2011 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Review

Pros

  • Good performance
  • Spacious trunk

Cons

  • Interior design is a bit outdated.

The 2011 Corvette Grand Sport comes at an MSRP of $55,045 and brings many features like a two-tone leather interior, heated seats, Bose audio system, and more.

Overview

The Chevrolet Corvette is a good sports car that you can get when you are on a budget. The Grand Sport, however, is a whole different story, as it is more visually appealing than the standard Corvette and comes with its own tuning setup. Powered by a 6.2 liter V8 making 430hp, it does the 0-60 sprint in 4.0 seconds and comes with rear-wheel drive only. The interior is spacious and the trunk space is more than enough for you to carry a lot of items. The Corvette Grand Sport comes at an MSRP of $55,045.

Pricing and Features
7.0/10

The 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport comes in a single trim. The trim is well equipped with premium and sporty features. It also comes with its own unique style to set it apart from different Corvette models. The 2011 Corvette Grand Sport comes at an MSRP of $55,045 and brings many features like a two-tone leather interior, heated seats, Bose audio system, and more.

We recommend

We recommend buying the Corvette Grand Sport, and we also recommend getting the two down leather interior. We also advise you the optional magnetic ride control suspension which adjusts the damping to the way the car is being driven. All in all, the Corvette Grand Sport is a serious pick in the segment.

Engine and Performance
8.2/10

The 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport is powered by a 6.2 liter V8 which makes 430 hp and 424 foot-pounds of torque. The engine is paired to a six-speed manual transmission, which directs all the power to the rear wheels. There is a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and is available at no additional cost.

In the performance tests, the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport does the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 4.0 seconds and the standing quarter-mile in 12.4 seconds. It will then continue to its top speed of 180 mph. These numbers are quite good from a naturally aspirated car.

Interior
8.4/10

The interior of the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport can accommodate two occupants comfortably. The interior features depend on equipment packages. The base package - 1LT does offer leather upholstery with a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, which gets upgraded to power-adjustable sports seats with power lumbar support on the 2LT package.

The 3LT package offers heated seats and driver memory settings. The 4LT gets a two-tone interior. Dual-zone automatic air conditioning is available on all trims. The Corvette Grand Sport offers a trunk capacity of 22.4 ft.³ which cannot be expanded but this amount of space is very good for the segment.

The most amount of front legroom is offered by the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport. However, unlike its competition, the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport does not offer second-row seats but does have a lot more trunk space than its competition, specifically nearly double the space. With 11.1 cu-ft of trunk space, BMW M3 Coupe stands last on the table. Major interior features include-

  • 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat
  • Power-adjustable sports seats with power lumbar (2LT)
  • Heating function and driver memory functions (3LT)
  • Two-tone interior style
  • Dual-zone automatic air conditioning

How intuitive is the Infotainment unit?

The standard infotainment unit included in the 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport includes a CD player, satellite radio, steering wheel-mounted controls, and a seven-speaker audio system. The 3LT trim includes a heads-up display. As optional extras is the navigation system and six-disc CD changer available. Few key features include-

  • CD player
  • Satellite radio
  • Steering wheel mounted control
  • 7-speaker audio system
  • Heads-up display
  • Navigation system
  • 6 disc CD changer

Exterior
9.0/10

The Corvette Grand Sport could be called a Targa as it comes with a removable roof panel. The rest of the car is instantly recognizable as a Corvette. The Corvette Grand Sport does have its own styling on the outside as it comes with vents in the front fenders complemented with accent stripes.

The fenders themselves are wider than the other Corvette models. The wheels are also a unique set specific to the Grand Sport (18-inch front and 19-inch rear). The available exterior optional extra is a transparent roof panel.

In terms of exterior dimensions, the Corvette Grand Sport is shorter in length and height as compared to the BMW M3 and a Ford Mustang. Apart from this, the next major difference comes in the form of curb weight where the Corvette Grand Sport is 300 lighter than the next lightest car. Major exterior highlights of the coupe are-

  • Removable roof panel
  • 18-inch front wheels
  • 19-inch rear wheels
  • Unique wheel design
  • Front fender vents
  • Available transparent roof panel

Safety
8.0/10

The NHTSA and the IIHS have not yet crashed tested the 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport. Both organizations have not crashed tested the regular Corvette as well. We expect the Chevrolet Corvette to do well in its crash testing. Chevrolet has equipped the Corvette Grand Sport with many safety features, some of the safety features are:

  • Traction control
  • Multiple airbag system
  • OnStar emergency services
  • Automatic crash response
  • Tire pressure monitoring system
  • Anti-locking disc brakes
  • Active handling (Corvette exclusive stability control)

Final Verdict

The 2011 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport is a good sports coupe; it does have a good performance output from a naturally aspirated engine and offers spacious interior even though its competition offers more seats. The technology is good, and it also offers more range than the others. We would recommend buying the car.
