Used 2022 Volvo XC40 for sale 

The 2022 Volvo XC40 is expected to get the same trim levels and optional packages as last year, which are: Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription. Also, Volvo offers four optional packages: Premium, Vision, Advanced, and Multimedia package which will offer a lot more features.

The XC40 will continue to be offered with two drivetrain options. The T4 FWD version will get a turbocharged 2.0L Inline-4 engine that produces 187 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque paired with 8-speed automatic transmission. The T5 AWD version gets more power and torque at 248 hp and 258 lb-ft with an all-wheel-drive system.

But no matter the choice of powertrain, both come mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. That unit is extremely well-tuned to wring out maximum efficiency from the engine and the shifts are fairly on point. This makes driving the XC40 quite a pleasurable experience.

The XC40 in its T4 FWD configuration is the slowest performer of the lot, reaching 60 mph from 0 in 9.0 seconds. However, upgrading to the T5 AWD trim adds a lot more performance and a capable all-wheel-drive system that makes the SUV safer in tricky situations. Among competitors, the best performance is delivered by the BMW X1 followed by the GLA-Class SUV.

The XC40 will continue to offer similar mpg figures as last year since there are no drivetrain changes. We can expect economy ratings of 23 MPG in the city and 32 MPG on the highways, making up for a combined rating of 26 MPG for the base T4 version, while the T5 will offer slightly lower figures.

The fuel capacity is average at 14.2 gallons, which will give an effective range of around 450 miles on the highway. If you want your XC40 to be even more efficient, Volvo has also launched the XC40 Recharge, which is its first-ever electric vehicle. The Volvo XC40 Recharge is claimed to have a maximum range of 208 miles in mixed driving conditions.

The 2022 XC40 gets plenty of in-cabin features on offer. The vehicle comes with a typical Swedish design that is both functional and good-looking. Unlike some of its competitors, the XC40 continues to offer plenty of space inside for 5 passengers to travel comfortably. The Momentum and R-Design trim levels get a lot of sporty touches like orange carpeting, textured metallic inserts, and a better AC vent design that will appeal to youngsters. The top-end Inscription model gets a much classier design with wooden inserts and a unique shift knob crafted from Orrefors crystal.

The front seats are well designed with plenty of support on offer and they get leather upholstery as standard. Both the driver and front passenger gets 8-way power adjustability with memory function and power lumbar for the driver as standard. The R-design trim level gets perforated Nappa leather upholstery with unique design elements. The R-design and Inscription trim also get manual cushion extension for both driver and passenger for extra support. The rear seats are also surprisingly spacious for such a compact car, with plenty of headroom and legroom on offer.

The optional premium package adds power-folding rear backrest and power headrests for added convenience. The Inscription trim gets a panoramic sunroof and dual-zone climate control as standard, both of which are optional on the lower trim levels. The optional premium package adds a lot more features like wireless charging, semi-autonomous driving, keyless entry, and more. The XC40 comes with a small boot that can accommodate 20.7 cubic feet of cargo. With the rear seats folded flat, the capacity increases to a modest 47 cubic feet, which should be enough for most owners. There are plenty of cargo spaces on offer inside the cabin for added convenience. All models of the XC40 also get a power tailgate with programmable height.

For infotainment, Volvo continues to use its Sensus Connect infotainment system that comes with a huge 9-inch touchscreen display in the center. All models of the XC40 will get the 9-inch touchscreen Sensus Connect infotainment system that comes with features like Apple car play and Android Auto connectivity, Voice control, Bluetooth, and a premium sound system as standard. The optional multimedia package includes a 600 watt Harman Kardon sound system with 13-speakers for a studio-like experience and a Sensus navigation system. Hopefully, Volvo will fix the lagging issues that occur just after startup for the 2022 model year.

The XC40 continues to get a trendy and sportier look compared to its larger siblings. All three trim levels get distinctive design elements depending on what the customer prefers. The base Momentum trim gets a rather simple and confident design with an optional white roof on offer. The standard 19-inch wheels get a 5 spoke design with minimal design elements compared to higher trims.

The R-design trim looks the sportiest of the bunch with an R-design grille at the front, with gloss black frame, gloss black roof available with all exterior colors, and a lot more gloss black elements like door mirrors, window trims, and skid plates. The 19-inch alloy wheels also get a much sportier design. The Inscription trim is the most expensive and gets the most luxurious design with a chrome grille, stainless steel scuff plates, bright trims, and a panoramic moonroof, giving it an elegant and sophisticated design. 

Both the R-design and Inscription trims get badges on the C-pillar. Traditional Volvo design elements like Thor’s hammer LED headlights and LED taillights are present. The new Recharge model gets unique design elements like new wheels, and a new grille design which is filled in. Standard exterior features include LED headlights and daytime running lights with auto high beams, dual tailpipes, tinted windows, and roof rails.

Volvo added a lot more safety tech to the XC40 last year, which allowed it to receive exceptional ratings in all crash tests and it received the coveted “Top Safety Pick+” award from the IIHS. Other than the usual safety features like 7 airbags, anti-lock brakes, and electronic stability control, all models of the XC40 will come with active safety features like driver alert control, road sign information, lane-keeping assist, automatic braking after a collision, whiplash injury prevention system, run-off road mitigation, emergency crash notification and more. Opting for the vision and advanced package will add features like a blind spot information system with rear cross-traffic alert, park assist pilot, 360-degree camera, active bending headlights, and the capable pilot assist system with semi-autonomous driving and adaptive cruise control.

With a lot of optional packages on offer, the Volvo XC40 can vary greatly in price depending on the options selected. We can expect Volvo to launch the 2022 XC40 in the fall this year, and joining it will be the new all-electric XC40 Recharge model which will be priced quite a bit higher at $53,990.
