The 2022 Lexus RX 450h is a standalone trim that sits just above the base RX 350 model and shares the majority of its features. While the base 350h trim starts at $47,795 for the AWD variant, the RX450h gains a premium and gets the MSRP to $49,095 for standard AWD and a slightly more powerful hybrid powertrain. The extended wheelbase RX 450hL is available with a $3,390 premium over the base trim but also features a third row of seats and a few additional features.
Lexus also offers a long list of optional packages to better spec your SUV. The affordable Premium package adds walnut or bamboo interior trims and memory functionality for just $480 while the Luxury package costs a whopping $3,810. Under the hood of the 2022 Lexus RX 450h, a 3.5L V6 is paired up with a couple of electric motors, one on each axle. These motors are powered by a 37-kWh nickel-metal-hydride battery pack that works together with the engine. This powertrain outputs a very healthy 308 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque that is sent to all four wheels as standard via a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The engine powers the front wheels solely while the dual-motor setup spins the rear wheels.
In the city, the powertrain is supremely comfortable and smooth with the battery being able to run the SUV in electric-only mode. Though the transmission is quick to respond, there is no surge of torque in spite of the electric setup. That being said, the vehicle dynamics of the car is soft and composed when driving sedately. Push it around the bends and the weight-shifting unsettles the ride. The light steering aids in maneuvering the SUV around the tight city lanes.
Though there is a decent amount of power and torque on offer, it isn't the greatest performer in the straight lines. While it performs better than the RX 350, the 6.6 seconds taken by the RX 450h for the 0-60 mph sprint and the 15.1 seconds taken to cover the quarter-mile are slow in terms of segment standards. That being said, Lexus has done a decent job in the towing department as the 2022 RX 450h can tug 3,500 lbs with relative ease.

The interior of the 2022 Lexus RX 450h has posh materials which include soft leather, soft plastics, and textured metallic & wood trims. The door panel is covered in NuLuxe upholstery and has beautiful contrast stitching done to it and can further be upgraded to semi-aniline leather via options and various packages available. Though the build quality is top-notch, the cabin isn't ergonomic as the radio knob is a bit of a stretch while the rotary controller isn't the easiest to control either.Â
The seats offer a good seating position and are comfortable & supportive as well. The second row feels comfortable too and has good knee room and headroom on offer. The front row has an ample amount of space and even the taller drivers will find it easy to find their perfect driving position. The 16 cu-ft of trunk space is where the Lexus falters as it isn't even close to the segment standards. Though, by folding down the rear seat, one can open up a maximum of 32.6 cu-ft of cargo space.Â

There is no doubt that the trunk capacity of the Rx 450h is the least in this comparison, but it does offer pretty spacious passenger quarters. It has the best legroom at the front and yet does not compromise on rear-seat space. The BMW X3 offers the best headroom and trunk space but has a tighter rear seat. The Lexus RX got a massive design update for the 2020 model year but after that, there have not been any significant changes made to the design. The 2022 Lexus RX 450h looks sharp and has a very striking edge to it. The front has very clean lines and the headlight culminates in the massive grille upfront. The rear bumper has a clean look with the exhaust pipes hidden comfortably under it. Tasteful chrome embellishments add to the premium appeal of the car.
The 18-inch alloy wheels look striking and the black wheel arches just add to the contrast. The powered tailgate adds convenience and the lip spoiler tries to give a sporty appeal to the SUV. The 8.2-inch ground clearance remains standard even with the larger optional 20-inch wheels. Lexus has added two new colors for the RX 450h which include Iridium and Cloudburst Grey, and both are offered with no additional costs.
