The much-awaited 2022 Kia EV6 has finally been revealed which marks the start of the carmaker’s line-up of purely electric cars. Being an all-new model, the EV6 is Kia’s first dedicated electric vehicle. While the exact prices of the trims have not been revealed yet, the bookings for the First Edition Model have opened with a price tag of $58,000. The EV6 First Edition is a limited production model and Kia will only produce 1500 units of the same.
The 2022 Kia EV6 is a futuristic-looking crossover that now expands your choices and options in the all-electric car segment. With its broad trim configuration, the least powerful EV6 will be able to push out 167 horsepower while therange-topping GT trims can produce 576 horsepower. It aims to provide one of the quickest charging technologies currently available and hence it has been built on an 800-volt architecture. To boost initial sales, Kia has even bundled a free preferred gift offer on the booking of its First Edition model. With a minimum expected range of 300 miles, it will go head to head with the Ford Mustang Mach-e and the smaller, Hyundai Kona Electric.

The 2022 Kia EV6 will be powered by short as well as long-range battery packs. For starters, theKia EV6 will offer a 58.0-kWh battery pack which will be paired to a single electric motor, mounted on the rear axle. This combination will produce a mere 167 horsepower. The larger 77.4-kWh battery pack has been reserved for the all-wheel-drive version of the EV6. It will be able to produce 313 horsepower and shoot the EV from zero to 60 mph in about 5.1 seconds. For the performance craving users, the 576-hp GT Trim will be available that can do the same in just 3.5 seconds.
The EV6 is estimated to run for about 300 miles on a single charge with the long-range battery pack. Thanks to the 800-volt architecture, the battery pack can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes, according to the carmaker. Of course, this will require you to charge from a 350-kW fast charger. The default charger provided by Kia will be an 11-kW charger that can charge the battery pack from 10 to 100 percent in 7 hours. However, this is only possible if you plug it into a Level 2 outlet.

The 2022 Kia EV6 will go up against rivals that have existed in the market for a while now. However, Kia has offered more performance-focused powertrain options with the package. Thus, while its price tag will be on the higher side, it will offer the best range as well as power figures. It will be followed by the Ford Mustang Mach-e that is currently doing quite well in the EV market.
With its larger battery pack, the Kia EV6 is also expected to offer better mileage. It is expected to offer 12 MPGe in the city, 102 MPGe on the highway, and 112 combined MPGe. While these figures are certainly better than its rivals, these are no official figures. As the EV6 is yet to arrive at the dealerships, its real-world mileage should be looked at with a bit of skepticism. Nonetheless, it is sure to offer excellent MPG figures.

As can be seen, the Hyundai Kona continues to provide the best MPGe figures in its class. It is more focused on extending the range rather than offering the best performance for the price. However, there is no denying the fact that the Kia EV6 will still have an edge in terms of range due to its larger battery pack.
While the2022 Kia EV6 is a futuristic-looking car on the outside, on the inside, it is more conventional. Still, the interior design remains impressive with its high-tech digitized dashboard. Being very high-tech the cabin remains very practical with a floating center console along with ample storage spaces to store your small belongings. The twin-spoke steering wheels offer a two-tone treatment that adds to the sophisticated touch. Talking of the seating, the front seats, as well as the second-row seats, offer excellent support.Â
Being as long as the Kia Telluride with only two-row seating, the EV6 is quite generous in terms of space. Kia is known to offer good quality attractive interior at an affordable price and the same can be said for the Kia EV6. The EV6 gets a 12.0-inch touchscreen display with a 12.0-inch digital gauge cluster. It not only offers Apple CarPlay, Android Auto as standard, but can also receive over the air (OTA) updates. In addition to that, it also gets wireless smartphone charging and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Kia has not provided any official stats when it comes to interior. However, its long wheelbase and flat floorboard translate into acres of room to stretch out. In terms of cargo space as well, the Kia EV6 comes out at the top with the Ford Mustang Mach-e providing slightly more space to store your luggage. The Hyundai Kona offers the least space on the inside and also feels the most outdated.Â
The design of the Kia EV6 is hard to find faults with. It looks quite contemporary and can easily grab eyeballs in the sea of regular-looking EVs like the Hyundai Kona. The design is undeniably evolutionary with sharp cuts and creases dominating the overall exterior. At the front, it gets a triangular headlight that stretches out to the fenders with a low-dip nose. At the rear, the single slab tail light positioned above the lift-gate gives it quite a bold stance. Its overall design is a sweet amalgamation of a crossover, SUV, and hatchback.

In terms of the dimensions, Kia has not revealed it all, officially. However, it is as long as the Telluride with its corporate sibling, the Hyundai Ioniq, offering an even longer wheelbase. In terms of road presence, no electric crossover in its segment can still beat the Ford Mustang Mach-e. Key Exterior features shall include:
The 2022 Kia EV6 offers a host of active and passive safety features. Kia has given it a lot of techs to safeguard its passengers. However, autonomous driving is still not on the books. Kia might add it later but currently, it has not showcased any plans. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety have not crash-tested the Kia EV6 yet. Standard safety features expected on the 2022 Kia EV 6include:
2022 Kia EV6 vs 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E
Amongst the Kia and Ford, the newly introduced EV6 is the more sought-after option, and leads over the Mustang Mach-E in almost all the practical aspects. It gets an all-electric range of 300 miles, which is the highest in the segment, yet, it delivers the most potent performance and quickly accelerates to the 60mph mark in just about 5.3 seconds. Even in terms of build, the Kia EV6 looks fierce and sports an ergonomic and well-defined cabin with latest tech. The only thing it misses out on, is the stature that is attached to the Mustang name tag, but when the package is as solid as the Kia, you cannot stand to refuse.
2022 Kia EV6 vs 2021 Hyundai Kona Electric
Compared to its sibling, the Hyundai Kona, the Kia EV6 presents itself to be the better option. It gets considerably higher power on the tap of a pedal and despite its acceleration prowess, it turns out to be the most efficient option in the segment. Additionally, its built keeping in mind family hauling requirements, and comes with better rear seat space and a more practical trunk. Over the Hyundai Kona Electric, the EV6 also has a better looking fascia and at price that falls in a similar ballpark, Kia takes the throne for the best EV SUV.
The 2022 Kia EV6 is quite a practical as well as a capable electric vehicle. Kia has tried its best to differentiate it from the rest of the Crossover EVs in its class. It is arguably the most modern-looking Kia the world has ever seen. With its 800-volt architecture and a 515hp GT trim, the EV6 is certainly going to be quite a desirable pick in its class. However, while the exterior is quite evolutionary, the interior is not very impressive. Still, with a $7,500 EV tax credit, the EV6 is certainly going to be an eclectic model worth waiting for.
