Overall Rating
The 2022 Lincoln Aviator is out in the market with no major changes over its 2021 model and starts at an MSRP of $51,465. Not a bad thing at all, since the 2022 Aviator offers a good value in the segment with its power, practicality, comfort, and plenty of available features.
The new 2022 Lincoln Aviator is out in the market now with some revised standard and optional features. For 2022, Lincoln reduces the pricing of the Aviator and adds a new Appearance package on the base model. The mid-level Reserve trim's optional driver-assistance package has been renamed to Co-Pilot360 1.5 Plus and it now gains more safety tech including front, rear, and side parking sensors. Shoppers also have two new colors available: Gilded Green and Bronze Smoke. Now available at Lincoln dealerships near you, the 2022 Lincoln Aviator starts at an MSRP of $51,465.
It was only last year when the Aviator received a new Grand Touring trim which brought in a hybrid powertrain adding up 100 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of more torque over the regular V-6 powered Aviator. But the regular Aviator is no slouch, with its 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, it feels a lot better and faster than the Ford Explorer on which it's based. Though the 2022 Aviator doesn't match the athletic driving dynamics of rivals such as Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90, it is a comfortable family-friendly SUV. The 2022 Lincoln Aviator offers the luxuries of the bigger Navigator and is easier to live with, thanks to its affordable dimensions.
We would suggest picking up the base 2022 Lincoln Aviator. At an MSRP of $51,465, the base 2022 Aviator packs in a good set of features for its asking price and gets you everything you ask for in an SUV at this price and segment.

"With a stylish exterior, a plush cabin, and a pair of potent powertrains, the 2022 Lincoln Aviator offers nearly the same luxury experience as the larger Navigator, but its more compact, mid-size dimensions make it easier to live with".- Car and Driver
The 2022 Aviator lineup includes three trims - Standard, Reserve, and Blacklabel. The Aviator is now cheaper to own, as Lincoln has cut the prices for the 2022 model year. The base 2022 Aviator starts at $51,465 and the price ranges up to $79,350 for the top-end Black label.

"We're big fans of Lincoln's brazen-faced approach to ride quality. You get the feeling that if an engineer were to mention the words "driver engagement," they'd be executed on the spot".- Carbuzz
With no mechanical changes, under the hood of 2022 Aviator is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that pops out 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. This is one of the most powerful and reliable engines in the segment. All trims have standard smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission to deliver both cruising and authoritative acceleration. It has a standard RWD and an available AWD drivetrain.
The Aviator's twin-turbo V6 feels refined and energetic and loves being pulled. There is ample power in the lower range, as well as mid-range, and the Aviator flies past everything on the roads like a champ. Sprinting from 0-60 MPH comes in 6.0 seconds which is the quickest among the competition here. Thanks to its largest and most powerful base engine in the segment.

On the move, the 2022 Lincoln Aviator tries to bring the best of both worlds. It's neither overly rigid nor as sharp as an Audi Q7. The adaptive suspension soaks up bumps really resulting in composed ride quality, even with the larger 22' inch wheels. While it's not as playful as a Genesis GV80 but still manages to cater to sharp and direct handling which allows enough confidence for quick highway maneuverings.

Compared to the rivals, the Volvo XC90 proves to be the most fuel-efficient in the segment, with a combined efficiency of 25 mpg. However, to make up for the fuel efficiency, the Aviator gets a 20.2-gallon gas tank, which in turn gives it a combined driving range of 424 miles before fuel stops. However, with a bigger fuel tank and better economy, the likes of Q7 and XC90 offer a more handsome 495 and 470 miles combined driving range, respectively.

"Yes, the 2022 Lincoln Aviator is an excellent three-row luxury SUV. The Aviator has an elegant interior with roomy first- and second-row seats, an expansive cargo area, and a very easy-to-use infotainment system".- Cars. U.S.News
The 2022 Aviator receives no significant change inside the luxurious cabin. The dashboard is crafted with carefully selected open-pore woods, including Santos Rosewood and Espresso Ash Swirl or aluminum appliances that offer engaging details that capture the eye as well as the imagination. There are also a lot of surfaces around the cabin that can cause distracting glare and reflections.
With three rows of seats, the Aviator seats 7 passengers but the third row is better left for kids. The front seats take the comfort game a step further with their 30-way power adjustments integrated into the seats and can be altered via the infotainment screen. The leg, shoulder, and headspace are ample enough for long riders in the first and second rows but the third row feels a little more cramped and is nothing out of the ordinary.

Thankfully, the Aviator's long length and cramped third-row seats result in a class-leading cargo space rated at 18.3 cubic -feet. It beats the previous leader in this segment, the Volvo XC90. With the third row folded flat, the cargo space increases to 41.8 cubic feet. For infotainment, the 2022 Aviator carries forward its 10.1-inch touchscreen using the same SYNC operating software as used in Fords.
The infotainment is easy to use and comes standard with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, SiriusXM radio, and four USB ports. A ten-speaker sound system is standard. Reserve trims add voice-activated navigation with SiriusXM Traffic, HD Radio, and a 14-speaker Revel sound system. "Lincoln scales down its signature look for the Aviator, and it works".- The Car Connection
The 2022 Aviator’s stylish exterior design remains unchanged. The current 2021 Aviator is without a doubt one of the most stunning in terms of design when talking about this otherwise bland and conservative segment of midsize SUVs. The chrome grills, black stingers, and bright chrome jewels add to the premium look of the Aviator. One could easily spot its inspiration driven from the Lincoln Navigator and the smaller Lincoln Nautilus.
The 2021 Aviator also gets three new color options and new options of 21” and 22”-inch 12-spoke wheels. The Reserve trim and above also get a Panoramic sunroof and soft-close doors. The front fascia looks stunning with uplifted looks and comes with full led-headlamps and Lincoln crown jewel LED. Moving to the back, it looks clean and simple as it should, the Aviator gets full-LED taillights with a sleek LED strip joining both.

Overall, the 2022 Lincoln Aviator still remains one of the best-looking things in its class. It has that unique presence and elegance of Lincoln, a good mix of muscle and sportiness. It does have the longest body and wheelbase in the segment here but is surprisingly well proportioned to hide its visual mass. However, that's the case with the other three rivals as well which have a distinctive exterior character of their own.

"The Aviator is a very safe SUV. For its performance in IIHS safety testing, Lincoln's three-row is a 2021 Top Safety Pick as long as you opt for the upgraded headlights, which are optional on most trims and standard on the Aviator Black Label. The Aviator also earns a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA".- Motortrend
While safety ratings for the 2022 Lincoln Aviator are not out yet, the outgoing 2021 Aviator pins down plenty of hopes to bank upon. The 2021 Lincoln Aviator safety review by NHTSA saw the SUV achieve an overall rating of five stars. It only scored four stars on the rollover test.
Even the IIHS gave the 2021 Lincoln Aviator a Top Safety Pick Award and its highest Good ratings in the crashworthiness test. Thanks to its rigid body structure and a host of standard and optionally available safety and driver-assistance features which give complete peace of mind.

Both the cars in the competition have a very premium and upscale presence on the road and are equally comfortable on the move. However, the Aviator offers a more powerful base engine, is quicker and also offers more cabin and cargo space than the Q7. The Q7 is more efficient and fun to drive while the Aviator at a lower MSRP than the Audi offers a more luxurious and feature-ladden cabin.
The Volvo XC90 starts a lower MSRP than the Aviator and is more efficient than the latter. The XC90 also stands out with its estately presence and a better comfort and driving dynamics than the Aviator. However, the Lincoln Aviator offers more power, more cabin space and essentially, an extensive list of luxury features compared to the Volvo XC90.
The Cadillac XT6 is the closest rivals riovals to the Aviator and starts at a lower MSRP than the former. In direct comparison though, the Aviator turns out to be more appealing than the Cadillac here. While the XT6 is a good machine, the Aviatir simply offers more power, more fun, better space and most importantly, better driving fun and features list.
If you're looking for an All-American midsize seven-seater luxury SUV, the 2022 Lincoln Aviator is a compelling choice in the segment. It looks great, has an energetic powertrain, offers a decent economy as well as plenty of space and practicality. While it may not be the sharpest handler out there, but has great ride comfort, an attractive cabin layout, and tons of luxury and safety features onboard. What else could one seek from an under $52,000 SUV of this class?
