About 2022 Maserati Quattroporte

2.8

Overall Rating

The Maserati Quattroporte is a full-size premium sedan from the exotic Italian automaker. It is the only Italian sedan in the market dominated by German sedans.

The Maserati Quattroporte is a full-size premium sedan from the exotic Italian automaker with inquisitive exterior styling. To match its flair, the new Maserati Quattroporte uses Ferrari-derived twin-turbo V6 and V8 engines under the hood. For 2022, the Maserati Quattroporte is mostly unchanged but the trim lineup gets simplified with rebranding. With Quattroporte range narrowed down to only three trim levels, the pricing for the base GT model begins from $96,000, the more athletic Modena begins at $105,800 while the bonkers Trofeo costs $143,200.

On the plus side, The Maserati Quattroporte handles really great for a large sedan. Speaking of looks, the large luxury sedan received a facelift for 2021. On the downside, the interior of Quattroporte is not as luxurious as it should be in the price range. In terms of tech features and interior quality, most German rivals including BMW 840i Gran Coupe and Porsche Panamera beat it.

The trim that makes the most sense here is the Modena Trim. Despite being priced $10,000 more than the base trim, it adds a lot of luxury features to the features list and it is also available with an All-wheel drive system. Furthermore, it adds features like 20-inch wheels, Upgraded leather upholstery, Heated and ventilated front seats, Revised exterior trim, Power-adjustable pedals, and a Heated sport steering wheel.

Apart from that, it also adds some interior packages to amplify the overall experience of the car. Some of the packages are the Sportivo package, the Exterior carbon package, and the Executive package out of which, the exterior package is the most expensive one and it costs $5500 and adds features like four-zone climate control, Executive rear seats, and heated seats.

2022 Maserati Quattroporte Review

Pros

  • Sprightly handling for a full-size sedan
  • Distinctive exterior styling that makes it different from its German rivals

Cons

  • The technology features are not as advanced as some German rivals

The Maserati Quattroporte is a full-size premium sedan from the exotic Italian automaker. It is the only Italian sedan in the market dominated by German sedans.

Overview

To match its flair, the new Maserati Quattroporte uses Ferrari-derived twin-turbo V6 and V8 engines under the hood. For 2022, the Maserati Quattroporte is mostly unchanged but the trim lineup gets simplified with rebranding. Pricing and Features
5.0/10

The pricing of the 2022 Maserati Quattroporte begins at $96,000 for the base GT trim. The more athletic Modena starts at $105,800, while the all-wheel-drive Modena Q4 starts at $110,300. Finally, the V8-powered Trofeo (reviewed separately) starts at $143,200. The Maserati aims at offering the best possible interior quality and driving experience at this price, and it does a great job.

Being the flagship luxury sedan, the Maserati Quattroporte is very well equipped. The base powertrain features a turbocharged V6 engine, 8-speed automatic transmission and RWD drivetrain. Buyers will enjoy a comfortable ride and spirited performance, thanks to standard features like Skyhook adaptive suspension, a limited-slip differential, adaptive full LED headlights, LED taillights, a sunroof, leather upholstery with accent stitching, open-pore wood trim, heated front seats, a memory driver’s seat, a heated steering wheel, power rear sunshades, 19-inch wheels, remote start, wireless charging, and an analogue clock.

Engine and Performance
6.0/10

"The Maserati Quattroporte is a car that lets you choose your level of performance based on your taste and your budget. " - Kbb.com

The 2022 Maserati Quattroporte is powered by either a twin-turbocharged V6 motor or turbocharged V8. these Ferrari sourced engines deliver ample performance and makes this large sedan thrill to drive. The turbo V6 is available in two different tunings. The base GT model produces a tremendous 345 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The Modena model puts out 424 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque. The top-spec Trofeo model gets the heart-pounding V8 that makes 580 horsepower.

You will get a rear-wheel-drive as standard on most Quattroporte models, but the Moderna trim offers a Q4 all-wheel-drive configuration. All models come with 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, that shifts smoothly.

With all the powertrain components combined together, the GT models with twin-turbo V6 engine is capable of hitting 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds and completing a quarter-mile run in 14 seconds, with a max top speed of 168 mph. With the V8 under the hood, the Quattroporte Trofeo model sprints to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds. This is one good sports sedan.

As far as the handling is concerned, it handles rather well for a luxury sedan. With the suspension setup on the stiffer side, it manages to take every corner with the minimum body roll possible for engaging driving dynamics. Another important factor is the reason behind its sports-car-like handling is its precise and direct steering system. On the whole, the Quattroporte is a great performing car especially with the powerful version of the V6 engine.

The 2022 Mercedes-AMG GT 43 4-door coupe easily delivers the most horses in the chart, while the Porsche Panamera falls behind the pack. However, in reality, the less powerful BMW is quicker than the Mercedes-AMG GT 43 in a quarter-mile run which takes 12.0 seconds, while the Mercedes Benz takes 4.8 to reach 60 mph. The sedan with the highest top speed of 177 mph.

Although all these cars have different performance figures, they are neck and neck in terms of overall performance. The Maserati with its base engine is not as quick as you’d expect. However, going for the tweaked V6 engine would deliver sufficient performance to knock out its competitors.

The 2022 Mercedes-AMG GT 43 and Maserati Quattroporte have almost the same MPG figures on the highway and the same sized fuel tank as well. The BMW 8 Series sure has the best MPG figures but a smaller fuel tank gives it the third-best driving range whereas the Porsche Panamera’s mediocre MPG numbers with a comparatively larger tank have the best driving range of all.

Interior

"This Italian sedan is priced against the German mainstay luxury brands' flagships, but the Quattroporte's interior is more snug than what you'd find in those full-sizers" - CarAndDriver.com

Being a flagship 4-door sedan, the interior of the 2022 Maserati Quattroporte is luxurious. However, for a $100,000 price tag, Quattroporte's cabin feels relatively average. On the bright side, the cabin is mostly covered in upscale and premium leather along with leather all over the dashboard maintaining luxury and sporty aesthetics. You can customise the interior with options like Zegna silk, Pieno Fiore leather, an Alcantara headliner, open-pore wood trim, carbon fibre trim, and more.

The other important interior feature that grabs a lot of attention is the analogue clock in the centre of the dashboard that gives a classic look to the interior. On the downside, there are some bits and parts shared with cheaper Stellantis products from brands like Chrysler and Jeep.

Moving on to the seats, it gets leather upholstered seats with many colour options to choose from. You also have two additional interior packages. The sportive package adds features like Alcantara headliner, Inox sport pedals, 12-way power sport seats, and the Executive package adds features like four-zone automatic climate control and heated seats. Besides, the 2022 Maserati can accommodate 5 passengers with utmost while some of its rivals have seating only for 4 people.

Exterior

Maserati Quattroporte's best selling point is its distinctive, athletic and premium exterior styling. Just like Porsche, the Maserati has also applied their signature design to all its models. On the front, it gets an aggressive shape to the front end with a long bonnet. The headlights look imposing that match the traditional Maserati front grille finished in chrome. You can also have a blacked-out front grille that looks more sporty and appealing. The rear fascia, on the other hand, is the best-looking part of the exterior.

It flaunts sleek and vertical taillights integrated with LED lights and also a quad exhaust pipe which makes it an absolute looker from the rear. That being said, the Maserati also throws in a wide array of colour options. The stunning colour on offer is the willow green which would definitely turn a lot of heads on the streets. Moreover, the base version is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, whereas the Modena trim brags 20-inch alloy wheels.

2022 Maserati Quattroporte Vs 2022 Porsche Panamera:

The Porsche Panamera is another strong offering to the full-size premium sedan and it is offered in a wide range of trim levels with hybrid options as well. There is no doubt that it is a very competitive car. Like you know, racing is definitely a part of their DNA. Although it has an underpowered engine than the 2022 Maserati Quattroporte, it still stays ahead of the Maserati Quattroporte in a drag race.

Also, it offers better fuel efficiency than the Maserati but the engine is not as characterful as the Maserati which has a great exhaust note. Also, the Porsche comes at a more affordable price making it the best choice here.

2022 Maserati Quattroporte Vs 2022 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe:

The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is one of the recent additions to the BMW lineup. On the performance front, it clearly beats the Maserati Quattroporte in terms of performance with 0-60 mph half a second quicker than the Maserati and also delivers better fuel economy than the Maserati. As it is a new model, it has a better-looking interior as well with an aggressive exterior styling, and all these perks come at nearly $11,000 lesser than the Maserati.

However, the Maserati with its tweaked V6 engine offers relatively better performance and a distinctive exhaust note. All in all, the BMW is a better option considering its price. However, if you want a more lively and engaging driving experience, the Maserati is worth considering.

2022 Maserati Quattroporte Vs 2022 Mercedes Benz AMG GT 43 4-door coupe:

The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT43 has a more powerful engine than the Maserati and without a doubt, it is clearly the faster car off the line. Also, the Maserati is more expensive than the Mercedes Benz and more fuel-efficient as well. As for the interior, the Mercedes Benz gets a fresh-looking interior with a plethora of modern elements, whereas the Maserati offers the same interior that has been around for a while now.

However, the exterior of the Maserati looks more unique and aggressive than the Mercedes Benz. When it comes to buying decisions, the Mercedes Benz AMG GT 43 seems to be a better option.

Final Verdict
5.0/10

The Maserati Quattroporte steps into the year 2022 mostly unchanged. Although the base GT may be a bit low on power as compared to some rivals, it is an ideal car for people who love the art of driving. We expect a revamped version for the next year. The German brands have gone a bit more extra in every aspect. If you are in the market for an Italian sedan with a characterful engine, the Maserati ticks all the boxes. However, the German brands are better in most aspects and they are worth considering too.
