If we were to name a performance luxury coupe worthy of claiming one of the top spot in the Editor’s Choice List, we can’t help but put the Porsche 911 Turbo’s name forward and why not?
If we were to name a performance luxury coupe worthy of claiming one of the top spot in the Editor’s Choice List, we can’t help but put the Porsche 911 Turbo’s name forward and why not? Look at the exterior which begs a second attention. Step inside and you are greeted with pristine cabin with high quality materials. And we get it! Pricy options might be the one of the rare flaw that the 911 Turbo holds but when you look at the freedom of customization which is there, this con seems to disappear.

No matter which trim you pick the range of customization has no bounds when it comes to Porsche. Therefore, what everything really comes down to is the performance and the raw power you desire. We think that the Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe is already punchy enough to give the athletic experience you desire. However, it is up to you whether 572 horses are enough or not. Lastly, we would rather pitch for the coupe version of the 911 Turbo rather than the cabriolet one.
The 2022 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe is available in the market.
The turbo tag on the Porsche 911 lineup really steps up the game in terms of power. The 2022 Porsche 911 Turbo houses a 3.8-liter twin-turbo boxer/flat-6 engine which is married to an 8-speed PDK automatic transmission. It churns out 572 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. The power is given to rear wheels since RWD is the only drivetrain setup on offer. With this arrangement, the 911 Turbo shoots like a bullet from the barrel and crosses the 60 mph mark from a standstill in 2.7 seconds, and can achieve a top track speed of 199 mph.No satisfied with the engine output and you still want an extra dose of adrenaline rush then Porsche has the 911 Turbo S prepared in its inventory.
The Turbo S has the same engine as the base trim but the output is increased by 68 horses and 37 lb-ft of torque. This engine cut out 0.1 seconds from 0-60 mph timing and the speed dial reach 205 mph. That said, other than fiery acceleration, the Porsche 911 Turbo is very stable on the road. It is easy to handle the corners, and because of the smaller footprint and width, taking it out from narrow roads is not a big deal. The steering wheel is extremely precise. Optional features such as PASM Sport Suspension, Power Steering Plus, front axle lift system, and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control, further uplift the overall driving capabilities of the Porsche 911 Turbo.

As the fastest performance coupe in the competition, the Porsche 911 Turbo is enjoying the view from the top spot. However, rivals are not bad either. Following the 911 Turbo’s lead, the McLaren 570S does the 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds. Though, the third place is a tricky position where the Aston Martin Vantage can go slightly faster when 0-60 mph is considered. Nonetheless, ignoring a few milliseconds, it reaches 62 mph from the state of rest 0.4 seconds earlier than the rival from McLaren. Last but not least, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT C Coupe accelerates from 0-60 mph 0.9 seconds later than the 911 Turbo. Meanwhile, the BMW 8 Series M850i xDrive (4.4-liter M twin power turbo V8) is the only opponent with the AWD system and puts out 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. It sprints from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. On the other hand, another potential contender, the Audi R8 Coupe (5.2-liter V10) produces 562 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. It manages to hit 60 mph at the same time as required by the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT C.
The 2022 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe returns 15 MPG in the city, 20 MPG on the highway, and eventually gives 17 MPG combined. Add the 17.6-gallon fuel tank into the equation and it will offer a combined range of 300 miles, city range of 264 miles, and highway range of 352 miles. And even If Turbo S is selected, as per EPA, the fuel economy figures do not change.

The BMW M850i xDrive shares nearly the same fuel economy numbers as the Aston Martin Vantage but it can store 1.3 gallons less fuel in the tank. Furthermore, the Audi R8 Coupe and the Aston Martin Vantage Coupe have the same fuel storage capacity but the R8 offers 4, 1, and 3 MPG less in the city, on the highway, and combined respectively compared to the Vantage. Next in line, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT C has the biggest fuel tank but the McLaren 570S is slightly more efficient than it.

The Porsche 911 Turbo and the BMW 8 Series M850i xDrive are the only two-door coupes that have a seating capacity of four. However, the latter car is more spacious than the former one because of the leading length and wheelbase in the competition. Furthermore, the BMW 8 Series M850i xDrive also has the largest trunk capacity and is followed by the Aston Martin Vantage, Mercedes-Benz AMG GT C, Audi R8, and Porsche 911 Turbo. However, when the trunk space in the Turbo coupe with seats folded amounts to 9.3 cu-ft.

The heaviest coupe in the competition is the BMW M850i xDrive with a curb weight of 4478 lbs whereas the lightest one is the McLaren 570S. The Porsche 911 Turbo has the shortest wheelbase while the largest one belongs to the rival from BMW. At the same time, the Aston Martin Vantage is the shortest while the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT C is the longest among the bunch.
Highlights of the exterior features are:
High-end luxury cars, especially sports cars, do not get tested either by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). However, the 2022 Porsche 911 Tubo does come with standard safety features such as cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, a backup camera, and forward collision mitigation. In the list of optional features remote park assist with lane change assist and 3D surround view, surround-view camera system, night vision assist, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, lane change assist, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and more are included.
Highlights of the safety features are:
With a mid-engine layout and sleeky exterior design, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT C Coupe is no less charming and exciting to drive than its Porsche counterpart. Yes, it is not as quick as the Porsche 911 Turbo and is slightly more thirsty on the highway but having a cheaper price tag plus higher fuel storage capacity and cargo space works in the favor of the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT C Coupe. However, overall it loses on the practicality front. But overcoming all shortcomings of the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT C, the BMW M850i really tries to steal the show from the Porsche 911 Turbo.
The Aston Martin Vantage is nearly as fast as the Audi R8 but still lags behind the Porsche 911 Turbo. In terms of exterior looks and interior design, the Vantage Coupe is a stealer. Additionally, it consumes less fuel than any other car in the competition which gives it more brownie points. The Aston Martin Vantage Coupe does have less interior space but it tries to counter this disadvantage by offering more space in the trunk. If overall driving dynamics are considered, the Vantage gives a tough competition to the 911 Turbo.
The Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe is not only more affordable but also quicker on its feet than the McLaren 570S. While, the built quality of the McLaren 570S is on par with the Porsche 911 Turbo, the degree of customization is more in the latter coupe. The McLaren 570S offers better fuel efficiency and a bigger fuel tank in comparison to the Porsche 911 Turbo, its low passenger capcality gives more attention to the 911 Tubro. However, if only looks were the factor of winning then we would happily crown the McLaren 570S.
A never ageing design, practical cabin, and class leading driving capabilities, the Porsche 911 Turbo truly commands the luxury perfomance coupe segment. The BMW 8 Series M850i xDrive comes and seduces with a more pocket friendly price tag, the McLaren 570S hypotizes with its beauty, the Aston Martin Vantage’s fuel efficiency makes one it one alluring option, but despite all the efforts from rivals, the 2022 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe is still the best deal in the segment.
