The xDrive35i is plenty responsive and usable in daily driving with its high efficiency. We suggest skipping on the packages as the starting price for the SUV is already quite high. Though the dynamic handling package improves the driveability of the SUV by a bit, the base variant brings all that is necessary and makes up a value for money package.

The 2014 BMW X6 xDrive35i comes with a 3.0L turbocharged inline-6 engine that puts up 300 horsepower and 300 foot-pounds of torque. All-wheel-drive and an 8-speed automatic gearbox is standard across all X6s.

The X6 xDrive50i gets a 4.4L V-8 turbocharged moor making 400 horsepower and 450 foot-pounds of torque. The steering is precise and the car surprisingly has a very low body roll. The car performs well around corners and even has enough travel on the suspension to soak up heavy bumps.

The xDrive35i X6 zooms to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds, while the X6 xDrive50i does the same in 5.2 seconds. The superpowered, albeit similarly priced, Jeep Grand Cherokee does the same speed in 5.6 seconds, while the Land Rover Range Rover Sport with its 4WD lags behind and completes the same in 6.9 seconds. In top speed, Jeep Grand Cherokee is the fastest at 155 mph.

The 2014 BMW X6 returns pretty great fuel economy for its size. The xDrive35i offers 17 mpg in cities, 24 mpg on highways, and 20 mpg combined. The xDrive50i gives 14 mpg in cities, 21 mpg on highways, and 17 mpg combined. The car has a large 22.4-gallon fuel tank, which takes it to a colossal range exceeding 450 miles.

The naturally aspirated V-8 in the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is without a doubt the most inefficient of the lot, with just 15 mpg combined. The Land Rover Range Rover also returns low mileage, though it has the largest 27.7-gallon fuel tank, which is good to go for 500 miles easily. In highway range, Land Rover stands way ahead of its rivals with 637 miles.

The front seats of the 2014 X6 have impressive space and a commanding position over the performance. It looks similar to the X5 SUV on which most of the underpinnings are based. The seats are sportier and the cushioned center console is unique to the X6.

The materials are top-notch with emphasis on practicality and usability rather than beautification. The X6 has a dramatically slung roofline that cuts into the headroom on the rear seat. The rear seats are further only available with a 2 seater configuration and a 3rd seat has to be added optionally.

The 2014 X6 offers the least room in the rear, with a highly lacking headroom. The 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport offers much better space and can even be fitted with reclining and massaging chairs. How intuitive is the 2018 BMW X6’s infotainment unit?

The car comes with the iDrive interface, which can be controlled via a rotary dial in the center console. The knob has a slow learning cycle though once you get used to it barely takes any time to access any functions.

The car has barely any body roll through the corners, which is a blessing when taking on curvy roads. The coupe SUV in our opinion is a rather drab and out of proportion looking car. However, in general, the engine is well powered and is highly efficient and also offers some great convenience features. The car is responsive and does offer a brilliantly well-specced handling and road-hugging capability. Overall the car in our opinion is too overpriced to be a serious pick in the segment.
