2011 Ford Mustang Review

For the year 2011, the Mustang has been made available with two engine options. In a segment that features the Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro, the Mustang is the best bet.

Ford Mustang is undoubtedly the most sought-after muscle car in the segment. Its coupe-like structure allows for a sporty stance, and its V6 engine adds a dash of sportiness to the car. The Mustang is agile in its handling, it is fuel-efficient, and has strong reliability ratings. For the year 2011, the Mustang has been made available with two engine options. In a segment that features the Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro, the Mustang is the best bet.

Pricing and Features
8.0/10

The 2011 Ford Mustang Coupe is available in two different trims; a base V6 and a V6 Premium. While both trims use a similar engine and transmission setup, the basic difference between the two cars lies in the number of features. The Premium trim gets additional features like navigation from telematics, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a premium sound system. The base trim is priced at $22,145 while the top-end Premium trim is available for $25,845.

We Recommend

We recommend buying the Premium trim for its sheer utility and functionalism. While both trims feature a similar engine, the top-trim is laden with additional features like a premium sound system, the option of a backup camera, and steering wheel controls. Thus, the Premium trim brings better value for money offer.

Engine and Performance
9.2/10

Beneath the lid of the Ford Mustang sits peacefully a 3.7L V6 that churns out 305hp of engine power and 280lb.-ft of torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed-manual transmission that is effortless in usage. The Mustang coupe by default is available as a rear-wheel-drive variant only.

The powerful V6 engine boosts the Mustang from a still to the 60 MPH mark in 5.6 seconds and completes the quarter-mile run in 13.7 seconds. While the top speed is not known, considering the Mustang’s quick performance in other tests, the car is expected to perform equally well.

In the muscle car race, the Ford Mustang is the quickest car. The Chevrolet Camaro, despite its higher power output, is the slowest car in the acceleration test. The Dodge Challenger has similar power output but is slower than the Mustang taking 6.4 seconds to the 60 MPH mark. All three cars in the segment make use of a V6 engine. While both the Mustang and Camaro make use of a 6-speed-manual transmission, the Challenger is the only car that is mated to a 5-speed-automatic.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

The Mustang coupe isn’t just your affordable sports car but doubles up as a daily driver. The fuel-efficient Ford stands to impress. It manages an average mileage of 19 MPG in the city and that of 29 MPG on the highway. Combined, the Mustang averages 22 miles per gallon of fuel. It has the smallest fuel tank in the segment, and consequently covers a lower range managing 304 miles in the city and 464 miles on the highway.

Interior
8.2/10

The cabin of the Mustang looks as classic as it could be. The dual-tone dashboard adds a lot of character to the cabin, while the infotainment system that sits centrally adds a lot of practicality to the Mustang.

The seats feel lowly placed but still grant a lot of comfort to the passengers, however, the rear seats feel cramped, and there is very little legroom on offer. The Mustang has a total head-, shoulder- and legroom of 38.5/55.3/42.4 and 34.7/51.6/29.8 inches, respectively. While the cargo capacity of 13.4 cubic feet is not the highest in the segment, it is decent for a car that falls in a sports car segment.

Like every other Ford car, the Mustang’s infotainment system is easy to use and responsive. As standard, the Ford Mustang involves features like the AM/FM stereo, auxiliary audio input, and CD player. Some advanced infotainment features include a radio data system and a USB connection.

The base trim of the Mustang’s infotainment system comes connected to a 4-speaker sound system. As one moves up the trim ladder, the standard speaker system gets replaced by an 8-speaker-sound system. Other salient features include:

  • Satellite Radio
  • Mast Antenna
  • USB connection
  • AM/FM Stereo
  • 4-speaker sound system

Exterior
8.0/10

The 2011 Ford Mustang’s exterior design elements garner a lot of attention. Cruise through the streets of New York in a Ford Mustang, and you are sure to turn a lot of heads. The hunkered down structure causes the Mustang to have a sports car like stance. The chiseled bonnet allows for great viewing angles, and the way in which the roofline tapers to merge seamlessly with the taillights looks aesthetically pleasing.

Upfront, the Ford Mustang badging looks athletic. The Mustang is 188.1 inches long, 73.9 inches wide, and 55.6 inches tall. While its ground clearance is not known, the Mustang has a wheelbase that is 107.1 inches. The Ford Mustang coupe is the lightest car in the segment at 3,453 lbs.

The muscle car segment holds a special position in the automotive market, and the Ford Mustang is a premium inclusion. The Mustang coupe looks striking and appealing. It is quick, fuel-efficient, and has decent space for a sports car. Its affordable price sticker makes it alluring. Though the Mustang may have some problems, it shines brightly even with its flaws, and we think it is a stellar vehicle.
