We Recommend

Since the trim levels of the Jeep Patriot is limited only to two trims, there are some packages on offer which further adds to the feature list. Ideally though for basic purpose and off-roading, the AWD-equipped Sport trim is the best value-for-money option along with the Power Value Group package.

Engine and Performance
6.9/10

The Jeep Patriot is powered by a basic 2.0liter straight-four motor. Given the size of the vehicle, the powertrain is somewhat adequate and is good for 158 horsepower and 141lb-ft of torque. The engine is okay for performing day-to-day activities and movies around in the city traffic.

If you want more out of the vehicle, the AWD variant of the Sport offers a more powerful 2.4liter motor with a horsepower of 172. The motor is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission which allows for quick shifts.

The Subaru Forester has the best power output among the rivals on the list and it also comes with a unique flat-four configuration. The Mitsubishi Outlander offers a bit lower power figures but is quite good as compared to the Jeep.

Fuel Economy
6.9/10

The fuel economy of the Jeep Patriot is quite respectable considering the class of vehicles it belongs to. The main reason behind it is the 2.0liter motor which compromises a bit on performance to maximize fuel efficiency. The SUV returns a good 23mpg on the city limits and a healthy 29mpg out on the highway. The combined rating is also quite good at 25mpg.

The Subaru Forester’s flat-four engine compromises on fuel efficiency for the performance aspect but only by a slight margin if compared to the rivals here. The Mitsubishi Outlander is the most impressive one here with almost similar fuel economy ratings as the underpowered Jeep Patriot despite having a bigger motor.

Interior
6.6/10

The 2011 Jeep Patriot gets upgraded interior materials including door panels and interior panels. But the cheap quality plastics and the poor fit and finish levels overall disappoints to quite some extent. The comfort levels are also not at par with the competition and the vehicle is best suited for short trips and city driving.

The front seats are reasonably comfortable while the rear seats offer the same amount of comfort with restricted legroom. The Patriot offers a mere 54cu-ft of cargo capacity which makes it tough to carry more items in a single go.

Bot the Subaru Forester and the Mitsubishi Outlander offer better interiors and comfort as compared to the Patriot even though it might look like they’re less spacious than the Patriot.

Infotainment

The infotainment system of the Jeep Patriot comes with a 6.5-inch touchscreen display and a 30GB hard-drive to store all your favorite songs to keep you entertained on the go. Some optional features include UConnect Bluetooth with voice command functionality and Sirius Satellite radio. Overall, the system is quite decent in nature and has the capability to make your short trips less boring than usual.

Some highlighted features of the infotainment system are listed below:

  • AM/FM Stereo
  • Auxiliary Audio Input
  • CD Changer (Optional)
  • CD Player
  • UConnect Bluetooth
  • Voice commands
  • Sirius Satellite radio

Exterior
8.0/10

The Jeep Patriot tries hard to appeal to the off-roaders as well as urbanites with its boxy and chunky design language. The vehicle possesses the aerodynamics of a brick with its design but looks and feels quite utilitarian from the outside which looks reminiscent of bigger Jeeps such as the Cherokee.

The seven-slot grille, round-shaped headlamps, and the rugged cues have been retained from the previous model but comes with an extended front and rear fascias. The ground clearance is also quite respectable at 8.1inches.

The Subaru Forester has the best ground clearance closely followed by the Mitsubishi Outlander. Both the vehicles come with a modern design language while wearing a rugged appeal too.

Safety
8.2/10

The Jeep Patriot comes with a car-like structure and a host of safety techs. All these help the SUV to achieve a 4-star out of 5 rating from the NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS along with their maximum possible “Good” rating. Some of the safety aids onboard the Patriot include electronic stability control with rollover mitigation, off-road brake traction control and hill descent control.

Some highlighted safety techs of the Jeep Patriot SUV are:

  • Brake Assist
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Child Safety Locks
  • Traction Control
  • Off-road brake traction control
  • Front and side airbags

Final Verdict

The Jeep Patriot carries on the legacy of the brand with a similar old-school design that was found in the previous Jeep vehicles. But while doing that, it falls quite short in terms of overall comfort and practicality factor. Its base engine is quite lackluster and offers mediocre fuel efficiency as well. Its rivals offer a much better package at a similar price bracket.
