The 2022 Lexus NX 250 comes with a lot of changes and improvements. The 2022 Lexus NX 250 gets an all-new Lexus Interface infotainment system that promises an improved UI (user interface) experience. Lexus has also gone bonkers in terms of safety this year and has provided the NX 250 with Lexus Safety System 3.0. As for the exterior, the looks have been updated, but only eagle-eyed ones can spot the difference from the front.
The Lexus NX 250 is available as a standalone variant in two configurations and for us, the all-wheel drivetrain makes for a better option. Though it charges a premium of $1,500 over its competitors, the NX 250 AWD bestows a supple ride quality, making it a practical proposition.

The Lexus NX 250 is available as a standalone variant in two configurations and for us, the all-wheel drivetrain makes for a better option. Though it charges a premium of $1,500 over its competitors, the NX 250 AWD bestows a supple ride quality, making it a practical proposition.
The 2022 Lexus NX 250 shares its powertrain with the Toyota RAV4. Thus this Lexus NX 250 gets a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The setup is good enough for 203 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. As per Lexus, the 2022 Lexus NX 250 can do 0-60 mph in 8.2 seconds. These figures would have been gullible had it been for the half-priced Toyota RAV4, but for a forty grand Lexus, this is simply unacceptable.

As for the rivals, all of them get a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine under their hood. The Acura RDX puts out the highest power and torque figures. It also clocks the fastest 0-60 mph in 6.4 seconds. While the BMW X1 covers the fastest quarter-mile in 14.1 seconds. The Volvo XC40 remains the least powerful and the slowest car in this comparison.
The only thing the Toyota RAV4 derived 2.5-liter inline-4 engine is good at is the fuel economy figures. Thus as per Lexus, the 2022 Lexus NX 250 will return a gas mileage of 27 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway, and 30 mpg combined. The Lexus NX 250 gets a 14.5-gallon fuel tank and offers 391 miles of range in the city and 493 miles of range on the highway.

Only Volvo XC40 is the one that has a similar gas mileage in the city and combined as the Lexus NX 250, while the Volvo XC40 returns the highest 35 mpg on the highway. As for the Acura RDX and BMW X1, they return a far lower gas mileage of 23 mpg in the city and 26 mpg combined.
The interior of the 2022 Lexus NX 250 witnesses the most distinguishable changes. Lexus says that the new cabin has been designed with a focus on being driver-centric. This is very evident with the sharply angled center stack towards the driver. The highlight of the cabin is the big 9.8-inch touchscreen which gets the all-new Lexus Interface with virtual assistant and over-the-air (OTA) updates functionality. Lexus has made tall claims about the functionality of this setup, but nothing can be said about how it performs until we get our hands on it.
Lexus also in the press note mentioned that they have reworked the cabin to ensure better rear space and cargo space, but hasn’t shared the exact figures yet, so we have to wait until we get those to tell you about the difference. To conclude, the changes are mainly concentrated in and around the dash, and the rest of the cabin has the same Lexus-like treatment to it.

As we have no official figures of the interior space, so we can’t make a comparison here. Nevertheless among the three rivals, the Acura RDX is not only the most spacious but also has the biggest boot of 31.1 cubic feet. Compared to that, the BMW X1 offers 27.1 cubic feet of boot space, while the Volvo XC40 has only 20.7 cubic feet of boot space on offer. Highlights of the interior features include:
The exterior looks and design of the 2022 Lexus NX 250 have received subtle yet significant changes. Starting with the front fascia, you get sleeker and one-piece headlight units. The spindle grille has been redone, and the upper portion now aligns with the bonnet crease to create a symmetric look. Lower down, the fog light housing and the side vents have been merged into one, and honestly, this goes well in giving the aggressive looks to the Lexus NX.
The rear profile has the most recognizable changes done to the exterior. The Lexus logo has gone, and instead, you get ‘LEXUS’ written in bold and with wide space in between the letters. The taillight stretches from one end to the other with a horizontal bar connecting the tail lamps on either side. Except for these, the side profile features new creases and lines. The side profile look kind of busy with all those lines running through the side.

*2021 Lexus NX data taken for reference
Dimensions wise the Lexus NX was never a big crossover, but with the recent redesign, it has grown in size as per Lexus. While we don’t have the exact figures, we will look at the 2021 dimension figures to get an idea. The Acura RDX happens to be the longest and the widest crossover in this comparison. While the Lexus NX 250 and the Volvo XC40 are the tallest measuring 67-inches in height among all. Highlights of the exterior include:
The 2022 Lexus NX 250 is based on the all-new Lexus GA-K platform and comes with Lexus Safety System+ 3.0. The latter adds safety features like left oncoming traffic detection with emergency braking, right/left pedestrian/cyclist detection with emergency braking, emergency steer assist, pre-collision detection system, and radar-based cruise control. Apart from this, the Lexus NX 250 also gets other standard safety features that are standard in the segment. That said, since the Lexus NX 250 is an all-new car, neither NHTSA nor IIHS has crash-tested it yet. Highlights of the safety features include:
Acura’s RDX is undoubtedly the most powerful option available in the segment and its acceleration is evidence of the fact. When pitted against the Lexus NX 250, Acura’s SUV is a better and pragmatic option. While not as efficient as the Lexus, the RDX SH-AWD comes with a sizable fuel tank that aids its overall range. Additionally, it comes with a capacious cabin and boasts a practical trunk size that is the largest in the segment. Though it is slightly more expensive than the NX 250, the ability to be a perfect family allows the Acura to gain ascendancy in the segment.
Despite being an entry-level option, the BMW X1 resonates with an ostentatious aura and reflects German craftsmanship. It is in all ways superior to the Lexus NX 250. While a bit less efficient, the X1’s punchy acceleration and tread-anywhere ride quality allow it to shine in the segment. Additionally, BMW’s subcompact SUV gets adorned with the best quality materials, uses an intuitive infotainment system, and is packed to the hilt with class-leading safety features. And by boasting a diminutively lower price tag, the X1 is our pick amongst the two.
Perhaps, the only competitor that fails to impress when pitted against the Lexus is the 2021 Volvo XC40. In all practical aspects, the NX 250 is the better option to go for. It is reasonably quick, has better space on the inside, and while the cargo capacity is not yet known, we expect it to be better than the Volvo’s, which is currently placed at the bottom of the barrel. While both SUVs are easy to drive and are almost equally efficient, the NX 250’s spacious and tranquil cabin, and revised styling help it to emerge victorious here.
The 2022 Lexus NX 250 has been launched, and the teaser is available on the website. The sales of the 2022 Lexus NX 250 are expected to commence by this fall. The 2022 Lexus NX 250 is a Toyota RAV4 masquerading with a Lexus veil, and if you want to buy this crossover, then either choose the powerful NX 300 or from the hybrid and the plug-in hybrid NX trim. The NX 250 is just not there yet when pitted against the likes of Acura, BMW, and Volvo.
