This turbocharged engine holds its own against the V6s that power most rivals. - U.S News
The second-generation Mazda CX-9 rolls with a 2.5L turbocharged 4 cylinder engine and is supposed to retain the same for the upcoming 2022 MY. The 227 horses under the hood may not boost similar power as compared to the rivals but the well-equipped CX-9 has amazing handling. The 310lb-ft torque is still the best in class.
The 6-Speed automatic transmission makes sure you have quicker shifts and low fuel consumption. As Mazda uses the SkyActiv tech, the power and fuel management are well managed. The 2022 Mazda CX-9 offers an average towing capacity of 3,500 lbs which is not bad considering the smaller engine.

The power output may not be on the higher side, still, the performance is quite punchy. With a crazy torque output, the CX-9 sprints from 0-60 MPH in mere 7.0 seconds. The driving impressions are good enough for a turbocharged motor. The AWD opens up off-road capabilities. With the rumored V-6 engine, it will be on a whole another level.

Mazda has been making the most fuel-efficient vehicles in the segment. With a similar 4 cylinder motor, the CX-9 will still deliver the best-in-class fuel economy of 22 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway. Not every three-row SUV is capable of shelling out 24 MPG of the combined economy. With these MPG figures, you shouldn't worry about the increasing fuel prices.

So many nice materials fill the CX-9’s cabin that critics compare it favorably to a luxury vehicle. U.S News
The interior looks premium as it is. With the 2022 update, you might get better material options or comfort levels. Still, the elegant interior design is the most attractive in its price range. The use of proper ergonomics and intelligent placement of functions. Mazda has used decent materials even in the base trim levels.Â
The standard cabin materials include a leather steering wheel, premium chrome and metal-look accents. There's premium leather upholstery with higher trims. The stylish dashboard layout gives sporty vibes. With the massive 10.3 inch infotainment, the CX-9 has much better interiors than the rivals. The cabin seems pretty tight if we compare it with the rivals as they offer better space. Still, the premium cloth upholstery on the CX-9 is really soft. You may get better seating adjustments with the updated 2022 MY. As the Carbon trim got popular for its sportier design, you can expect it yet again with better offerings.Â
As we heard about the new infotainment, it will definitely offer better features. The dynamic driver's display may offer few updates as well. The ride quality is already pleasant to offer comfort during long journeys. If only they could improvise the third-row seating and the available cargo space.

Although the interior accoutrements are the real appeal of the Signature, Mazda does sprinkle a little extra flash on the outside, too - Auto Blog
The Mazda CX-9 is all about styling and design. The front fascia will get minor upgrades with sleeker DRLs and a slightly bigger chrome-designed grill. At the rear, the exhaust pipes will receive a fresh makeover. Mazda is all set to offer new color options. You have similar 18-inch alloy wheels. However, it looks better with the optional 20-inch alloys.
In the segment, the Mazda CX-9 is already the most appealing three-row SUV. With the exterior chrome accents and premium paint schemes, it spreads its charm like no other. The aerodynamic design gives boxy rivals a run for their money.

A very tough competitor to the Mazda, the Hyundai Palisade is also a very appealing car in this segment. With plenty of space inside and better 3rd-row seating than the Mazda, the Hyundai has the potential to give the Mazda a run for its money.
From the Germans, we have the Volkswagen Atlas competing in the mid-size crossover SUV segment. The Atlas is also a good choice for people needing 3rd-row seating in their car, and the Atlas also does a very good job at it. But just like the Hyundai, it also falls behind the Mazda in terms of fuel economy and the overall dynamic of the car, which is quite bland as compared to the Mazda.
The Mazda CX-9 is one of the most stylish SUVs currently available in the market. On top of that, it offers plenty of features for your convenience and entertainment. The luxury cabin is way ahead of its rivals. If we talk about the pricing, you can expect anything near $35,000 for the base trim. The price will go up to $47,000 for the signature trim. Mazda has equipped the CX-9 with everything be it comfort, quality, performance as well as technology. However, it's a long haul for the CX-9 as it doesn't serve its true purpose with the scarcity of utility. However, it will be a fit for your family with its amazing capabilities. The 2022 Mazda CX-9 is supposed to come out during the last quarter of 2021.
