Under the hood of the 2022 Mercedes-AMG GT 53, you will find a familiar turbocharged 3.0 Litre inline-6 cylinder engine which is paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. The combination can produce 429 horsepower and a torque of 384 lb-ft. A traditional nine-speed automatic transmission can be found which works smoothly and never feels lacking. As Expected, Power is sent to all four wheels for better grip. The turbocharged engine is a real gem, as it performs exceptionally awesome on the road. So flooring the pedal in this one feels amazing, as AMG GT 53 rockets to 60 mph from zero in 4.1 seconds and can finish a quarter-mile within 12.8 seconds.
Even firing up the ignition should cheer masses because of its amazing exhaust notes. Despite being an AMG vehicle, it offers a very good balance between being sporty and comfortable.

GT 53’s turbocharged engine performs exceptionally on the road, however, when compared to the rivals it falls behind the others, as all three of them are faster by a few milliseconds. Do keep in mind though that the BMW M850i comes with a twin-turbo V8 engine which is certainly more powerful so it is natural that it will perform better. Still, Merc manages to offer a confident performance that should be able to satisfy most.
This is an AMG vehicle, which is usually focussed on performance or should we say ‘being sporty’. However, GT 53 provides an amazing demonstration of how to mix power with comfortable. Despite being incredibly quick on its feet, it stays composed. But going in straight lines is not the only thing you would want to do. It can easily do laps on the track with the same level of confidence. Moreover, the steering wheel seems well-weighted and provides pretty good feedback from the road. So tackling sharp corners while going fast inspires confidence.
The same can be said about the suspension system which was already breathtaking, but AMG decided to retune it. So now you get an even better system that provides more distinction between different driving modes.
Having solid control over such a powerful machine is expected. After all, nobody would want to lose their cool while going over complex circuits. On top of that, the AMG GT 53 weighs 4,553 pounds which is toward the heavier side in this class. So it gets even more necessary to have such control. Fortunately, Mercedes-AMG has done an excellent job with the GT 53. The efficient braking system consists of 14.2-inch front and rear regenerative disc brakes. The braking system is also incorporated with various assists including hill hold control. The GT 53 should be able to stop from 70 mph to zero within 151 feet. An admirable number for its segment.
We should also mention that despite offering sporty performance, it stays comfortable which means you get a smooth braking experience without any sudden jerks.

Despite having a solid braking performance, when compared to the others, the Audi S7 offers the biggest sized brakes but it also weighs heavier than the others. The same can be said about the M850i which is significantly heavier. On the other hand, the Porsche Panamera 4S is much lighter. Still, GT 53 manages to stop within a shorter distance from 70 mph than the others which is incredible.
Considering how fast and powerful it is, it wouldn't be foolish to assume that the GT 53 is inefficient in terms of fuel economy. However, this cunning beauty managed to surprise us by offering a decent fuel economy which is something you would not find in a vehicle such as this. You get a mileage of 20 MPG in the city, 25 MPG on the highways, and 22 MPG combined. On top of that, you also get a massive fuel tank with a capacity of 21.1 gallons which is easily one of the biggest in its class. So you have an impressive driving range that varies from 422 to 527 miles. This is again one of the best in its class and makes it an excellent option as a daily driver.

When compared to the others, GT 53 only manages to surpass both the Porsche Panamera 4S and BMW M850i Gran Coupe. The V8 in the BMW engine was expected to have poor fuel economy. However, the Audi S7 on the other hand offers superior mileage. As for the range, both Porsche and Merc come with bigger tanks which is why they provide a better driving range than others here.
As powerful as it is, step inside through wide doors and you will experience an interior that is a perfect amalgamation of sportiness and class. Everything looks pristine with top-quality materials that ooze with style. The vast color combination for interior and upholstery should satisfy everyone. As for the dashboard, 2 wide displays are enough to display Merc’s finesse in loading technology. The adjustable steering wheel provides good range, and customizable ambient interior lighting set the mood accordingly. Power-adjustable heated bucket seats can be found at the front, and two bucket seats can be found at the rear.
Both rows offer an adequate level of comfort however because of the sloped roofline, you will find a shortage of headroom in the back. Even if there is no exact number available, the standard cargo capacity seems decent for its class and one can increase it by folding flat rear row seats. Moreover, the rear bucket seats can be swapped with a bench seat for three occupants.
