Overall Rating
The 2022 Porsche Macan has been launched in the market at a price of $54,900 with updated engine specs, exteriors, and interiors. While everyone was expecting the debut of the electric model in 2022, the Porsche Macan EV is planned for 2023. The Macan Turbo is no longer available, while the lineup still continued with the S and the GTS models, with the GTS being the new flagship of the lineup.
Porsche has launched the 2022 Macan SUV in the market for a price of $54,900 (excluding $1,350 for delivery, processing, and handling). The Stuttgart-based carmaker has given the Macan much-needed updates both on the outside and on the inside and will launch an all-electric Macan by 2022. It also gets more power and torque as standard compared last year from its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, with the figures rated at 261 hp and 295 lb-ft, respectively. Transmission duties on all 2022 Macan models are performed by a 7-Speed PDK Dual-Clutch gearbox. The top speed of the 2022 Macan is rated at 144 mph, with 0-60 mph time of 5.8 seconds.
For those who aren't satisfied with the standard Macan, Porsche has announced an all-new top-of-the-line GTS Model priced at $79,900 that comes with a 434 hp 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 generating 406 lb.-ft. of torque with an ability to do 0 to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 169 mph. Between the Macan and the Macan GTS is the Macan S, priced at $65,400, which comes with a 375 hp and 383 lb.-ft. of torque producing 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 with a 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 160 mph.
There is not much to recommend when it comes to the 2022 Porsche Macan. Being available only in one trim option, the latest iteration feels luxuriously appointed. It gets features like three-zone climate control, a multi-functional steering wheel, and premium leather upholstery, the Macan makes for an opulent choice in a sporty silhouette.

Porsche has updated the styling of the 2022 Macan on both the outside and on the inside and also made changes in the model lineup with only the Macan, Macan S, and the Macan GTS on offer. Coming in at $54,900, the ride is offered as a standalone trim with all of the bells and whistles of the moniker. With the facelift and power increase, the Porsche gets a redesigned center console on the inside and an HD Touchscreen unit with standard Apple Car Play and Navigation but no Android Auto.
The center console does away with a lot of buttons and rather gets a lot of haptic feedback elements spread uniformly across the console. The other features like 3-zone climate control, 4.8-inch digital driver display, and power-adjustable seats are available as standard as last year. The 2022 Macan also gets new interior packages with deviated stitching in Papaya, Gentian Blue, and Chalk as options.

We give the 2022 Macan an 8 out of 10 for its superb handling, ride quality, and power- The Car Connection
Porsche Retains the 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 cylinder engine making 248 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, but for the 2022 Macan, Porsche has tuned the engine to now make 261 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The 7-speed Porsche Doppelkuplung automatic transmission is carried forward and power will go to the AWD drivetrain as standard. If you think this is lacking in power, the New S and GTS engines making 375 hp and 434 hp, respectively, have you covered.
While it is actually a compact SUV, the breezy driving charisma of the 2022 Macan has been honed further by the refinement in the engine. According to the automaker, the changes have been made for the Sport mode where the buyers can get better throttle response and overall better driving manners. The 2022 Macan is fast as well with a top speed of 144mph and a 5.8 second time for the 0-60 mph sprint.

With the increase in power, the Porsche matches the Audi Q5 which makes 261 hp, but the 2022 Porsche Macan delivers more torque. The Mercedes Benz GLC-Class sits in second place with its power figures and then comes the cost-efficient BMW X3 shows everyone how it's done as it has the lowest performance specs and yet posts respectable acceleration times. The 2022 Porsche Macan comes with a towing capacity of 4,409 lbs.
Being fuel-efficient has never really been the Macan's forte. However, with the minor power increase, the 2022 Macan will possibly give mpg figures lower than the 2021 Macan. The 2021 model offers 19 mpg in the city, 23 mpg on the highway, and 21 mpg combined. We reckon the EPA estimate in the city and combined to drop my 1 mpg to give 18 mpg and 20 mpg, respectively.
The Macan comes with a 19.8-gallon fuel tank and is what we expect will carry on to the 2022 Macan. However, like the Panamera and Cayenne which went ahead and offered Hybrid models, Porsche has decided to introduce an electric variant called Macan EV which is currently undergoing extensive testing and is slated to release in 2023.

To compensate for its low gas mileage Porsche has given the Macan a bigger 19.8 gallons fuel tank. However, even with the bigger fuel tank, the Macan in its current model specification still offers lesser mpg numbers than the BMW X3, the Audi Q5, and also Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class. The 2022 Macan which could have lesser mpg numbers could see a lesser range than the three.
The interior of the Macan is driver-centric, but it’s also quite comfortable for the front-seat passenger - KBB
Now things will look similar in the interior of the 2022 Porsche Macan too, but with an updated center console. The 2022 Macan gets a new HD 10.9-inch touchscreen, similar to one found in the 911 and Taycan models, this removes many physical buttons which makes the center console is now fully haptic responsive. There is also a shorter gear selector, and also a new steering wheel which will also be similar to the 911 and Panamera models.
Aside from these three updates, the cabin will remain pretty much the same. Both the front row and second row will get the same comfortable seats. The front ones will be 8-way adjustable and there will also be an optional 14-way electric with memory settings and the added option of adaptive sport seat in front which will be 18-way adjustable. Despite Porsche not sharing the dimensions, the rear seats offer ample space for comfortable seating, which will continue this year.

PCM or Porsche Connect Infotainment system is probably among the most intuitive and engaging systems on offer. Android Auto has been given a miss for this year as well but Apple Car Play continues to be on offer. Unlike last year, the new PCM will be much faster and smoother. Owing to that the screen transitions will be slicker and the experience intuitive.
As seen in the spy shots, you will also get two knobs underneath the new infotainment screen, which hopefully adjust the volume and temperature setting similar to the ones in the Panamera. Some of the notable interior and infotainment features expected on Macan are as follows:
The 2022 Macan’s powertrain updates are the biggest news, but Porsche didn’t stop there. The revised model gets freshened front styling with new air intakes and body-color bumper trim, along with a new, taller rear diffuser - Cars.com
The 2022 Porsche Macan gets much-needed updates on the outside as well. To start with, the vents on the front bumper have been redesigned. There is a change in the door designs with the side blades on the lower parts of the doors are now removed. Also standard are LED headlights and standard Sport Design exterior mirrors.
Coming to the rear end there’s a new rear diffuser that is larger than the last model and the red markers are now in this black element, unlike in the last model which was on the bumper. The exhaust design has also been changed and the quad exhaust pipes are now integrated into cutouts on each side similar to what you get on a Macan S or GTS model. Despite being the entry-level SUV in Porsche’s line-up, the Macan looks and feels as imposing as its elder cousin, the Cayenne.

Crash testing a Porsche is news that you might hear only in your wild imaginations. Like before the 2022 Porsche Macan is not in line to get a crash test from the NHTSA or the IIHS despite having the best sales figures for the brand. Why? Because the costs of building a Macan and the costs of crashing one are too high. That being said, the 2022 Macan does not treat safety features as a liability.
Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, the 2022 Macan packs a lot of safety features as standard fitment. From active safety features to driver assistance features, and even passive safety tech, you will be surprised how many features are packed in such a small frame. Some of the highlight safety features of the 2022 Porsche Macan are:
The 2021 BMW X3 continues to be the crown king of safety in the segment. It comes with the best driver tech in the business along with an overall magnanimous build. The interior is spacious, practical, minimalist, and is one of the best places for a family-friendly daily driver. With a dash of luxury in every element, it looks upscale and menacing as well. Furthermore, it offers the best MPG figures despite being underpowered. The only place it is beaten out by the Porsche Macan is the dynamism of the drive that the Bimmer seems to lack.
The 2022 Audi Q5 has been pumped up this time around. Despite being a distant corporate cousin to Porsche, it is different in almost all aspects. While the Macan is a fervent believer of driver enthusiasm, the Audi Q5 is the practical family driver that is also fun. The Audi Q5 is the most powerful in this lineup and even then, it offers one of the best MPG figures. Furthermore, the interior is more spacious with more cargo space. Hence, if you favor practicality more than the fun of the drive, then the Audi Q5 is the one to pick since it is also priced lower.Â
The 2021 Mercedes Benz GLC-Class is the opulent majesty of the lineup. With the brand's legacy of being the ultra-opulent chariot, the GLC 300 continues to advance the cause dauntlessly. It is one of the most powerful ones in this lineup but comes up short in terms of accelerating. However, for the lower price, the drive experience is still quite exhilarating as compared to the rest and only marginally lesser than the Porsche. That being said, it more than makes up for it with an immersive, technologically advanced, and comfortably luxurious interior that will simply spoil you.
With all the updates to the specs, interiors, and exteriors, for a price of $54,900, the 2022 Porsche Macan is a no-brainer. With a premium, comfortable, new tech-filled interior, and a more powerful engine, the 2022 Porsche Macan raises the benchmark for the competition even higher. Being an SUV, it is practical with a punchy performance streak like a 911 Carrera. Though we hoped the Macan EV would arrive this year, we don't mind waiting for it until 2023 since the automaker will surely have surprises planned for their first EV SUV baby. Hence, we would definitely recommend keeping the 2022 Macan on top of your consideration list when you go out searching for your next car.
