About 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

3.4

Overall Rating

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan is a standard among the mid-size luxury sedan for decades now and that is not without a reason.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan is a standard among the mid-size luxury sedan for decades now and that is not without a reason. There are various things that make the E-Class sedan a great choice for the buyers in the segment. The 2022 E-Class is going to be mechanically the same sedan compared to the ongoing model year. This year the Merc’s E-Class sedan will come with just some minor changes in terms of the standard features list.

We recommend going for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class E450 sedan unless you are thinking of being driven in the rear seats. The performance is always better with the bigger engine here and that will keep you entertained while driving the car. We also recommend going for the air-suspension and Driver Assistance package. The air suspension significantly improves the ride quality of the car. The Driver Assistance package adds adaptive cruise control, active steering assist, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitor, and rear-cross traffic alert.

  • Plethora of customization options
  • Impressive standard driver assistance features
  • Great comfort and tranquility

Cons

  • Mediocre braking performance
  • Uninviting base engine
  • Rivals offer better trunk capacity

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan is a standard among the mid-size luxury sedan for decades now and that is not without a reason.

Overview

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan is a standard among the mid-size luxury sedan for decades now and that is not without a reason. There are various things that make the E-Class sedan a great choice for the buyers in the segment. The 2022 E-Class is going to be mechanically the same sedan compared to the ongoing model year. This year the Merc’s E-Class sedan will come with just some minor changes in terms of the standard features list.

Pricing and Features
8.0/10

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan comes in two different trim levels namely E350 and E450. There are no major differences in terms of the features for both these trim levels and the only thing that differentiates them is the powertrain options. The standard features with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan include LED headlights, simulated leather upholstery, power-adjustable and heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a sunroof, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display, MBUX infotainment interface, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry with push-button start, automatic emergency braking, and Blind-spot monitor. The E450 gets the same standard and optional features with the bigger 3.0L turbocharged Inline-6 engine and standard all-wheel-drive.

We recommend

We recommend going for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class E450 sedan unless you are thinking of being driven in the rear seats. The performance is always better with the bigger engine here and that will keep you entertained while driving the car. We also recommend going for the air-suspension and Driver Assistance package. The air suspension significantly improves the ride quality of the car. The Driver Assistance package adds adaptive cruise control, active steering assist, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitor, and rear-cross traffic alert.

Release Date

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan is already released and the specifications of the car are out. You can easily compare the 2022 model year with the ongoing model. There have been no major changes with the 2022 E-Class sedan.

Engine and Performance
8.0/10

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan comes in two different powertrain options. The standard engine that powers the E-Class sedan is a 2-liter turbocharged Inline-6 engine. The engine churns out a maximum power output of 255 horsepower and a peak torque output of 273 lb-ft. The engine comes mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission that is the only transmission option, You can have the engine configuration with an RWD or AWD drivetrain. If the standard engine does not appeal to you and you want more power, you can go for the bigger 3-liter turbocharged Inline-6 engine.

The bigger engine produces 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The standard engine is not underpowered by any means but it is not exciting either. The 255 horses worth of power feel enough for the E-Class sedan for the most part. The power delivery is nice and smooth and the engine feels progressive. The refinement levels are quite good which is expected from a Merc engine. The 9-speed automatic transmission makes things even better and you do not feel the power lag at any time. But it will surely not give you a fun driving experience with the base engine.

The people who want better performance and more driving pleasure should go for the E450 trim that offers the 362 horsepower 3-liter turbocharged Inline-6 engine. The transmission remains the same in this case too which is already a responsive transmission. This engine is a far better choice as it makes the driving experience even more effortless. The power delivery is linear in this case too. It won’t give you a pushback in your seats when you accelerate but you won’t realize the need for extra power at any point.

The driving dynamics of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan are not as good as some of its rivals as Merc with its E-Class sedan never focuses on it. Instead, it is a more effortless driving experience with the car. You do not feel tired even after driving it for long hours and it is one of the luxurious ways to reach your destination. However, the ride quality of the E-Class sedan is not the most comfortable as air suspension is not standard now. The ride feels stiffer and you can feel the road undulations filtering through the suspension inside the cabin.

The 2022 BMW 530i is the fastest sedan in the segment in terms of outright acceleration. The Bimmer takes only 5.8 seconds to reach from 0 to 60 miles per hour and the quarter-mile run takes 12.3 seconds which is also the fastest in the segment. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan comes at second position in terms of acceleration sharing its spot with the Audi A6. Both these sedans take 6.1 seconds to reach from 0 to 60 miles per hour.

Fuel Economy
8.0/10

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan manages to return some acceptable figures in terms of fuel economy. It is for sure not the most fuel-efficient sedans in the segment but offers decent numbers. Exterior
2.0/10

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan comes with a pretty familiar exterior look that does not take time to recognize. The resemblance to the flagship sedan in Mer’s lineup the S-Class sedan is still noticeable. The design of the E-Class sedan is pretty simple and subtle which does not ask for attention at all. The E-Class sedans are usually made for business people and that sophistication is still there. There are no changes in the exterior compared to the ongoing model year of the car.

The front gets the same signature black grille with the big star logo in the middle of the grille. A horizontal chrome line joins the logo and passes in the center of the grille. The LED headlights get the smoke-out effect. As you move to the bottom, it gets functional air vents that also get the horizontal line design. The machine-cut aluminum at the side looks great. The small antenna at the rear looks great and there are no changes in the design of the taillights either.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan vs. Audi A6

The Audi A6 is a very close rival of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan as it also offers a great level of luxury and comfort inside its cabin. These two sedans are one of the best options out there in the mid-size luxury sedan market for what they offer. The Audi A6 manages to offer a better ride quality compared to the standard E-Class sedan which does not get air suspension as standard with the car. However, you can’t go wrong with either of these great cars.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan vs. Jaguar XF

The Jaguar XF offers a more fun-to-drive package when you compare it with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan. The Jag is also more spacious of the two from the inside be it the front or the rear row. However, the XF feels outdated compared to the more modern E-Class sedan. The infotainment system of the Merc is far superior to the XF. The E-Class sedan comes out as a better overall package unless you are ready to compromise for a better driving experience.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan vs. BMW 5-Series

The BMW 5-Series has always been the best choice in the mid-size luxury sedan segment for the drivers.
