Overview

The 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 has been launched, and the street-legal sports car is up for grabs at a starting price of $162,450. The 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 gets lots of mechanical upgrades and an all-new downward-facing swan-neck rear wing. The result is better aerodynamics and downforce. The 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 is powered by a 502-hp, 4.0-liter boxer-6 engine that helps it do 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds. For 2022, Porsche has offered the 911 GT3 with a choice of seven-speed PDK and a six-speed manual.

Unlike the regular Porsche 911, the 911 GT3 is a two-seater sports car with a driver-centric cabin. The cabin has an all-black theme with a focus on function over form. Still, the cabin looks luxurious, and Porsche hasn’t cut corners here. Although practicality wise the Porsche 911 GT3 lags, but then who buys a track-ready street-legal sports car for practicality purpose. That said, the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 rivals the likes of Audi R8, Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 63 S, and Jaguar F-Type R.

Pricing and Features
6.0/10

The 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 as of now will be available in one trim with an optional Touring Package that essentially removes the fixed rear wing, however, the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 with Touring Package will be covered by us separately. Other than this, the 2022Porsche 911 GT3 RS, which is the most powerful road-legal 911 in the entire 911 food chain, will be available by the year-end. The 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 starts at $162,450.

The 2022 911 GT3 gets standard features like auto start/stop, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus with electronically controlled differential, lightweight stainless steel sports exhaust, LED headlights with 4-point LED spotlights, 3D LED taillights, heated rear windshield, heated front seats with four-way power adjustment, cruise control, rearview camera, Porsche Communication Management (PCM), etc.

Apart from the standard features, Porsche offers few paid options and features which include 18-way power-adjustable sports seats for $2,640, carbon fiber roof for $3,890, Chrono package for $550, Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake with yellow calipers for $9,210, LED matrix design headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus for $4,010, auto-dimming mirror with an integrated rain sensor for $700, an extended leather package for $1,670, BOSE surround sound system for $1,600, etc.

2022 Porsche 911 GT3 Buying Advice

As is the case with most Porsche cars, the base car is sparsely equipped and even the daily needed features like an auto-dimming mirror are paid option. We recommend adding the LED matrix design headlights to ensure a safer ride at night, auto-dimming mirror, and Porsche Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes for better stopping power. These are the bare minimum to have from the long list of optional features. While if you have lots of cash to splurge, then the carbon fiber sports seats, BOSE surround sound system, a carbon-fiber roof, and an extended leather package should also be included in your paid features lists.

Engine and Performance
7.0/10

The hooligan 911 GT3 was always a powerful beast putting out 500 plus horses and close to 339 lb-ft of torque. For 2022 Porsche has added few new parts and changed few older parts to extract even more power from the same setup. Porsche has added a new dry-sump lubrication system, a throttle body for each cylinder, and a new set of pistons to ensure higher performance and sharper throttle response. These new changes and addition are also done keeping in mind that the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 can go on to freaking 9,000 rpm with a redline between 9,500 to 10,000 rpm.

Thus the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 gets the same 4.0-liter boxer-six engine, but it now puts out 502 hp and 346 lb-ft of torque. The new setup has given a bump of 2 hp and 7 lb-ft of torque. The 2022 911 GT3 gets a seven-speed PDK transmission, while a six-speed manual is available on special order and at no extra cost. Thus the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3, all thanks to Porsche’s mumbo-jumbo, now does 0-60 mph in 3.2 sec and the quarter-mile comes at 11.1 seconds. The 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 has a top speed of 197 mph.

The Jaguar F-Type R is the only one with a supercharged V8 that puts out 575 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. The AMG GT 63 S does the fastest 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds, with Audi R8 remains behind it by two-tenths of a second. The Jaguar F-Type R does 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds, which is the slowest among all.

Interior
9.0/10

The cabin of the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 is mostly similar to the regular Porsche 911. The quintessential 911 GT3 has its unique styling elements and design cues to differentiate it from the regular 911. The 2022 911 GT3’s dash is simple and ergonomically set. There are two big TFT screens, one is for the driver’s display and the other one is for the infotainment. The driver’s display has a set of gauges with an analog tachometer in the middle. To differentiate the GT3’s driver console from the regular 911, the gauges are changed, and you get GT-specific ones in the GT3. The gear shifter has also been changed, and in GT3, you get one that looks like a manual shifter but is an automatic gear shifter. There is a small GT3 badging in front of the front center armrest in case you forget which 911 you are sitting in.

Coming to the seats, the standard ones are electrically adjustable for height and support, while the fore and aft movement has manual adjustment. The seats are trimmed in a mix of leather and Race-Tex material with an all-black theme. The headrests get a GT3 badging on them. The seats are heated and offer a decent amount of comfort and hold you well while taking sharp corners. Those who like a much better setup can opt for 18-way power-adjustable sports seats, while carbon-fiber sports bucket seats are also available. The carbon-fiber bucket seats are 26 pounds lighter than the standard ones. As for the 911 GT3, to save weight, you don’t get rear seats; instead there is a felt-lined carpet with some damping provided.

When it comes to interior space, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 63 S, being a four-seater, will always be more spacious than the two-seater coupes like the Audi R8, Jaguar F-Type R, and the Porsche 911 GT3. In between the coupes, the Jaguar F-Type R with 43-inches of legroom and 56.5-inches of shoulder room offers better cabin space than the Audi R8. Moving to the trunk space, once again the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 63 S with 12.7 cubic feet of trunk space is on top. The Jaguar F-Type R with 11.8 cubic feet of trunk space comes next, while the Porsche 911 GT3 with 4.6 cubic feet of the front trunk is the least practical among all. Highlights of the interior features include:

Exterior
8.0/10

If not for the front bumper with large air intakes and a big rear wing, the looks of Porsche 911 GT3 could be passed on as a regular Porsche 911 by an average Joe. Porsche designers have made few changes to the looks of the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3. The front fascia has been re-designed to increase the downforce and provide better cooling. To reduce the overall weight and impart strength to the plastic parts, the 911 GT3 now gets carbon-fiber-reinforced plastics used all around in place of regular plastic. Apart from that, the 911 GT3 also gets a vented hood cover, an adjustable front spoiler, and GT3 specific side skirts.

At the rear, along with the fixed rear spoiler, you get a downward-facing swan-neck manually-adjustable rear wing. The new downward-facing rear spoiler has been introduced to increase the aerodynamic efficiency and downforce. The manually adjustable wing spoiler, fixed rear spoiler, and manually adjustable front lip spoiler can be adjusted to their maximum limit to work in conjunction and provide a 150 percent increase in downforce compared to the previous 911 GT3. Apart from that, few notable features include 20-inch front and 21-inch rear forged aluminum-alloy wheels and one-piece 3D LED taillights.

2022 Porsche 911 GT3 vs 2021 Audi R8

The 2021 Audi R8 is one hell of a beast when it comes to power and performance. It does faster 0-60 mph, has better gas mileage, and offers better practicality in form of bigger trunk space compared to the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3. But all this is dwarfed by the sheer driving pleasure and handling of the Porsche 911 GT3. Take the Audi R8 to the track, and the Porsche 911 GT3 will rip it to the bones. Take the Audi R8 to serpentine roads, and the Porsche 911 GT3 will handle and take turns with the accuracy and swiftness of a ballet dancer. So in all sense, for a driving enthusiast, the Porsche 911 GT3 will always be above the Audi R8.

2022 Porsche 911 GT3 vs 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 63 S

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 63 S is a four-seater, spacious, and practical sports car compared to the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3. The 911 GT3 will always grab eyeballs on the streets, while the AMG GT 63 S is a sleeper and the majority of the average Joes won’t even be able to tell it apart from the regular Mercedes-Benz with AMG body kit. That said, the AMG GT 63 S is not only more powerful than the Porsche 911 GT3 but is also three-tenths of a second faster in a 0-60 mph run. Since both the cars are priced very close to each other, so the mind says go for the AMG GT 63 S, but the heart will always be with the 911 GT3.

2022 Porsche 911 GT3 vs 2021 Jaguar F-Type R

The 2021 Jaguar F-Type R is the only car with a supercharged V8, which makes it a kind of special car in this comparison. The growl and power surge of the supercharged V8 are addictive, but the much better engineered Porsche 911 GT3 is still faster than the Jaguar F-Type R. Although the Jaguar offers better mileage and practicality compared to the Porsche, the British gentleman is no match to the Stuttgart brute.

Final Verdict

The 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 has improved over the last model and comes with better performance and handling on offer. The 911 GT3 is an enthusiast car and a rare crop to come with a manual transmission at no extra cost. Porsche has nailed once again the design of the car, and those upside-down rear wings look sick. While those who don’t like the massive rear wing can go with the soon launching 2022 Porshe 911 GT3 with Touring Package. It comes with a genteel exterior and a deleted rear wing to make it easy to blend in with the urban traffic without attracting much attention. Thus if you have a couple of hundred thousand dollars lying with you, then the Porsche 911 GT3 especially with the six-speed manual would be the best use of that money.
