The Jetta felt responsive pulling away from stoplights - Car And Driver
The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta is expected to carry forward the same 2021 model's powertrain - a 1.4L turbocharged inline-4 which makes 147 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. The engine will be paired to a 6-speed manual in its standard configuration with power going to the front wheels only. An 8-speed automatic is available as an option but comes standard on the SEL and SEL Premium trims.
With making just 147 hp, we do not expect to have really good numbers in terms of performance as the Jetta is best suited as a daily driver. The 2022 Jetta is expected to come with no mechanical changes will do 0-60 in 7.6 seconds and the quarter-mile in 16 seconds and will continue to a top speed of 127 mph. The Jetta cabin is pleasing and ergonomically sound - Kelley Blue Book (KBB)
On the inside, the 2022 Volkswagen is expected to carry a similar and typical Volkswagen interior layout as the 2021 Jetta. However, the interior will see minor design changes and also changes in finishings to offer a more premium feel to the cabin. The interior will feature manually adjustable seats on the base trim with cloth upholstery.
As you go higher up you will see a power-adjustable driver's seat with leatherette and leather upholstery and also heating functions for the front row seats and steering wheel. Dual-zone Climatronic automatic climate control is standard from the SE trim and higher. There is no change in cargo space and the 2022 Jetta will offer 14.1 cu.ft. of cargo space.

Apart from the SEL and SEL Premium trims which come with an 8.0-inch touchscreen, the other trims come with a 6.5-inch touchscreen. For 2022, we do expect the 8-inch infotainment system as standard we expect it to come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice commands, Bluetooth connectivity, USB ports, and navigation (standard on higher trims). The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta has not yet completed its crash-testing for the NHTSA, in the tests conducted the 2022 Jetta got 5-stars in side crash-testing and 4-stars in rollover testing. The IIHS has not yet crash-tested the 2022 Jetta but has crash-tested the 2021 model giving it an overall score of "Good".
Volkswagen will continue with the number of safety and driver-assist features it offers which include a rearview camera, blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking. Higher trims have adaptive cruise control and lane-Keep assist. We expect the base S trim to get more standard driver-assist features with the 2022 facelift.

The Honda Civic makes more power, but does not offer better performance, nor does it offer better fuel economy. It offers more cargo space while offering the same amount of interior space. However, the Honda Civic is more expensive than the Jetta by over $1,500, making it a good option to consider.
With the Hyundai Elantra having revived a visual upgrade for the 2021 model year it does look a lot more futuristic than the Jetta and is more spacious on the interior than the VW Jetta. However, the Jetta does have better performance, better driving range, while offering the same amount of power as the Elantra.
The Kia Forte comes with the same amount of power as the Jetta but offers lesser performance. It does offer lesser fuel economy but offers slightly more driving range than the Volkswagen Jetta. On the interior, there is a similar amount of space but lesser cargo space. With a similar price, it does make a good option to consider.
The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta comes with a new face and possibly a new standard infotainment system and more standard driver-assist features to the base S trim. That said, it does come with much better performance than the competition and has a better driving range too. Moreover, with it will come at an expected price lower than the competition, making it a much more attractive offering.
