Based on the same underpinnings as the Lexus IS series, the Lexus RC F is a high-performance model of the standard RC Coupe that gets the massive V8 found in larger models like the LC500.
Based on the same underpinnings as the Lexus IS series, the Lexus RC F is a high-performance model of the standard RC Coupe that gets the massive V8 found in larger models like the LC500. Despite several facelifts over the years, the RC remains mostly unchanged since its launch back in 2014, and it continues for 2022.
Including the revived Fuji Speedway trim, the RC F is available in a total of just 2 models.
Even the base trim is very well equipped and gets features like 19-inch forged aluminum wheels, launch control, adaptive suspension dampers, limited-slip rear differential, and a lot of luxuries like dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation, keyless entry, and a 10-speaker Lexus Enform infotainment system.
Being a Lexus, the RC F is also loaded with plenty of safety and driver assistance features like automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and more.
Upgrading to the Fuji Speedway edition adds several performance upgrades like 19-inch ultralight alloy wheels, carbon-ceramic brakes, a carbon-fiber hood, and a titanium exhaust system. You also get several visual improvements like red synthetic suede interior trims, carbon-fiber trims, and exclusive paint options.

Which trim should you buy?
Since the Fuji Speedway edition costs substantially more than the standard model and only includes features that are beneficial on a track, the base RC F is the one to go for. It includes several features like 19-inch alloy wheels, adaptive suspension, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, a 10-speaker audio system, and more.
Since most owners will use the RC F as a comfortable cruiser, the Premium package is recommended for features like leather seats, a heated steering wheel with power adjustability, heated and ventilated front seats, and more.
The biggest party piece of the 2022 Lexus RC F continues to be the massive 5L naturally aspirated V8 under the hood. In both models, the engine outputs 472 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque, which is commendable for a naturally aspirated model. But, performance is just about adequate compared to rivals, all of which use forced induction to bump up the figures, resulting in better drivability.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission. Being a naturally aspirated unit, power delivery is instant and the RC F sprints to 60 MPH in just 4.1 seconds, and crosses the quarter-mile in 12.7 seconds. The Fuji Speedway edition is a fraction of a second faster thanks to a lighter chassis and better aerodynamics.
Like most modern sports cars, the RC F also gets different drive-modes to change the way power is delivered, helping it become a comfortable cruiser or a track weapon depending on the situation.
Another big advantage with the V8 is the glorious soundtrack as you rev it all the way to its 7,100 RPM redline, an amazing feat for such a large engine setup.

While performance is similar across the board, the Lexus RC F stands out with its naturally aspirated engine that offers a better response and lets out a glorious soundtrack when rung hard. But, if we consider real-world performance, the Audi RS 5 with all-wheel-drive and a twin-turbocharged setup is the quickest, followed by the BMW M4.
To keep the heavy RC F on its toes, Lexus has included several electronic gizmos like a vertical G-sensor for VDIM, which is an integrated handling software by Toyota, rear torque-vectoring differential with three operating modes, adaptive suspension, and more.
You also get grippier summer tires with the 19-inch forged aluminum wheels. While all this might look good on paper, it doesn't translate to real-world performance, and the RC F will struggle around a racetrack when pitted against its rivals. The steering is well-weighted and precise. Although handling is somewhat compromised, the RC F more than makes up for it with a sublime ride quality that lets it munch miles on the highway in comfort.
However, Lexus has managed to shave off around 177 pounds with the Track and Fuji Speedway edition to improve handling, and both of these models offer better response and quicker steering. All models continue to get a rear-wheel-drive configuration with no option for all-wheel-drive.
To offset the heavy curb weight, Lexus has equipped the 2022 RC F with upgraded brakes at both ends, and braking performance is adequate for a sports car. There is plenty of feedback through the pedals, and the RC F sheds weight quickly when the need arises. Upgrading to the Fuji Speedway edition will also add carbon-ceramic brakes with flashy red calipers.

With upgraded brakes on the F models, the RC F offers braking performance on par with class leaders like the Mercedes-AMG C 63 and Audi RS 5. However, it does fall behind ever so slightly when matched with the BMW M4. But, upgrading to the Track Edition model with standard carbon-ceramic brakes will turn the tides in favor of the Lexus.
One of the most notable shortcomings with the V8 engine is in the fuel efficiency department. The RC F returns just 16 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway, which is among the lowest in its class. But, its sizable fuel tank does offer usable range on the highway for longer journeys.

While efficiency has never been the Lexus RC F’s forte with a massive V8 engine, it is still reasonably efficient and can match the BMW M4 in terms of efficiency. However, both the Mercedes-AMG C 63 and Audi RS 5 can travel a lot longer and are easier on the pocket.
The RC F has always had an upper hand in terms of comfort and luxury, and a large part of that is thanks to the plush and comfortable cabin.
While it is technically a four-seater, the rear seats are best reserved for shorter journeys owing to the limited legroom on offer. The overall design is reminiscent of all Lexus models with a clock in the middle and a recessed infotainment display.
The ergonomics are spot on and the front seat passengers with ample space and supportive seats that can be optioned with heating and ventilation functions. Going along with the sporty theme, the interiors also get some funky red coloring depending on options. Build quality is excellent and soft-touch materials cover most areas.
For the uninitiated, the RC F looks and feels more like a grand tourer than a sports car, and that may be the selling point for some. But, the biggest downside continues to be the limited cargo space on offer at just 10.1 cubic feet.

While it may look big from the outside, the Lexus RC F offers limited passenger space compared to all of its rivals, especially at the rear row. Based on their four-door counterparts, both the BMW M4 and Audi RS 5 offer a lot more space, followed closely by the Mercedes-AMG C 63. The BMW M4 also offers considerably more cargo space than all of its rivals.
Some of the standout interior features are as follows:
Lexus continues to offer their Enform infotainment system with the RC F that uses a 7-inch display and a touchpad interface for easier access. While the system is well equipped with all the latest features, it feels outdated with clunky menus and delayed responses.
Features like built-in navigation, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa integration, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, and more are available as standard along with a 10-speaker audio system. Customers can also upgrade to a 10.3-inch system for better usability.
Other notable options include integrated navigation and a premium Mark Levinson audio system.
Some of the highlights of the infotainment system are as follows:
While the design of the standard RC is a head-turner, it may not appeal to everyone. However, the RC-F certainly improves on it with several aggressive elements that look more pleasing and befitting of a modern sports car. The overall design has remained similar since the RC F launched back in 2014.
Typical Lexus design traits like the massive front grille, sleek headlights, and edgy shapes give the RC F a busy and sophisticated design. The wide stance and quad-outlet exhausts improve the rear-end design. Massive 19-inch forged aluminum wheels are also included as standard.
Upgrading to the Fuji Speedway edition will also add ultralight BBS alloy wheels, a carbon-fiber hood, titanium exhaust system, and red brake calipers.

Dimensionally, there is little to no difference between all four models. But, the BMW M4 is slightly bigger than the rest with the longest wheelbase. All three German options adopt a more elegant and simplistic design, while the Lexus stands out with plenty of curves and creases.
Some of the standout exterior features are as follows:
Lexus has always topped the list in terms of safety with an extensive suite of safety features available as standard. Based on the same underpinnings as the Lexus IS lineup, we can safely assume high scores for the RC F since it hasn't been through any safety tests by the NHTSA or the IIHS. However, the standard RC did receive "Good" scores in most of the IIHS safety tests.
The Lexus Safety System+ includes several driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Opting for the Premium package also adds parking sensors at both ends.
Some of the standout safety features are as follows:
The BMW has always been a superior handler to the Lexus RC F for quite a while now, especially in terms of dynamics and outright performance. Unlike the Lexus, the M4 uses a twin-turbocharged engine for better response and tractability. But, the Lexus has always scored for its glorious soundtrack and still remains one of the only naturally aspirated V8s in this class.
It must also be noted that the BMW M4 is one of the few remaining models that can be bought with a 6-speed manual transmission for maximum driver engagement. The BMW M4 also offers more practicality with considerably more interior and cargo space.
After a significant refresh, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 is back in the game with an updated powertrain and a slew of new features. The updates have also made the C 63 look and feel a lot more modern than the aging Lexus RC-F.
While both offer more or less the same handling characteristics, the C 63 still manages to feel tight when you push it hard, while the RC F will begin to fall apart unless you opt for the track edition.
Overall, if you want a comfortable cruiser that happens to have a V8 under the hood and stunning acceleration, the RC F is the better choice, while the AMG C 63 is best described as an all-rounder that sacrifices some comfort for performance.
Audi has always focused on balancing performance and practicality, and the RS 5 is no different. From its high-tech cabin to the potent all-wheel-drive powertrain, there's a lot to like about the RS 5.
Although, when pitted against the Lexus RC F, Audi’s V6 powertrain feels and sounds rather boring, the RS 5 is easily the quickest of the two, thanks to standard all-wheel-drive and a more potent engine. In terms of practicality, both are roughly the same.
Audi continues to impress with the amount of tech and features it offers, like its infotainment system which feels light-years ahead of the Lexus, with better usability and features. Overall, the Audi RS 5 continues to be a better all-rounder that offers better performance, handling, and features.
Despite the minimal updates, the 2022 Lexus RC F continues to be one of the most unique sports cars available in the market that can also double as a grand tourer with plenty of comforts, and supple ride quality. Its glorious V8 engine continues to be a selling point among competitors.
