The 2022 Volvo XC60 gets mechanical changes done to it but the trim levels remain the same - Momentum, R-Design and Inscription. The prices for the Momentum start at $42,850 and features the B5 turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a 48-volt hybrid system making 247 horsepower. 

There is also the more powerful B6 engine that adds a supercharger to the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder for 295 hp. The base trim is very well-equipped but the Inscription adds a fresh breath of posh air inside the cabin with immaculate materials and a comfortable experience altogether. As for the engines, the B6 makes more sense due to the punchier nature and the bump in output which is always welcome. To add to the already-long list of driver assistance features, the Advanced package does a lot of justice and makes the drive super safe.

The 2022 Volvo XC60 is expected to offer an update when it comes to the hybrid powertrain. However, for now, most information about it is high speculative as the carmaker has revealed little to no information about the newer model. The current model offers a choice of three engine options but all are four-cylinder motors. Volvo calls the three powertrains T5, T6, and T8, which all come mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Even with the 2022 model, the front-wheel-drive option will be offered as standard.

The base T5 engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder motor that makes 250 horsepower while the T6 is the same engine that has a supercharger added to it. It is capable of producing 316 horsepower and the more powerful of the bunch is the T8 hybrid-motor capable of churning out 415 horsepower. The 2022 model year will offer the same engine options with an updated electric motor.

As can be seen, the Volvo XC60 is at par in terms of power and torque figures with its rivals. What remains to be seen is how powerful the electric motors will be in order to make a difference in the performance. Also, as Volvo lacks a bit behind its main rivals in terms of torque, we can expect the 2022 model to offer even more torque.

What makes it an easy decision is the fact that the XC60 currently offers the best in class combined fuel efficiency of 26 mpg. Volvo has tuned the engine quite well as it does not seem that it compromises on performance as well as fuel efficiency.

The 2022 model is expected to offer a slightly better fuel economy than its competitors and predecessors. The fuel tank capacity is constant at 18.8 gallons, so you get an overall mileage count of 488.8 miles on full capacity. This is more than enough for any average Joe, however, we hope the 2022 model might offer a slightly bigger fuel tank.

The Volvo XC60 not only offers the best in class fuel efficiency but also one of the largest fuel tank capacity. This means that you have to stop less at the gas stations. However, the BMW X3 xDrive 30i still manages to offer better fuel efficiency in the city, compared to all its rivals. Thus, we can expect Volvo to focus on the fuel efficiency of the XC60, even more, this time.

Along with an exuberant and upmarket interior, the upcoming Volvo XC60 will offer a slew of convenience features on the inside. The cabin is quite comfortable and offers enough space for passengers in both rows. Volvo has added quite a bit of Scandinavian flavor to the inside as well and great attention to detail has been paid while designing the cabin. 

The SUV offers decent cargo storage capacity which puts it right in the middle of the segment in terms of the cargo area. You also have an option to fold down the rear seats which can liberate space that is enough for 20 suitcases. The interior storage space is limited but the cabin quality is among the best in its class.

The 2022 XC60's Sensus infotainment system will be replaced with a more contemporary Google Android-based interface derived from the electric XC40 Recharge. The screen is the same 9.0-inch vertically oriented form as before, but updated software adds more customization choices, a voice-assistant function, and Google Maps navigation.
