Best features ever!

Pros

Hands free radio, Great on gas

Cons

Not a lot of room for anyone in the backseat, Love everything else

My husband is disabled and in dialysis. We have to travel 65 miles one way to treatments and dr appointments and then 65 miles back home. We do this 3 to five times a week. The impala is great on gas and I love how it tells me how many miles left for what had is in the car. All controls for the radio are right on the steering wheel. It's a very smooth ride. The seats are comfortable. ... Read more

2011 Chevrolet Impala Review

Pros

  • Available 6-passenger seating
  • Large trunk space

Cons

  • Unpowered engines
  • Lesser geared transmission

The Chevrolet Impala, being an affordable sedan, comes at a starting MSRP of $25,320 and comes into competition with the Ford Taurus and the Chrysler 300.

Overview

Chevrolet Impala is a classic sedan, however, the 2011 model does not keep up as much as people would expect it to. It comes with two engines: a 3.5 liter and a top-of-the-line trim’s 3.9 liter V6 and the power is directed to the front wheels. The interior is simple and spacious, the trunk does have a good amount of space, and the technology is really basic. The Chevrolet Impala, being an affordable sedan, comes at a starting MSRP of $25,320 and comes into competition with the Ford Taurus and the Chrysler 300.

Pricing and Features
8.0/10

The Chevrolet Impala comes in three trim options - LS, LT, and LTZ. The LS and LT trim comes with a 3.5 liter V6 and the LTZ comes with a 3.9 liter V6 making a bit more power than the base engine. Irrespective of the engine, power goes to the front wheels of the car. The price range of the sedan falls between $25,320 and $30,860.

We Recommend

If you are to buy this car, we recommend getting the LT trim. The power difference in the bigger and smaller engine is not much, so a fuel-efficient engine will do the job. We recommend getting the Luxury package as it adds more features to be as comfortable as possible. All in all, the LT trim has the best value for money proposition.

Engine and Performance
6.6/10

The 2011 Chevrolet Impala is powered by a 3.5 L V6 engine making 211 hp and 216 foot-pounds of torque. This engine is found within the LS and LT models. The LTZ model comes with a 3.9 L V6 engine, which makes 224 hp and 235 foot-pounds of torque.

Both engines are paired to a four-speed automatic transmission where they direct all the power to the front wheels. In performance testing, the base engine does the 0 to 60 sprint in 8.1 seconds and the quarter-mile in 17.3 seconds while achieving a top speed of 135 miles an hour.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

The 2011 Chevrolet Impala will give 19 mpg in the city, 29 mpg on the highway, and a combined mpg of 23. It comes with a 17-gallon fuel tank, which allows it to have a range of 323 miles in the city, 493 miles, and highway in a combined range of 391 miles. The more powerful and bigger displacement V6 found in the LTZ will give an estimated 17 in the city, 27 on the highway, and a combined of 21 mpg with the same fuel capacity. The range of the V6 engine is just marginally lesser than the base engine.

Interior
6.8/10

The interior of the Chevrolet Impala can seat the 5 occupants comfortably. There is the option of seating 6 but this is only available on the LS and LT trims which replace the two front seats with an optional bench seat available. The driver seat in the 5 configurations of seating is a power-adjustable seat and the front passenger seat is manually adjustable. Cloth upholstery is standard on the LS. The same is featured on the LT trim with the addition of dual-zone climate control.

The LT trim comes with the option of a luxury package, which adds another upholstery, heated front seats, and a power-adjustable front passenger seat. It also adds a fold-flat rear seat. This package is included in the LTZ trim and adds an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat. The Chevrolet Impala has a trunk space of 18.6 ft.³, which can be expanded only in the LT and the LTZ trim by folding down the rear seats.

The base Chevrolet Impala comes with an on-star system, which also has the features of the CD player, satellite radio, and a six speaker sound system. The base trim has the options of audio functions on the steering wheel and Bluetooth connectivity, which is featured standard on the LT trim. Exterior
7.5/10

The design of the Chevrolet Impala is quite simple and looks like a standard sedan that you will see every day on the roads. However, on the exterior, Chevrolet does offer a good set of features, which include 17-inch alloy wheels and automatic headlights on the base trims.

The LT trim offers a different design set of 17-inch alloy wheels along with fog lamps and rear spoiler. The top-of-the-line LTZ offers 18” alloy wheels, and as an option, a sunroof is available.

The heaviest in the competition is Ford Taurus at 4,015 lbs. Major exterior features include-

  • 17”-inch alloy wheels

  • Rear spoiler
  • Heated side rearview mirrors
  • 18” alloy wheels

Safety
9.5/10

NHTSA has not yet crash-tested the Chevrolet Impala, we are expected to have good scores. The IIHS has crash-tested the Impala and has given it a decent score with two scores of good and two scores of acceptable in its testing. Chevrolet does install many safety features in the Impala, some of these features are:

  • Stabilitrak - stability control system
  • Traction control
  • Multiple airbag system
  • OnStar services
  • Automatic crash response
  • Tire pressure monitor
  • Safety belt pretensioners

Final Verdict

The 2011 Chevrolet Impala comes with a decent set of features and two engine options, which are vastly underpowered when compared to the competition, which offers a similar displacement engine with a lot more power. The interior space is adequate, and the technology is good. However, due to the engine size and power output, we do not recommend buying this car.
