The 2022 Volvo XC90 offers a 2.0L I-4 engine that has two different power curves but couples with the same 8-speed automatic transmission. The base engine is available with T5 trim pushing out 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. While, the twin-charged version of that engine is hosted inside the T6 configuration that can belt out 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. 

Speaking of the platform, the Volvo XC90 2022 features both FWD and AWD layouts. However, the FWD remains exclusive to the XC90 2022 T5 Momentum that upgrades to AWD after spending an extra $2,500. That being said, its off-road maneuvering is further assisted by its inherent long suspension travel. And, the aluminum double-wishbone complements the road holding performance and steering characteristics. 

In terms of performance, the Volvo XC90 does the 0-60 MPH in 7.5 seconds while the quarter-mile run ticks 15.7 seconds, in its base configuration. The 2.0L twin-charged engine does the same 0-60 sprint in 6.1 seconds. As far as towing is concerned, the rated capacity stays at 5,000 lbs for both powertrains. On the contrary, the 13.6-inch front and 12.6-inch rear disc brakes limit the surge along with Brake Assist and 4-wheel ABS. 

Coming on the comparison front, the XC90 Volvo 2022 seems to be 1.1 seconds slower than the Acura MDX in 0-60 MPH despite being almost $3,000 more expensive.
