Overall Rating
The 2022 Mistubishi Eclipse Cross gets a redesign this year after being MIA for the previous model year. It gets a new exterior design and an updated infotainment system for the interior, but the engine specs remain constant. It is available for sale in 4 configurations which include ES, LE, SE, and SEL and the prices start at $24,940.
After missing out on the 2021 model year, the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross gets a redesign this year. The front and rear end design look more modern now and the new liftgate has done away with the odd-looking split rear window design of the older model years. The front fascia now looks in line with the new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander that gets striking interiors.
The interior of the new Eclipse Cross also sees updates this year, which includes a new 8-inch infotainment system without the touchpad controller and new gray leather upholstery. Under the hood, it gets the 1.5L turbo-4 engine with the same specs as before.Â
At an affordable price of $24,940, it competes against the likes of Honda CR-V, Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-5, and Toyota RAV4.
The SE trim is the one that offers the best balance between value and features.
Though it comes at a higher price of $27,690 without the AWD, it adds plenty of useful amenities like dual-zone climate control, navigation system, 6-speaker audio system, keyless entry with push-button start, power driver seat, and synthetic suede upholstery, along with the additional driver aids. Unless you live in adverse weather conditions, the S-AWC can be given a miss to keep the prices in check.

"Apart from its class-leading warranty and nice interior setup, perhaps the only other positive of the Eclipse Cross would be that it's around $2,000 cheaper than its rivals." - Carbuzz
Offering a full suite of upgrades inside and out and available in 4 configurations, the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross starts at just $24,940 for the base ES trim and goes all the way to $28,940 for the SEL trim. Options are limited by trim, although Mitsubishi’s motorsport-derived Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel-drive system can be added to any trim level for $1,600, which brings heated side mirrors when not already standard.
There’s a Welcome package that adds carpeted floor mats, a cargo mat, and a paint pen. The SE offers a Panoramic Sunroof package, which costs $1,000 extra over SE’s MSRP. The biggest option bundle is the SEL’s Touring Package that brings upgraded audio, a power panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision mitigation with high-speed braking, roof rails, and a head-up display and could be had by paying $2,100 extra over SEL’s MSRP.

"The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has an adventurous style, but its running gears is strictly ordinary." - The Car Connection
The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross offers only one engine choice, a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine that puts out 152 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.
There is no option available with the Eclipse Cross in terms of engine and transmission, and the power is channeled via a CVT gearbox to the front wheels as standard. One can opt for the Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel-drive drivetrain for an added sum of $1,600.
The power output is linear and smooth and while the power fades off higher in the rev band, the engine does not sound strained. It is in no way synonymous with Paul Walker's Mitsubishi Eclipse, but it still manages to be on par with the segment standards in terms of acceleration performance. It has a towing capacity of 1,500 lbs and takes its time to do the quarter-mile drag run.
The 0-60 MPH comes up in 8.6 seconds while the top speed is limited to 118 MPH.

Compared to its rivals the Eclipse Cross lags in terms of power figures and thanks to its CVT it is not even fun to drive either. The Honda CR-V leads the pack with the highest power figures and thanks to its CVT transmission, it is also the slowest off the mark.
The Kia Sportage is the quickest one here and also offers great value considering its low starting price.

The low-performance nature might make one assume that the 2022 MitsubishiEclipse Cross must be very frugal in nature. Sadly though, that's not the case with the unchanged powertrain. The EPA rated the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross to return a gas mileage of 26 mpg in the city, 29 mpg on the highway, and 27 mpg combined.
Opting for the AWD drops the fuel economy marginally to 25/28/26 in city/highway/combined as per EPA. The large 16.6-gallon fuel tank is a good respite as it manages to offer around 450 miles of combined range.

The fuel economy figures are below average for the Eclipse Cross and the Honda CR-V shines in this comparison with an overall 30 mpg of combined gas mileage. The Kia Sportage is behind the Eclipse Cross as it has the lowest fuel efficiency, while the Mazda CX-5 is marginally better at it than the Mitsubishi.
"The cabin is pleasant enough place to spend time, even if the design and materials don't stand out for the segment." - Motortrend
The interior of the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has been updated with an all-new color scheme for the interior. But the new interior choices are only for the SEL trim while the rest of the trim gets the same color scheme as the 2021 Eclipse Cross. That said the infotainment is now more biased towards the driver for better ergonomics.
While the base ES trim only gets basic features like manual seats with fabric upholstery, single-zone automatic climate control, and keyless entry functions, upgrading to LE trim adds heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a larger infotainment screen.Â
The SE trim adds dual-zone climate control, power driver seat, and synthetic suede upholstery to the mix. The SEL trim gets a heated steering wheel and power adjustment for the front seats. Opting for the Touring Pack on the SEL trim gets you heated rear seats.Â
The seats have adequate cushioning for most users and the fabric seems durable as well. The front row offers sufficient headroom and legroom but the rear seat lacks a bit on both these accounts. The trunk capacity of 23.4 cu-ft can be extended to just over 50 cu-ft by folding down the rear seat.Â

In comparison, the Honda CR-V again aces the competition with class-leading trunk and passenger space on offer. It offers the best headroom and legroom for both the front and rear-seat passengers and also has plenty of creature comforts right from the base trim. Both Mazda and Kia offer similar cargo space, much larger than Eclipse Cross.Â
The biggest update for the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is the bigger 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system also dubbed as Smartphone-link Display Audio (SDA) system.
The system is standard on all except the base trim. The base trim still gets a 7.0-inch touchscreen unit. The best part about the upgrade is that Mitsubishi hasn’t removed the physical knob and control to access frequently used and nifty functions but has done away with the touchpad controller from the previous model year.Â
Standard features available for infotainment include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, FM/AM, Bluetooth, etc. Optional features offered include onboard navigation with TomTom live traffic information and mapping, etc. The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is also the first vehicle that comes with what3words integrated into the navigation itself.
"The Eclipse Cross has a bold new exterior design, but underneath is a dated subpar SUV." - CarGurus
The extensive redesign of the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross results in a longer, sleeker, and more luxurious compact SUV. We will give that to designers for cleverly improving the cargo capacity of the 2022 Eclipse Cross by increasing the front and rear overhangs. This has also helped in giving the Eclipse Cross better proportions and a sporty look.
The 2022 Eclipse Cross is available for sale in Alloy Silver Metallic and Labrador Black Pearl colors as standard, while the White Diamond and Red Diamond colors can be had for $595. Also, while the base ES trim rides on 16-inch alloy wheels as standard, LE and above configurations get 18-inch alloys as standard.
Outside, the 2022 Eclipse Cross grows in size and wears a new bumper and the latest, most striking version of the brand’s Dynamic Shield grille design which presents a sportier and more futuristic appearance. A newly styled bisected lighting design features thin, high-mounted LED daytime running lights (DRLs) at the leading edge of the hood with integrated turn signal lamps just below. Stacked-and-recessed assemblies combine headlamp and fog lamp in a low-mounted position. The sophisticated design has been carried through to the rear of the vehicle, with a completely restyled rear hatch and window.

The Eclipse Cross has the smallest dimensions in this comparison but thanks to its interior design engineers the car manage to carve out the second-best wheelbase in this comparison. That said, it does not necessarily translate to space inside its cabin.
On the streets, the Eclipse Cross and Mazda CX-5 look the sportiest and most striking, and will definitely stand out in this red color scheme.

The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross continues to offer a safe haven for its occupants which is evident from its crash test ratings. The NHTSA has rated it with a perfect 5-star overall rating while it also managed to get 'Good' ratings in almost all the aspects of the tests conducted by the IIHS for the 2022 model year. There are plenty of standard safety features and driver aids on offer from lower down the trim configuration, a highlight of which has been listed below.
Check out the detailed safety review of Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross >>
The Mazda CX-5 is the direct rival of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and the former happens to beat the latter in almost all comparisons. The Madaz CX-5 is more powerful and drives better than the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. Not only this the six-speed automatic offered on the Mazda CX-5 is leaps and bounds better than the CVT gearbox of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. But the cheaper price tag of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has the opinion tilt in its favor for the price-conscious customer.
The Honda CR-V simply put is a superior offering compared to the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. The Honda CR-V offers better performance, features, and comfort compared to the Eclipse Cross. Not only this the Honda CR-V is more spacious and offers better gas mileage compared to the Eclipse Cross. The only thing in favor of the Eclipse Cross in front of the Honda CR-V is its lower price tag but we would definitely pick the expensive Honda CR-V over the Eclipse Cross any time of the day.
The marginally higher price of the Kia Sportage gets you additional power which makes it quicker off the mark. That also makes the Sportage a bit thirstier than the Eclipse Cross, but both offer similar driving ranges. While the Sportage might not be longer than the Eclipse but it offers much higher cabin and trunk space. The cabin also comes loaded with plenty of creature comforts and technology as standard, which makes it worth the additional investment.
The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has although received a lot of changes but still lacks in front of its rivals. A part of that goes to the same old engine and CVT gearbox combo. Although the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has been very competitively priced, that won’t be enough for it. The interior and the cargo space have been improved with the update and do give you a reason to consider this crossover for once.
That said, apart from a lower price tag, class-leading warranty, and better interior there is hardly anything else that the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has to offer against its rivals.
