Overall Rating
Land Rover doesn’t have any budget-friendly SUVs as all they know is how to make a premium vehicle that can move around your people in sheer opulence or do some serious off-roading; all in one.
Land Rover doesn’t have any budget-friendly SUVs as all they know is how to make a premium vehicle that can move around your people in sheer opulence or do some serious off-roading; all in one. Along those lines, the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport stands in between the compact SUV, Evoque and the full-size luxury chariot, the Range Rover. But this doesn’t mean that Land Rover has skipped chapters on this one. Land Rover is known for their high-end luxury vehicles and the Range Rover Sport too, comes with very similar luxury features on the inside.

The HSE Silver edition trim is the one we will suggest to you. If you crave serious V8 power then get the HSE Dynamic which has all the features of the SE trim but with a bigger engine and better suspension system.

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport comes in quite a lot of trim levels but most of them get to add on some extra features over the other; they are more like optional packages. The base trim SE gets all the comfort features like power-adjustable leather seats, dual-zone climate control, etc. The HSE trim gets better wheels, heated and ventilated seats, and a quad-zone climate control system, and an upgraded sound system. The HST trim gets a tuned engine with more power and some exclusive design elements on the outside and inside.Â
The HSE Dynamic trim which mostly builds upon the SE trim features will get you a 5.0L, supercharged V8 engine, air suspension, and some extra safety features. The Autobiography trim as you all know is the topmost in terms of luxury and will add soft closing doors and more adjustment options for the seats. The SVR and SVR Carbon edition trims are sportier variants with upgraded brakes, sports-tuned air suspension, and sporty front seats while the Carbon Edition adds on Carbon fiber exterior and interior trims. These trims are different cars in themselves and they will be reviewed separately.

Which Trim should you buy?
The HSE Silver edition trim is the one we will suggest to you. If you crave serious V8 power then get the HSE Dynamic which has all the features of the SE trim but with a bigger engine and better suspension system.
The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport will come with two engine options along with their up-tuned variants. The base turbocharged 3.0L Inline-6 engine comes with a little electric assistance and produces 355 hp of power and 365 lb-ft of torque. A tuned variant of the same engine produces 395 hp & 406 lb-ft of torque on the HST trim. The 5.0L supercharged V-8 engine available on the HSE Dynamic and above trims produces 518 hp & 461 lb-ft of torque.
All trims of the Range Rover Sport come with an 8-speed automatic transmission and 4WD drivetrain as standard. The inline-6 engine might seem slow if you see the on-paper acceleration figures but keep in mind that it is a boxy SUV with not so much aerodynamic design and still performs pretty well. The supercharged V8 engine on the higher trims however is the real screamer as it reaches 60 MPH in just 5.0 seconds.
The 2022 Range Rover Sport is a good alternative for the standard Range Rover as it delivers a fun driving experience overall. The steering feels accurate and makes us feel like driving a much smaller and sportier vehicle compared to its size and weight. Thanks to the standard air-suspension setup, the ride quality is excellent. The sportier trim HST will handle a little bit better due to adaptive suspension and 20-inch wheels. This is rather more important as those 20-inch wheels would have made the ride jittery on rough surfaces. On highways, the 2022 Range Rover Sport is nothing short of a yacht with sublime ride quality.
Just like every Range Rover, the 2022 Range Rover Sport as well truly is an adventure machine. However, most of us will never have the guts to take this SUV onto the gravel where small flying stone chips might scratch up the expensive paint. The terrain response system, crawl control, and low-high gear ratios, everything works in tandem; all we have to do is concentrate on the trail and these systems do take care of the rest. The 11-inch ground clearance might prove helpful here too. Combine this with the insane water wading abilities the 2022 Range Rover Sport is unlike any other SUV out there.
The standard braking setup on the 2022 Range Rover Sport will come with 14.3 inch and 13.8-inch rotors at the front and rear respectively on the base trim. On the other hand, the HST trim gets better performance brakes with bigger discs. There isn’t any stopping distance data available yet but these brakes should do a decent job.

The Range Rover Sport has the most power in its base variants but is just a tad bit slower compared to the rivals. The Maserati Levante and Audi Q8 both have better acceleration thanks to the curvy design, they cut through the air easily compared to the Rover Sport. All cars in the competition sport an 8-speed automatic transmission unit and come with AWD drivetrain as standard with the exception of the Range Rover Sport which comes with a 4WD drivetrain configuration that is also a testament to its off-roading prowess.
The 2022 Range Rover Sport gets mild electric assistance and how much that has helped is difficult to say but the base inline-6 engine is pretty efficient among all its rivals. It delivers 19 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway. The V8 engine will reduce these figures by 2-3 MPG. The 27.6-gallon fuel tank is the biggest in its segment and that puts its driving range beyond what rivals can think to offer.

The 2022 Maserati Levante is the least efficient of the lot and even gets the smallest fuel tank. The Porsche and the Audi both have on-par MPG ratings compared to Range Rover Sport. Land Rover has done a great job of keeping the SUV with the most possible power and making it as efficient as possible.
The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport has an impressive cabin design and layout in the segment and keeps it simple no matter the trim opted for. The cabin feels modern and full of tech yet the dashboard is very clean and clutter-free. We do have multiple touch screens for all the utility purposes and that’s the primary aspect of this cabin which makes it look so modern. The material choice and quality are as expected, top-notch; every single body panel inside the cabin gets covered in premium leather.
The 2022 Range Rover Sport is almost as big as its full-size brother and can seat only 5 passengers. So one can expect tons of space on such a huge real estate. You can opt for a third row but that will just make things awkward for those fellows in the back which is not a good thing to do in a luxury SUV. The seats are well-bolstered and are 12-way power-adjustable on the base SUV and it gets better and better on higher trims. The second row can house 2 passengers with ease with enough room to stretch out your legs.
The SUV gets a 10-inch touch screen for entertainment and another touch screen for the climate control and seat functions. The base SUV comes with a 13-speaker sound system while the HST gets a 19-speaker system. To make this more special a 23 speaker suRange Roveround sound system is available at $4,300. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay both are standard along with the usual features like Bluetooth and navigation. The only sad thing about this whole system is the startup time and it hasn’t been solved yet.

The Range Rover Sport is the most spacious SUV among all. The Porsche Cayenne does have ample space on the inside but the roof design might make some passengers uncomfortable, but not all. The Maserati Levante as well sports a similar design to the Porsche but it provides better headroom on the second row.
Some of the standout interior features of the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport are:
The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport won’t be having any design changes for the year except for the very initial models. Land Rover hasn't changed their design significantly and it has been done so perfectly that it doesn’t even feel old yet. The overall shape is boxy yet it suits the Range Rover much better than any other SUVs on the market. The sleek Matrix LED headlights with those distinct DRLs at the front has been the iconic exterior element for the Range Rover for a few years now.
The designers have added some fake vents over the fender to give a sporty look as doing anything more aggressive would have messed up the already iconic design altogether. There is a nice symmetry on the side profile as the beltline divides the upper and lower portions of the SUV. At the rear ,things are pretty simplistic but that aluminum finished exhaust tips give out the sporty vibes.

The 2022 Range Rover Sport is a wide and long SUV and we felt that while driving it but that’s what makes it have a great road presence. The Maserati Levante is one of the prettiest SUVs in the group while Porsche Cayenne is still trying to attract buyers with their sports car-infused SUV design language. The 2022 Maserati Levante is a serious sports SUV and though it can’t really do much off-roading it still gets a decent ground clearance.
Some standout exterior features of the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport are:
The crash test agencies don’t test expensive vehicles, so let’s just move on to what features we have. The aluminum chassis on the 2022 Range Rover Sport will do just fine as it saves weight yet stays strong just like the steel chassis. Range Rover Sport comes with numerous active safety features as standard to keep your people safe inside so let’s take a look at what we have.
Some of the standout safety features of the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport:
The 2022 Audi Q8 and the 2022 Range Rover Sport both are different from each other. The Q8 is a sporty, modern SUV that’s more fun to drive while the Range Rover Sport is a family SUV that can cruise on highways relentlessly. Audi Q8 offers a better space on the inside overall. The interior of both the SUVs is great, while the Audi uses too many glossy panels inside the Range Rover Sport is dressed up in premium leather. Land Rover returns a better fuel economy and has a much better driving range compared to the Audi. The Q8 is priced lower than the Range Rover Sport and for the money, Audi is offering a solid sporty SUV with modern looks and great handling.
The Porsche Cayenne is a true-performance SUV that handles much better than the Range Rover Sport. While the Range Rover Sport is more equipped to tackle harsh terrains which a Porsche can’t do. Other than these differences both the SUVs are pretty similar. Yes, the Range Rover Sport is much better in terms of interior comfort. Both SUVs are on the same page in the fuel economy department as well. If a serious on-road performer is what you need then the Porsche Cayenne is pretty unbeatable.
The Maserati Levante is a great SUV with superb handling and engine sounds. Though it comes with a Twin-Turbo V6 it growls like a natural V8. On the inside, the SUV is luxurious for the most part except for the switchgear. Due to its design and size, the SUV lacks a little passenger space but it would be fine for most people. The performance it lets out is really insane and thus, it takes a hit on the fuel economy. Overall, the 2022 Levante is a great Italian SUV but the absurd pricing will make you think twice.
The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is a good middle-ground for someone who wants to drive in a Land Rover, wants ample space but can’t spend the top dollar on the bigger brother. It is filled with all the luxury amenities and the passenger space inside is just amazing. Pricing used to be a concern for the Range Rover but recently the rivals have caught up and now it doesn’t feel bad to spend the money on the 2022 Range Rover Sport.
