2021 Chevrolet Suburban

The 2021 Chevrolet Suburban is available in six trims: LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country, with prices starting at an MSRP of $52,300. The 2021 Suburban is powered by a 5.3L V8 on all trims except for the High Country which comes with a 6.2L V8. 2WD (RWD) and 4WD are available on all trims, except for Z71 which is 4WD only.

Chevrolet offers many packages, stand-alone options, and accessories like performance upgrade package, max trailering package, driver alert package, advanced trailering package, rear media and navigation, 22-inch wheels, power third-row split-folding bench, second-row bucket seats, cargo nets, all-weather floor mats and many more.

Priced at an MSRP of $57,000, we recommend getting the 2021 Suburban in the LT trim and equip it with the 22-inch wheels, rear media and navigation package, driver alert package (advanced driver aids), max trailering package, and the Panoramic power sunroof.

The standard 5.3-liter V8 feels plenty powerful and eagerly shuttles the Suburban around town and up to highway speeds - Cars.USNews

The 2021 Chevrolet Suburban is powered by a 5.3L V8 making 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque and is standard on all trims except High Country (MSRP - 72,400) that has a 6.2L V8 making 420hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission that directs all the power to the rear wheels, 4WD is available for $3,000 (standard on Z71 trim). There is also a Diesel model featuring a 3.0L Duramax engine

The Chevrolet Suburban can do the 0-60 sprint in 7.2 seconds. This is the same 0-60 time as the GMC Yukon XL, but 1 second slower than the Ford Expedition Max. The 2021 Suburban comes with a top speed of 120 mph and comes with a towing capacity of 7,800 pounds (7,600 with 4WD), when equipped with the max trailering package it increases to 8,300 (8,100 with 4WD).

The 2021 Ford Expedition Max makes the most power of 375 hp even though it has a smaller displacement engine. The Chevrolet Suburban and the GMC Yukon XL both make 355 hp. In terms of towing capacity, the GMC Yukon XL and Suburban both can tow 7,800 pounds whereas the Ford Expedition MAX can tow 9,000 pounds.

The 2021 Chevrolet Suburban gives EPA estimated fuel economy figures of 16 mpg in the city, 20 mpg on the highway, and a combined of 18 mpg. This is 1 mpg less combined and city mpg, and 3 mpg less on the highway when compared to the Expedition MAX.

When equipped with the 4WD the mpg numbers drop by 1 in all three criteria. With the 6.2L V8, it gives 15/20/17 in the city/highway/combined and drops 1 mpg in all three when the 6.2L V8 is combined with 4WD. The 2021 Suburban comes with a 28-gallon gas tank, irrespective of the engine or drivetrain.

Compared with its predecessor, the all-new 2021 Suburban's cargo and passenger space is notably larger - Car And Driver

The 2021 Chevrolet Suburban's interior is updated for the start of its newest generation. It has a seating capacity of 8 and on the Premier and High Country trim comes with 7. The remaining trims can opt for 7 with the help of the second-row captain's chairs. The fleet (commercial use only) is the model which comes with 9 seating capacity and is an option for the LS trim.

Irrespective of the trim, the 2021 Suburban comes with power-adjustable seats for the front row 10-way driver (12-way on higher trims) and 8-way for the front passenger. The interior upholstery is cloth, on the LS, the other trims get leather on the first two rows, with Premier and High country getting Perforated leather. The 2021 Suburban has a cargo capacity of 41.5 cu.ft. same as the Yukon XL and more than the Expedition MAX.

The 2021 Chevrolet Suburban comes with a 10.2-inch touchscreen which runs on the Chevrolet Infotainment System 3 Plus interface which is also customizable, HD radio, USB ports including type-C, Bluetooth connectivity, wireless Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, voice-activated technology, and Wi-Fi hotspot, SiriusXM (all-access trial package), 9-speaker bose system.

On the LT and higher trims, the 10.2-inch touchscreen comes with Chevrolet Infotainment System 3 Plus with navigation and real-time traffic, this is standard on the Premier and High Country trims, which also have a 10-speaker Bose sound system. There is the option of a rear seat media system that comes with dual 12.6-inch HD touchscreens (which also comes with the Rear Media and Nav package).

The 2021 Chevrolet Suburban has been redesigned on the exterior. It features a similar design to the Tahoe's front fascia. Its exterior features a large grille and 18-inch wheels, active aero shutters, black-colored assist steps, black roof-mounted side rails, heated power outside mirrors, LED headlights and taillights, deep-tinted glass, and solar absorbing windshield.

The exterior does vary a bit based on the trim, the Z71 trim gets 20-inch wheels and dark accents as standard, on the RST and higher trims get 22-inch wheels as standard with all-season tires. Customization options are many including wheel styles, panoramic power sunroof, and trailering packages, and many more.

The 2021 Chevrolet Suburban measures 225.7-inches in length which is marginally longer than the Yukon XL and 3.8-inches longer than the Expedition MAX. The Suburban is also 2.6-inches longer wheelbase than the Expedition MAX. However, the Expedition MAX is 2.5 and 2.6-inches wider than the Suburban and Yukon XL, respectively.

The 2021 Chevrolet Suburban comes with an NHTSA overall safety rating of 4-stars out of a possible 5-stars, and this is for both 2WD (RWD) and the 4WD drivetrains. The IIHS has not yet crash-tested the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban. The 2021 Chevrolet Suburban is based on the new platform as well.

The 2021 Suburban's safety features include 7-airbags, automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, rear park assist, and a few more. Advanced driver-assist features like front and rear park assist, lane change alert, blind-zone alert, lane departure warning are all optional except on the Premier and High Country trims.

2021 Chevrolet Suburban vs 2021 Ford Expedition MAX

The Ford Expedition MAX comes with more power, better performance, more mpg, and better towing capacity than the Chevrolet Suburban. The Ford Expedition Max even offers more space in thrid row than the Suburban but lesser trunk space than the Suburban. However, the Ford Expedition MAX is $2,500 more than the Suburban, with what is on offer, the Expedition MAX is a better offering.

2021 Chevrolet Suburban vs 2021 GMC Yukon XL

The GMC Yukon XL makes the same amount of power and gives the same performance including towing capacities and comes with a lot of the same mechanical parts and same structure too. The difference between the two is the styling and finishes, which the GMC offers better interiors. The Yukon XL is $1,400 more in price and does make it a better option.
