Overall Rating
The 2022 Volvo XC60 will be a carryover model from 2021 with only minor updates in the infotainment system and connectivity options. With a comfortable and luxurious interior, it will be launched in late 2021 for a starting price of $44,000. Under the hood, all three T6, T5, and T8 powertrain derived from the 2.0L Turbo I-4 will stay intact. The release of the 2022 XC60 Recharge will follow the standard one in early 2022. A redesigned model will be part of the next generation to be launched in 2023.
The 2022 Volvo XC60 comes with a host of changes and will come at a starting price of $42,650. The T5 and T6 powertrains in the XC60 have been phased out this year and replaced with B5 and B6 powertrains, both of which use a 48-volt hybrid system. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a 48-volt hybrid system provide 247 hp under the hood of base B5-badged XC60s. The B6 uses the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as the B5, but with a supercharger for 295 hp.
Inside the 2022 XC60, Volvo is also replacing Sensus infotainment system with a more contemporary Google Android-based interface derived from the electric XC40 Recharge. You also get the option to have Volvo's City Weave cloth upholstery for the interior in the 2022 XC60 There are upgrades to the exterior design of the 2022 Volvo XC60 with a  a tweaked grille, a re-worked front bumper and updated wheel designs.
The base trim is very well-equipped but the Inscription adds a fresh breath of posh air inside the cabin with immaculate materials and a comfortable experience altogether. As for the engines, the B6 makes more sense due to the punchier nature and the bump in output which is always welcome. To add to the already-long list of driver assistance features, the Advanced package does a lot of justice and makes the drive super safe.

The ride can feel a touch harsh when driving over rougher stretches of road, but on smooth sections it's agreeable and calm.- Car and Driver
The 2022 Volvo XC60 is expected to offer an update when it comes to the hybrid powertrain. However, for now, most information about it is high speculative as the carmaker has revealed little to no information about the newer model. The current model offers a choice of three engine options but all are four-cylinder motors. Volvo calls the three powertrains T5, T6, and T8, which all come mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Even with the 2022 model, the front-wheel-drive option will be offered as standard.
The base T5 engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder motor that makes 250 horsepower while the T6 is the same engine that has a supercharger added to it. It is capable of producing 316 horsepower and the more powerful of the bunch is the T8 hybrid-motor capable of churning out 415 horsepower. The 2022 model year will offer the same engine options with an updated electric motor.

As can be seen, the Volvo XC60 is at par in terms of power and torque figures with its rivals. What remains to be seen is how powerful the electric motors will be in order to make a difference in the performance. Also, as Volvo lacks a bit behind its main rivals in terms of torque, we can expect the 2022 model to offer even more torque.

Although slightly less powerful, fuel economy improves. - Motor Trend
The Volvo XC60 is not only known for its distinctive looks, but also its efficiency. What makes it an easy decision is the fact that the XC60 currently offers the best in class combined fuel efficiency of 26 mpg. Volvo has tuned the engine quite well as it does not seem that it compromises on performance as well as fuel efficiency.
The 2022 model is expected to offer a slightly better fuel economy than its competitors and predecessors. The fuel tank capacity is constant at 18.8 gallons, so you get an overall mileage count of 488.8 miles on full capacity. This is more than enough for any average Joe, however, we hope the 2022 model might offer a slightly bigger fuel tank.

The Volvo XC60 not only offers the best in class fuel efficiency but also one of the largest fuel tank capacity. This means that you have to stop less at the gas stations. However, the BMW X3 xDrive 30i still manages to offer better fuel efficiency in the city, compared to all its rivals. Thus, we can expect Volvo to focus on the fuel efficiency of the XC60, even more, this time.

Clean lines and high-quality materials add a distinctly Scandinavian flavor to the XC60's cabin—and we'd expect nothing less from a modern Volvo. - Car and Driver
Along with an exuberant and upmarket interior, the upcoming Volvo XC60 will offer a slew of convenience features on the inside. The cabin is quite comfortable and offers enough space for passengers in both rows. Volvo has added quite a bit of Scandinavian flavor to the inside as well and great attention to detail has been paid while designing the cabin.Â
The SUV offers decent cargo storage capacity which puts it right in the middle of the segment in terms of the cargo area. You also have an option to fold down the rear seats which can liberate space that is enough for 20 suitcases. The interior storage space is limited but the cabin quality is among the best in its class.

xterior changes are pretty subtle and center around small modifications to the front grille, a reprofiled front bumper, and new alloy wheel designs. - Kelley Blue Book

Volvo, as a brand, has always marketed the level of safety its cars provide. Thus, even today, Volvo cars are considered to be one of the safest in the industry. The 2021 Volvo XC60 received a 5-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and also received the Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS).
It offers a host of driver-assistance features that might see the next level of autonomy with the 2022 model year. That being said, the bare minimum features that you can see the new 2022 Volvo XC60 offering are:
In every aspect, the new Volvo XC60 manages to maintain hold up against the German competition. Despite the fact that Mercedes-Benz has greater power and torque, Volvo manages to keep up. Volvo also outperforms the Mercedes GLC in terms of mileage and interior space.
In terms of performance and power, the Volvo XC60 and the BMW X3 are nearly identical. They are also comparable in terms of fuel economy. When it comes to interior headroom, the Volvo XC60 falls short, making the BMW X3 feel more roomy. The BMW X3 is a little longer, but the Volvo XC60 has a little greater ground clearance. BMW X3 2021
In terms of performance and mileage, the new XC60 outperforms the Porsche Macan. Volvo provides superior performance, more standard safety features, and more power and torque than the latter. It also boasts higher mileage numbers than Porsche and appears to be a more promising vehicle to drive.
The Volvo XC60 is one of the most luxurious SUVs you can get today and with the 2022 model year, it is only going to get better. All set to be launched in late 2021, the 2022 Volvo XC60 will probably be the last model of this generation.
It will continue to enjoy the finest materials on the inside which are borrowed from its more expensive siblings and shall offer best-in-class fuel efficiency as well. All in all, if you are looking for a comfortable, luxurious, and safe SUV, the 2022 Volvo XC60 is worth waiting for.
