Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2024 CR-V is quite a good crossover SUV, it has been quite a significant vehicle in its segment for a long time now, and the 2024 model is no different. The CR-V more or less feels like an all-rounder, it comes with a spacious and premium-ish interior, and the cabin overall is quite well-built and the interior is quite comfortable.

The J.D Power Consumer Rating of 81/100 for the Honda CR-V from last year can be considered as very good. For quality and resale it scored 82/100 and 84/100, respectively. However, it needs improvement in driving and dealership experience with score of 77 and 78 out of 100, respectively. Expect a 5-year cost of ownership of around $35,600 which is on par with its rivals.

Features
8.5/10

The 2024 model of the CR-V comes with 3 trims with gasoline engines and 2 trims with hybrid-engine. The three trims with gas engines are the: LX trim which comes for $30,825, the EX trim which comes for $33,335, and the EX-L trim which comes for $35,895. Some of the standard features include a 7-inch touchscreen, a 4-speaker sound system, LED headlights, and many other stuffs.

All three trims come with the same 1.5-liter Turbo Inline-4 engine and 1-speed CVT transmission. Also, front-wheel-drive comes as standard while all-wheel-drive is also available as an option. All three trims come with several features, the base trim comes with an adequate amount of features but is quite outdated.

The higher trims come with even more features than the standard ones but is only available with a hybrid powertrain. So the gas-only CR-V falls a bit behind in terms of features as many desirable modern features are offered only on the hybrid models. The rivals offer more value in terms of technology at the same price point.

2024 Honda CR-V LX features:

  • 17-inch alloy wheels
  • LED headlights & Push button start
  • 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system w/4-speaker audio system
  • Apple CarPlay and Andorid Auto compatibility
  • Forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking
  • Adaptive cruise control and Lane keep assist

2024 Honda CR-V EX features:

  • Power adjustable driver's seat
  • Heated front seats and side mirrors
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • 6-speaker audio system
  • Sunroof

2024 Honda CR-V EX-L features:

  • Front & rear parking sensors
  • Low-speed automatic braking
  • Power liftgate
  • Driver seat memory & leather interior upholstery
  • 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system w/8-speaker audio system
  • Wireless charging pad

Honda does not do options and packages as such and hence there's not much to look in that direction. Honda only offer accessories with the CR-V 2024 which include the $1,780 Utility package, $1,745 HPD package, and a couple of other protection packages.

2024 Honda CRV Release date

The 2024 CR-V has been already launched on June 14th 2023 and is available to order on the company website or at your nearest dealership.

Engine and Performance
6.0/10

The 2024 Honda CR-V is a crossover SUV, with a bold and sleek design, this gentle beast comes with a 1.5-liter Turbo Inline-4 engine under its hood, and along with 1-speed Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT), it produces around 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque. The power is sent to the front wheels as standard but there is AWD on offer as well.

The CR-V is known for its smooth and comfortable riding experience along with adept handling. The steering here is quite responsive and offers a good sense of the road. The suspension of the CRV is also quite well tuned, that absorbs bumps and imperfections quite well, and delivers a smooth and bump-less riding experience even at moderate speeds.

The CR-V crossover is clearly not the fastest but is certainly quick enough for its segment. It goes from 0-60 in just 8.3 seconds and has a top speed of 121 MPH. It might not be the fastest vehicle in the segment but it surely provides enough power to smoothly drive it through highways and cities. All the 3 trims come with the same 1.5-liter engine while the 2024 Honda CRV hybrid adds a 1.1-kWh battery pack.

While none of the aforementioned crossover are sporty in any way, but the new turbocharged motor under the hood of the Honda is clearly the quickest. That said, the CR-V is also the most comfortable riding of the lot. The Mazda on the other hand offers the sportiest ride and handling while the Tiguan is also beter suited for comfort.

Fuel Economy
6.0/10

The new Honda CR V 2024 base model provides impressive fuel economy fuel and a decent driving range. The estimated 2024 Honda CR-V EPA ratings are around 28 MPG when you’re navigating through cities, 34 MPG when you’re cruising through highways, and 30 MPG when you’re doing a bit of both.

The fuel tank capacity is around 14 gallons. And it provides around 392 miles of range in cities, 476 miles of range on highways, and 420 miles of range combined. Overall, the fuel efficiency and driving range of the Honda CR-V is on par with the segment standards.

The naturally aspirated motor under the hood of the Kia Sportage is still not the least frugal one in this comparison as the 2L turbo-4 from VW is the thirstiest one here. The 2024 CR-V Honda does really good here, returning good MPG figures even in real world conditions which has made it a crowd favorite.

Interior
9.0/10

The new 2024 Honda CR-V interior comes with a simple yet bold styling just like its predecessor, the interior is quite spacious and the seats are also comfortable. Now if we talk about the upholstery then we can see that cloth is used mainly. Also, the features provided inside the crossover give it a modern look and are available in 2 interior colors, black and gray.

The CR-V will have the same infotainment system with some minor tweaks here and there. Although it provides an adequate amount of features but many of them are quite outdated. But still, Honda has been adding more infotainment features year after year, and probably the infotainment system will get a fresh makeover in the next few years.

Also, Honda fails to provide as new and modern features as its competitors. Other than all the features and upholstery we can see that the space provided is quite impressive, yes it is quite spacious. The CR-V cargo space is one of the largest in its segment at 39.3 cu-ft while the interior is pretty practical too.

In terms of interior, the CR-V interior again leads the pack in terms of passenger and cargo space. While the Volkswagen Tiguan falls on the opposite end of spectrum in terms of passenger space, the Mazda CX-50 offers the smallest cargo space. The Kia Sportage has the most amount of features and practicality on offer but it is only the Tiguan with an option for a 7-seat configuration.

Standout interior features:

  • 6-way power driver seat w/seat memory function
  • Heated front seats
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel & leather upholstery
  • Wireless smartphone charging pad
  • 7-inch touchscreen& Digital instrument cluster
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration
  • 8-speaker audio system

Exterior
6.0/10

The exterior styling of the CR-V has received minimal to no updates on its exterior design, as it went through a complete redesign for the 2023 model. The current exterior look of the SUV is quite bold and aggressive. Also, there are many features and functions found on the outside of this SUV that can be called a standout feature.

The Honda comes with a few new colors to give the customers an even long array of colors to choose from. Overall the exterior of the exterior gives the CR-V a dominating presence whenever it takes a tool on the road, and the sleek lines with the bold looks along with a touch of aggressiveness, make it quite an attention catcher.

In terms of exterior, the CR-V is pretty compact in nature which aids maneuverability in the city. That said, the solid ground clearance is also pretty usefull for some rough roads. None of its rivals can take on off-roading either. That said, it is the Mazda that looks sportiest one here and would be our pick for its slick styling.

Safety
7.0/10

The 2024 CR-V comes with a lot of safety features and functions as standard. While Honda does offer many driver assists and safety aids, features like blind-spot monitor & rear-cross traffic are only availble with the higher hybrid models. Other than that the Honda SUV is quite a well-built vehicle and it comes with several airbags to enhance crash protection.

Overall in terms of safety Honda did not compromise even a bit. Although the NHTSA and the IIHS safety ratings of the vehicle are still not out, similar high scores like last year are expected from this year’s model as well. Previously, the CR-V earned a perfect 5-star rating from the NHTSA while the IIHS has awarded it with their prestigious "Top Safety Pick+" award last year.

Safety features include:

  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Full-speed forward collision warning
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane keep assist
  • Rear cross-path detection

Competition
8.0/10

2024 Honda CR-V vs. 2024 Kia Sportage

Both the CR-V and the Sportage fall under the midsize SUV segment, and both of these vehicles come with a lot of features but the Sportage comes with a lot more modern features and also it looks bolder. Even after being slightly cheaper, the Sportage offers more features and technology that the CR-V. While both brands offer great reliability and resale value, the higher efficiency and roomier cabin tilts the scales on CR-V's side.

2024 Honda CR-V vs. 2024 Mazda CX-50

A Mazda always grabs eyeballs for its style and then impresses with its potent and fun to drive powertrain, and the CX-50 is no different. The CR-V on the other hand looks modern and offers decent performance. That said, the higher reliablity, better safety, great efficiency and great cabin and cargo space just seals the deal for the Honda.

2024 Honda CR-V vs. 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan

While both the crossovers offer great interior space and practicality, the fit and finish is better in the Tiguan. That said, the Honda is more reliable in the long run, fetches better resale value and saves you plenty of gas money. The Tiguan is big on technology and has an option for 7 seats as well. Unless you need to have those additonal seats or driver aids, the CR-V should suit most buyers well.

Final Verdict
8.5/10

If you’re in the market looking for a midsize SUV that offers good performance, feels comfortable, and is reliable then the 2024 Honda CR-V is definitely worth a check. This midsize SUV comes with several features which are mostly easy to use but mostly looks outdated.

However, if you want to experience top-notch comfort and pleasure on the road with a midsize SUV then the CR-V will mostly meet your expectations. That said, as a comfortable family crossover and frugal commuter, no one comes closer.

Buying Advice

For the 2024 Honda CR-V, we will recommend the EX-L trim which is top-of-the-line trim with a gas engine. This trim features much more than the other two trims, some of the features that this EX-L trim comes with other than the standard features are: a 9-inch touchscreen, leather upholstery, an 8-speaker sound system, wireless smartphone charging pad, power-adjustable front seats and many more.

The Honda CR-V EX-L costs around $35,895 which is somewhere around $5,000 more than the base trim. Also, the features might feel a bit dated but still are quite easy to use. Overall this EX-L provides most of the CR-V and makes accommodates experience a smooth and comfortable ride.

Trim Wise Pricing Breakdown

Overview

The Honda CR-V does not need any introduction. After many decades of success, Honda recently took the initiave and the CR-V was redesigned just last year. The Honda CR-V 2024 comes with some minor changes to the trim lineup, adding a new Sport-L trim sitting between Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring trims. So, the addition of a new trim is the only considerable change and we won't complain.

The 2024 Honda CR-V price starts at $30,825 and goes all the way to $34,660 for the EX-L trim. Honda has unveiled most of its models for the 2024 model year with some considerable changes. With the tried and tested, 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, the 2024 Honda CR-V 0-60 sprint takes close to 8.3 seconds. Check out the video by savagegeese to learn what the Honda CR-V 2024 has to offer at its price point of under 50K

The 2024 model has already hit the market on June 14, and the specs of it are mostly going to be the same as it has not been too long since its last redesign and it featured a lengthier wheelbase, more spacious rear seats leg space, and also more cargo capacity. Currently, the CR-V continues to deliver a combination of functionality, comfort, and modern features. But some of its rivals have already closed the gap. The vehicles it goes against are the 2023 Kia Sportage, the 2024 Mazda CX-50, and the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan.

              2024 CRV Hybrid review

Pros - ["The space inside", "The new design", "User friendly radio"]

Cons - ["When you don't put the SUV in park, it can move and you won't hear it.", "The leather inside needs to be constantly maintained", "The gas mileage doesn't seem as good as I had hoped"]

I was really happy to see the new CRV model. I never cared for the recent models. The drive is nice, but I am disappointed in always having to clean the interior on. daily basis. Its also too quiet if you forget to put it in park so it's easy to roll and not hear anything
