Overall Rating
Having recently got a facelift, the 2022 Porsche Panamera just gets two new colors and Android Auto compatibility. It gets the same 2.9-liter V6 turbocharged motor producing 325 hp that takes 5.3 seconds to reach 60 mph. Expect a late 2021 release with prices ranging between $89,750 for the base variant while the GTS Sport Turismo comes at an MSRP of $136,900.
Porsche recently facelifted the Panamera for the 2021 model year and the 2022 Porsche Panamera fixes one thing that many buyers missed, the inclusion of Android Auto, as one of the more significant changes for the 2022 model year. Along with that, there are 2 more colors added and is available for sale at a price of $88,400 excluding the $1,350 destination fees. It is powered by a 327 hp turbocharged V6 engine that can do 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds and is offered in RWD guise as standard.
Porsche offers the Panamera in as many as 9 different variants which include, the AWD Panamera 4, Panamera GTS, a Panamera Turbo S, and a hybrid Panamera 4 E plug-in hybrid. The 2022 Panamera finds its competition in the premium midsize sedan segment against the likes Audi A7, BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe, Maserati Ghibli, and Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class all of which also have a coupe-like styling to offer.Â
Since there are no trim levels on offer and Porsche does not offer as many features and technology as standard, therefore it would not be a bad option to add the Premium package which adds a lot more value to the car. Other than that, there are plenty of personalization options available to build the car as per personal tastes and needs.

"This broad lineup is expensive at every step of the way, but the Panamera somehow justifies its exorbitant price tag." - Thecarconnection
The Porsche Panamera has always been known for its handling which varies amongst its 8 trim levels, of which we’ll cover the Panamera, the Panamera 4, and the Panamera 4S. The trims are essentially the same feature-wise but the Panamera 4 adds an AWD while the 4S bumps up the output to 443 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. There's also a GTS variant starting over $130,700 that gets even more power rated 473 hp and 457 lb-ft.
Similar to other Porsche cars, the Panamera gets plenty of options and customization packages to better spec and personalize the Panamera to individual needs. The Premium package costs $8,170 and adds active air suspension, a Bose audio system, Porsche Dynamic Light System, 4-zone climate control, soft-close doors, heated front & rear seats and ventilated front seats. The Assistance package adds adaptive cruise control, head-up display, and surround-view cameras for $4,550.

"Drivers who seek an opulent, serene vehicle may have options, but for enthusiasts, the Panamera delivers a genuinely sporty, genuinely Porsche driving experience." - Motortrend
The 2022 Porsche Panamera is powered by a 2.9L turbocharged V6 engine under its hood as standard that produces 326 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission which powers the rear wheels as standard. There is also a Panamera 4 that gets the same powertrain with AWD capabilities for an additional $4,600. Opting for the Panamera 4S ups the engine output from the same V6 unit to 443 hp and 445 lb-ft.
The transmission is smooth, quick, and well-tuned, as we expect from Porsche. The ride and handling is also on point, just as any other Porsche 911 coupe. It offers a sporty and comfortable ride based on the drive modes that you have chosen. Opting for the optional adaptive air suspension brings out another side to the car. The ride is always composed, sure-footed and agile that loves to dart into corners, and also handles highway cruising effortlessly.
The performance from the base engine is plenty as it can do the 0-60 mph sprint in just 5.3 seconds and has a top speed of 145 MPH. Opting for the Sport Chrono package will up this top speed to 168 MPH and will also bring down the 0-60 by two-tenth of a second. The Panamera 4 will do the same in 5 seconds flat while the more powerful 4S does it in 4.1 seconds. It also has strong brakes that can do the 60-0 mph test in just 102 feet of braking distance.

Both the Audi and BMW are neck-to-neck in terms of engine output and acceleration performance, but the 8-series Gran Coupe is pricier by around $15,000 than the Audi. The Ghibli is cheaper than Panamera by roughly $7,000 and manages to match its acceleration timings. The Audi A7 is the most affordable one here and yet features a mild-hybrid powertrain along with the Quattro AWD drivetrain as standard.
"The Panamera is a luxury 4-door for buyers who really want a Porsche 911, but need more practicality from their daily driver." - Caranddriver
Since there are no changes made to the powertrain, the 2022 Porsche Panamera returns identical MPG figures this year as well. This means it will return a maximum of 24 MPG on the highways and will return 20 MPG combined. Thanks to a large 23.7-gallon fuel tank on offer, the driving range is pretty impressive at over 450 miles combined. Opting for the Panamera 4 E hybrid will give 52 MPGe and 22 MPG combined once the battery is depleted.

Porsche clearly does not do well in this regard and that is evident through the MPG figures. The BMW 8-series is the most frugal of the lot, offering 5 MPG more in the city and highway combined driving conditions. The A7 returns 1 MPG less even with its mild-hybrid tech on offer. The Ghibli on the other hand returns almost identical fuel economy figures as that of the Panamera, but the smaller gas tank limits its driving range.
"Plush, hushed and ready for the rush, the cabin of the 2022 Panamera is undeniably classy and luxurious with superb materials and build quality." - KBB
The interior of the 2022 Porsche Panamera is as modern and cutting-edge as it gets. Almost everything is controlled either by touchscreen or touch-sensitive buttons. The large infotainment screen sits flush and neatly on the dashboard while the analog tachometer is flanked by two HD screens on either side in the gauge cluster. The fit and finish is top-notch while the material quality is amongst the best. Apart from the standard leather, one can also get wood, Race-Tex, carbon fiber, and aluminum as well.Â
As standard, only 4 people can be seated in the Panamera as the middle rear seat is optional. That said, it would not be recommended to opt for the bench seat as the bucket seats offer utmost comfort. You sit quite low in the Panamera but even tall drivers will appreciate the space on offer. The 17.6 cu-ft of trunk capacity is pretty large and very usable and yet one can fold down the rear seats to open up a maximum of 47.3 cu-ft of cargo space.Â

Both the Porsche Panamera and the Maserati Ghibli offer similar cabin space and identical trunk capacity. The Audi A7 feels the most spacious at the rear with its superior legroom on offer and it also has a much larger boot to offer as well. The BMW is equally spacious but loses out in the cargo capacity which is 2 cu-ft lesser than the Panamera. While the sharp-looking 12.3-inch infotainment screen looks awesome and finally feels complete with all the tech it has to offer.
Porsche has now finally offered Android Auto along with Apple CarPlay compatibility to its infotainment system and the touchscreen is quick, sharp, and intuitive to use in all scenarios. The 10-speaker audio system is just fine but opting for either the $1,600 14-speaker Bose audio system or the 21-speaker Burmester 3D surround sound system for $7,530 would not be a bad choice. One can also opt for a rear-seat entertainment system for an additional $2,760.
"Sleek, sporty, modern, refined - the Panamera is complete package." - Edmunds
While the facelift last year did well for the Panamera, the 2022 Porsche Panamera still looks like an elongated Porsche 911. Upfront, the swept-back headlights with a sleek grille and a long sloping hood look very stylish. The coupe-like rear end is a mixed bag as the execution to make it look like a 911 has been done on point, if suits your style is up to you. The sides have two creases with an air dam on the front fender and the yellow-painted brakes stand out as well.
Apart from the standard LED headlights and taillights, there is a panoramic sunroof, adaptive rear spoiler, and 19-inch Panamera wheels offered as standard. Porsche does not limit their cars to just handful of colors and the 2022 Panamera too is available in practically any color you want, provided you are willing to pay a hefty price for it. In fact, one can get the Satin Aurum wheels for $4,460, which is just fancy wordplay for gold wheels and a set of 21-inch body-colored Sport wheels will set you back by $5,500.

The 2021 Porsche Panamera and BMW 8 Series provide maximum ground clearance after the Panamera, while the Audi A7 has a hunkered down low stance. The Ghibli is wider and taller than the A7 and yet is the lightest of the lot. The 8-series Gran Coupe is the largest sedan here and yet weighs less than the A7, which is the heaviest due to its standard AWD system.
"We look at the huge price difference between the Panamera and equivalent cars from rivals and can't help but feel a bit cheated. Porsche charges some serious cash for every little bit you want to add to the car." - Carbuzz
The 2022 Porsche Panamera comes with an endless set of safety features carried forward from last year, although most of them are optional. Porsche claims, the Panamera now gets a reinforced chassis which is now stronger and more stable than before and has more rigidity as well. The IIHS and NHTSA have not tested this flagship Porsche sedan for obvious reasons but Porsche says that the safety of occupants has been the highest priority while designing this new-gen sedan.
While the Porsche Panamera is far more expensive than the A7, the Audi A7 is around half a second quicker off the mark. It is also the more frugal amongst the two and also has a more spacious cabin and trunk. But what Audi does not offer is the impressive ride and handling and the innumerable ways of customizing the car, but all of which come for a price. So, unless you have deep pockets, the Audi A7 seems like a more practical choice.
2022 Porsche Panamera vs 2022 BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe
Both the Panamera in 8-series are priced very close to each other, but the BMW triumphs in both the acceleration and frugality tests. That said, the Panamera has a much more engaging yet comfortable ride and even has a more premium and sophisticated cabin. The larger trunk and endless personalization options make it the preferred choice between the two.
2022 Porsche Panamera vs Maserati Ghibli
The Ghibli is considerably cheaper than the Panamera but is only marginally quicker. It is a good handler and returns similar MPG figures. That being said, it has a poor reputation in the market for its reliability and it too costs a fortune once you start adding the options and packages. It is also no match to the ride comfort and agile handling of the Porsche, which makes the Panamera worth the additional investment over the Ghibli.
The 2022 Porsche Panamera offers great value as standard with its potent performance, typical Porsche handling, and classy interior. Add to that, the 4-door saloon offers great levels of comfort and luxuries without even compromising on the fun or practicality. The only caveat here would be the exponential rise in prices when customizing or opting for the packages.
