About 2022 Honda Civic

4.2

Overall Rating

The redesigned 11th generation 2022 Honda Civic was released on April 28, 2021, with a new and bigger exterior build, new colors, and a spacious yet minimalist interior. All set to reach dealerships for sale in Summer 2021, the EX-L trim has been discontinued leaving only 4 trims on offer with the MSRP ranging between $21,700 and $28,300. Under the hood, the 2.0L and 1.5L turbo engines have been retained and been reworked to increase the power specs and improve fuel economy.

The 2022 Honda Civic sedan enters its 11th generation with a complete redesign both on the inside and on the outside including newer exterior colors such as Meteorite Gray Metallic and Sonic Gray Pearl. At a starting MSRP of $22,350, its updated trim lineup of LX, Sport, EX, and Touring now ditches the EX-L. The 158 hp base and 180 horsepower turbo engines under the hood can now churn up to 42 MPG.

The Civic 2022 raises the bar up a notch for its rivals such as the Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, and Mazda 3. Interior updates include a standardized 7-inch and an optional 9-inch infotainment system. While the 14.8 cu-ft of cargo capacity is simply practical, Honda has still efficiently managed to squeeze in more comfortable front and rear seats. One can even lay hands on the 306 HP Honda Civic Type R and 200 HP Si if craving more thrill.

The 2022 Honda Civic EX is the best one as per its investment in this production as it offers a better safety suite than the SE and LX with its added BLIS and Cross-Traffic Alert. And, in the meantime, it is as exciting in drive as other higher editions with the same 180 hp 1.5T engine. The interior engagement is also at par with others with a standard 7.0-inch infotainment system and a one-touch power moonroof.

Cons

•How low the car sits, •Honestly just personally wish the catch wash shaped different

I totally Love the interior when it comes to long lasting and durable and the steering is great with handling and still giving a lose feel the gas milage is beyond great being a hatch and you can use it from your everyday vehicle to sport all the way down to causal driving Great look for almost any occasion definitely recommend if your thinking about it in general

2022 Honda Civic Review

The redesigned 11th generation 2022 Honda Civic was released on April 28, 2021, with a new and bigger exterior build, new colors, and a spacious yet minimalist interior. All set to reach dealerships for sale in Summer 2021, the EX-L trim has been discontinued leaving only 4 trims on offer with the MSRP ranging between $21,700 and $28,300. Pricing and Features
8.0/10

Basically, the Civic looks better inside and out, remains a terrific compact sedan to drive, and its surprisingly spacious cabin and trunk provide impressive practicality - Autoblog

With all the changes in the design and specs, the trim configurations of the 2022 Honda Civic have also been shaken up. Compared to 2021 MY, the EX-L trim has been discontinued and only 4 trims continue this year- LX, Sport, EX, and Touring. The 2022 Civic LX trim gets the ball rolling with bare-bones features at a starting MSRP of $22,350. The 2022 Civic Sport trim upgrades to bigger 18-inch alloy wheels, an 8-speaker sound system, and a Smart entry with remote start for $23,750.

Typical to Honda vehicles, the new Civic 2022 sedan gets a more powerful 1.5L turbo-4 engine on the Civic EX and Civic Touring models along with added creature comforts and technology. For a compact sedan that is lavishly equipped, the price of the 2022 Civic does not seem to be too much.

Along with the changes in the standard Civic sedan and hatchback, the 2022 Honda Civic Type R will also be getting remodeled with a more powerful engine as it arrives later this year. For now, the sedan brings a thorough refresh to the interior, exterior, and MPG figures. The powertrain specs remain unchanged for the 2022 Civic sedan.

That said, there are a handful of accessories also available for sale that adds more value to the car.

The turbocharged 1.5-liter engine is outstanding. It’s quiet and smooth, and the power (180 horsepower) arrives in a pleasantly linear fashion - KBB

Despite major changes all around, Honda has chosen to retain the same engines from the 2021 Civic for the redesigned 2022 Honda Civic. Under the hood, with the Civic LX and Civic Sport trims, you get a 2.0L naturally aspirated inline-4 cylinder engine which is primed to produce 158 hp and 138 lb-ft of torque. The 2022 Civic EX and 2022 Civic Touring trims get the 1.5L turbocharged inline-4 cylinder engine that has been worked upon to increase the power output to 180 hp and the torque to 177 lb-ft. The CVT transmission remains a constant in both engines and so does the FWD drivetrain, and AWD.

Despite retaining the powertrain specs, an additional Sport driving mode has been added to the capabilities of the Honda Civic 2022. This makes it even more hands-on by increasing the throttle response and optimizing the output for peak performance. Thankfully, this CVT is one of the good ones and does not dull down the driving experience. However, for purists, the manual transmission has not bitten the dust just yet. Honda is bringing back the Civic Si in 2022 and the 2022 Civic Type R is also arriving later this year. Both of these will get the manual stick shift to juice out those RPMs.

Though the standard Civic was never made for performance, enthusiasts can't help pushing it down an empty strip of tarmac. To that avail, with the 2.0L pot, the 2022 Civic sprints from 0-60 MPH in a relaxed 8.2 seconds while the quarter-mile takes almost double the time at 16.3 seconds. With the turbocharged powertrain, the 0-60 MPH performance improves to just under 7 seconds. The brakes have also been beefed up this year since you get 11.3-inch rotors in the front and 10.3-inch rotors in the rear. These allow the sedan to stop from 60-0 MPH in 113 feet.

With its renewed avatar, the Honda Civic is actually underpowered in its base outfit. The only one that is less powerful is the Hyundai Elantra with 147 hp. This also reflects in its acceleration times which is the slowest amongst the rest by 0.1 seconds at the least. The Mazda 3 is the most powerful of the lot, the most athletic to drive, and also the fastest off starting the line, being 0.3 seconds quicker than the Civic. The Toyota Corolla has always been a bitter rival for the Civic and that continues this year as well. At a lower price, the Corolla also offers more power, comparable acceleration prowess, and world-renowned reliability.

Fuel Economy
8.5/10

We managed to achieve 33.4 mpg from our Civic Touring test car on our mixed-driving evaluation route. This isn't quite as high as we might have hoped given the EPA's numbers, but it's still an impressive showing - Edmunds

Despite being a sportier approach to a daily driver, the 2022 Honda Civic is actually quite fuel-efficient. However, the quirk is that the MPG figures vary depending on the trim. With the base LX trim, you get 31 MPG in the city, 40 MPG on the highway, and 35 MPG combined. Upgrade to the Sport trim, and these figures drop to 30 MPG in the city, 37 MPG on the highway, and 33 MPG combined. Surprisingly, the turbo powertrain is the most fuel-efficient, and that too only with the EX trim.

The EX trim offers 33 MPG in the city, 42 MPG on the highway, and 36 MPG combined. The top-of-the-line Touring trim again sees the MPG figures drop to 31 MPG in the city, 38 MPG on the highway, and 34 MPG combined. All of the trims come equipped with a 12.4-gallon fuel tank which results in the overall driving range wandering between 496 miles at its best, and 384 miles at its worst. While fuel economy is not a concern, the smaller gas tank will require more frequent gas station visits.

In contrast to the competitors, the Honda Civic 2022 is decently fuel-efficient even in its base avatar with the 2.0L engine. The Toyota Corolla does not make it easy for the Civic to go for glory since the Corolla offers similar kinds of MPG figures with a 0.8-gallon bigger fuel tank. The Hyundai Elantra is also fuel economical but still has ground to cover to reach the levels of its rivals. The Mazda 3 pursues performance over fuel frugality and hence offers the lowest MPG figures, being 4 MPG less efficient than Civic on the highways.

Interior
8.0/10

The new Civic’s interior is a little less exotic looking than the rival Mazda 3’s, but has a tasteful style of its own and is a little more user-friendly - Forbes

Enter the interior of the 2022 Honda Civic, and you will experience the "Simplicity and Something" design language all across the cabin. For the first time, at a 20 grand price tag, the vibe of the 2022 Civic interior feels minimalist and luxurious like a BMW 3-Series.  Instead of dedicated A/C vents, a honeycomb mesh panel runs across the dashboard with knobs popping out in 5 places. Perched at the top of the dashboard is the 7-inch or 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system which depends on the trim you buy.

Below the honeycomb panel, the climate control setting knobs have been provided with the shifter and cupholders in the center console. The multifunction steering wheel gets leather upholstery from the Sport trim onwards. The front seats of the Civic 2022 interior are comfortably spacious and get fabric and PU upholstery in the lower trims which gets upgraded to leather upholstery in the Touring trim, sadly there are no upholstery color options. The rear seats are equally comfortable and spacious to accommodate even tall guys comfortably.

As compared to the others, the Civic has the most well-distributed cabin with the maximum cargo space. The Mazda 3 and Hyundai Elantra are pretty evenly matched with their respective interior space, while both having 2 cu-ft smaller cargo volume. The Toyota Corolla shoves most of the space in the front cabin and leaves lesser space in the back. Furthermore, its compact dimensions result in the smallest cargo space of the lineup. In terms of entertainment, all the trims except the 2022 Honda Civic Touring come equipped with 7-inch touchscreen infotainment as standard.

The sound system varies between a 4-speaker and an 8-speaker setup with the smaller unit. Upgrade to the 2022 Civic Touring, and you get the 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a 12-speaker Bose Premium Surround Sound system. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and Homelink capabilities also come bundled as standard shipment. The infotainment system is very intuitive and user-friendly to operate and a breeze to get used to. Some of the notable features of the interior and infotainment system of the 2022 Honda Civic are-

  • Power adjustable front seats with fabric or leather upholstery
  • Multifunction steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustment and leather upholstery
  • Dual Zone automatic climate control
  • 7-inch/10-inch digital cluster display
  • 7-inch/9-inch touchscreen infotainment system

Exterior
8.5/10

The exterior of the 2022 Honda Civic has taken a dramatic turn - KBB

Owing to the birth of the new 11th generation, the 2022 Honda Civic has gotten a full redesign and also a new Meteorite Grey color. The dimensions have also been increased for better driving dynamics, improved performance, and better interior space. The wheelbase has been extended by 1.4-inches and the rear track has been made wider by 0.5-inch both of which aid in better stability, and more cabin space. The A-pillars have also been moved back 2-inches which reduces blind spots and offers better visibility.

From a quirky design in the previous generation, the exterior of the Honda Civic 2022 now gets LED headlamps with LED DRLs, and a sleek grille. At the side, the criss-cross of lines is gone and you get one smooth flowing silhouette that goes from the front to the back. Depending on the trim level, the wheel size also varies as you get 17-inch alloy wheels in the LX trims which get upgraded to 18-inch alloy wheels in all the others. Pop to the back, and you will get the feeling of the Honda Accord ghost staring back at you in disguise. Honda offers the 2022 Civic sedan in 5 no-cost paint color options and 2 premium colors for an added cost.

Despite being compact, the redesigned Civic looks bigger than it actually is. In this lineup, the Honda Civic is actually the biggest one and yet the shortest in height. Furthermore, it is also quite light for its dimensions. The Toyota Corolla is among the heavier ones  with a gap of 300 lbs over 2022 Civic and matches the Civic in almost all its dimensions. The Mazda 3 comes off as one of the bulkiest one despite being built very compactly to aid its athletic performance. The Hyundai Elantra takes the cake as the lightest car in the lineup, yet has 1 inch lower ground clearance than the Civic.

Safety

Driver assistance features are not only abundant, but their performance have been greatly improved for 2022, especially the adaptive cruise control system and its lane-centering capability - Autoblog

The safety standards of Honda have always been revered, and with the 2022 Honda Civic, these only become stronger. The redesigned 2022 Civic is yet to undergo crash testing from the IIHS and NHTSA, however, it is built upon the premise of the award-winning 2021 Civic. The 2021 Honda Civic scored a perfect 5-star rating from the NHTSA, an overall "Good" rating from the IIHS, and was a Top Safety Pick as well. So, expect the same kind of safety standard this year as well.

To take things further, the 2022 Honda Civic comes with the full force of the Honda Sensing Safety Suite right from the base LX trim. Go up the trim configurations, the safety features increase which justifies the hike in price as well. Some of the notable features in the Honda Sensing Safety Suite of the 2022 Civic are:

  • Forward-collision warning
  • Rear Automated emergency braking
  • Lane-departure warning & Lane-keeping assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Road Departure Mitigation System
  • Honda Lane Watch camera
  • Traffic Sign Recognition
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System

2022 Honda Civic vs 2022 Toyota Corolla

Starting with the exteriors, the Civic grabs the limelight in comparison to the Corolla. On the inside, the Civic has a clear advantage in terms of the infotainment system, features, space, and ease of use in general. The Corolla, on the other hand, feels a bit dull to drive as well than the Civic as well. However, if you love a Japanese sedan and want one for yourself, you won't go wrong with either of the two, with the Corolla being the comfier of the two to drive and be in.

2022 Honda Civic Vs 2021 Mazda 3 Sedan

The Mazda 3 has always been a very radical offering in this segment. But, comfort is a key aspect in which Mazda has made a lot of sacrifices to bring about its award-winning form factor. It's not much but when you pitch it against the well-balanced Honda Civic that has made its name in practicality, space, and reliability, the premium tag of the Mazda 3 sedan quite doesn't keep it afloat.

2022 Honda Civic Vs 2022 Hyundai Elantra

The Hyundai Elantra received a major redesign last year and hence feels fresh as today when you compare it against the newly launched 2022 Civic. The Elantra is cheaper to buy by over $1,000 compared to the Civic and comes with superb MPG figures and class-leading warranties as well. The Honda Civic, on the other hand, offers far superior build quality, unmatched reliability, and a terrific driving experience as well.
