Toyota Sienna weighs more than its rivals. Except for the ground clearance, the Chrysler Pacifica's dimensions are similar to the Carnival. Some other exterior features are:
Even the entry LX has comprehensive safety features- Forbes
While the NHTSA is yet to crash-test the 2022 Kia Carnival, the exotic MPV did receive a 'Top Safety Pick' designation from IIHS. Well, that's significantly better than the 'Good' overall IIHS rating of the 2021 Sedona. No wonders here though as the 2022 Carnival is now based on a new stiffer platform with better structural rigidity.
Wider and longer than its predecessor, the 2022 Carnival also has better stability than the Sedona. Furthermore, it's much better in terms of safety and driver-assistance features than the outgoing model. As standard, the 2022 Carnival gets a bunch of advanced driver-assistance features bundled under the Kia Drive Wise safety suite. These include
The Honda Odyssey has been ruling the minivan segment for ages. It offers solid performance and more cargo capacity than the Carnival. The latter comes loaded with plenty of features, decent fuel economy, and a spacious cabin with premium build quality. Smartphone integration is not included in the base trim of the Odyssey which is its main drawback. A long warranty program makes the Carnival a comprehensive choice over the Odyssey.
The Chrysler Pacifica is the more expensive offering amongst the two, but it offers plenty more features as standard. The availability of an AWD system is a big plus and it also returns better MPG figures on the highway. It also gets wireless Apple CarPlay while its second-row seats can fold into the floor. That said, the Carnival has an energetic engine and more cargo space. Thus, it's a matter of preference, though Carnival sounds value for money.
The Toyota Sienna does not have a strong performance to offer but it has impressive fuel efficiency ratings, thanks to its standard hybrid powertrain. While the Sienna offers a pretty spacious seating room for the occupants, the Carnival offers a larger trunk. Both the MPVs have earned top safety ratings too. The Kia is also the better looking of the two and comes at a lower price tag, making it the preferred choice between the two.
With fewer than 6,000 Sedonas sold in 2020, the arrival of this next-gen Kia Carnival to America this time around seems to bring some good luck to the Korean carmaker. However, the Telluride sales clearly depict the multi-fold rise in Kia consumers but there's nothing like the easy-driving character and efficient practicality and packaging of a minivan.
