Overall Rating
The 2022 Mazda 3 is expected to come with no major changes compared to the 2021 model year. As it will be a carryover model the same specs will continue as will the trims which do include the favorite turbo trim. People will be able to select their choice of SkyActiv engines and drivetrain - FWD and AWD. However, there have been rumors of a manual transmission, but there hasn't been any confirmation from Mazda on the topic.
The 2022 Mazda 3 sedan gets very little in the form of updates for 2022 after it received a slew of updates in 2021. A Carbon Edition package that was seen on the CX-5 and the CX-9 now makes its way to the Mazda 3, and it adds Polymetal Grey paint, black exterior elements (grille, wheels, mirror caps, etc), red leather seats, and a 12-speaker Bose stereo system. A Platinum Quartz Metallic paint option also joins as an exterior color option. Also, the 2022 Mazda 3's pricing has slightly increased for 2022, as it now starts from $20,800.
Â
The base Mazda 3 features a decent set of features for a relatively low asking price and thus making it the most VFM trim of the lot and hence our recommendation.

"Available as a sedan or a hatchback, the Mazda3 stands out in the compact car world for its upscale look and feel." - Kelley Blue Book
The 2022 Mazda 3 will continue with the 7 trim options from its previous model year, - 2.0, 2.5, Select, Preferred, Premium, 2.5 Turbo, and 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus; and adds the Carbon Edition trim as well. The 2.0 trim starts at a price of $20,800 and the pricing goes up to $33,100 for the 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus with AWD. The Mazda 3 sedan will come with an FWD drivetrain and the option of an AWD drivetrain for $1,400 more. The 2.0 and 2.5 Trim get FWD only and the 2.5 Turbo Trims get AWD only.
The 2022 Mazda 3 sedan also comes with an additional destination charge of $1,015. As standard, all trims come equipped with LED exterior lighting, keyless entry and ignition, air-conditioning, Bluetooth, eight speakers, and also gets forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking as standard. Mazda also offers quite a few options on the Mazda 3 sedan in the form of stand-alone options, for you to add for a bit of customization.

The Mazda 3 2.5 S is a mid-level model. It's not much more expensive than the base 2.0 and adds more power as well as some useful features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. Consider purchasing the Select option for its enhanced interior, which is reasonably priced. The new turbocharged engine is impressive, but its high price tag will make it an expensive for many consumers. However, if you enjoy having a lot of power beneath your feet, it's absolutely worth the extra money.
"The standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder is eager and delivers smooth power on the onset." -Edmunds
The 2022 Mazda 3 will continue its three engine options - the 2.0 trim comes with a 2.0L I-4 engine that makes 150 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque. The 2.5L trims are powered by a 2.5L I-4 engine with an output of 186 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque. The turbo trims come with a turbocharged 2.5L engine that makes 227 hp/ 250 hp and has a torque output of 310 lb-ft/ 320 lb-ft with either regular gas/ premium 93 octane gas.
Irrespective of the engine, a 6-speed automatic is standard whereas manual transmission is not on offer also. The FWD drivetrain is standard, with AWD being an option on a few trims. The 2.0 and 2.5 Trim get FWD only, and the 2.5 Turbo Trims get AWD only. In terms of handling and steering, the Mazda 3 is consistent, precise, and offers loads of feedback from its steering and chassis. Around corners, the car feels planted and secure.
As there are no changes to the 2022 model as compared to the 2021 model, the Mazda 3 with its base engine will do 0-60 MPH in more than 8.0 seconds. However, with the 2.5L engine, it improves considerably, reducing from above 8 seconds to 7.0 seconds. With the 2.5L turbocharged inline-4 engine, the car sprints from 0-60 MPH in 5.6 seconds. Irrespective of the engine, the Mazda 3 will reach a top speed of 131 mph.

The Mazda 3 returns the least at 31 MPG. However, irrespective of the better numbers on the Civic, the Mazda 3 offers the better range thanks to its larger tank.

When the Mazda3 arrived in 2019 as a fully redesigned vehicle, it brought an upscale design with it that will continue for the 2022 model year. - Cars Direct
Since its redesign in 2019, the Mazda 3's design has seen no changes, even for 2022. The car continues with the same premium look and styling, which is inspired by the Vision Coupe. The Vision Coupe is a Mazda sports-car concept with a hood way longer than necessary for the Wankel rotary the company was imagining at the time.
The sedan has handsome styling with a large grille, sharp LED, and headlights with LED DRLs, and LED taillights with Signature LED taillights on Premium and higher trims. 16-inch wheels are standard with 18-inch alloy wheels are available on higher trims. Rain-sensing wipers are standard, as are power-folding side mirrors. For 2022, the car sees no changes in its dimensions.

The 2022 Mazda 3 hasn't been crash-tested by the NHTSA or the IIHS. With the many safety and driver-assist feature included as standard like the 2021 model, we expect similar results. The 2021 Mazda 3 has a safety rating of 5-stars, out of a possible 5-stars, from the NHTSA, which gave it 5-stars in all tests and for both drivetrains. The IIHS rated it an overall safety rating of "good" and has also awarded it "Top Safety Pick+".
Notable safety features in the 2022 Mazda 3 Sedan include:
The 2022 Honda Civic gets a redesign for 2022, and it improves on everything the last generation lacked. Both these cars come in sedan and hatchback body styles. The Honda Civic and the Mazda 3 both offer highly engaging driving dynamics, but the Honda is more economical and more planted as well. On the inside, the Civic's redesigned interior is more spacious and comfortable than the Mazda 3's cabin. The Mazda's cabin has a more premium appeal to it and its infotainment unit is quite simple to use as well. As a result, the Civic is the better choice among the two.
The 2022 Kia Forte gets an exterior redesign for 2022. Both cars come with the most up-to-date infotainment systems and connectivity. The Kia offers a lot more value with its lower pricing, better economy, a bigger trunk, and a longer warranty. When it comes to performance, the 2022 Mazda 3 offers a more powerful engine choice as well as a capable basic engine. Both automobiles produce mind-blowing acceleration. The 2022 Mazda 3 Sedan comes standard with Cruise Control, whereas the Kia Forte comes standard with Smart Cruise Control (SCC). However, the Forte is the best bargain car under $20,000 with a good feature set.
2022 Mazda 3 Vs 2022 Hyundai Elantra
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra is one of the best choices in this segment. The car offers a calm and composed ride quality with easy driving, has superb fuel economy, and it also gets the best looks in this class. The Elantra's wide trim options and its long list of standard features make it a very desirable choice, but it does not do well in terms of interior quality. The Mazda 3 strikes at this very point with its premium and plush interior that matches the enthusiastic driving it offers. The Mazda 3 also offers AWD, whereas the Elantra has a long list of standard features, a roomy interior, and an extensive warranty.
The 2022 Mazda 3 is expected to be released in Fall 2021 with an expected starting price range of $21,000 and will continue to a maximum price of $33,000. The Mazda 3 comes with three engine options and a choice of drivetrains. There are also a good amount of features, especially safety features. For the Mazda 3, As there are no major mechanical changes and no major changes compared to the previous model year,
