The 2011 Lexus GS 350 sedan is powered by a naturally aspirated V6 motor. The 3.5liter unit generates a decent 303 horsepower and 274lb-ft of torque. The power figures might not convince you that the motor is capable but once you’re behind the wheel, you’ll feel the performance to be adequate and since it is a luxury-oriented sedan, the powertrain is also tuned to be quite relaxed well.

Since most of the GS350 sedans will be chauffeur-driven you’ll find the performance to be at par with the rest of the sedans in this segment.

Among the rivals, the BMW 535i comes with the most efficient powertrain with pushing out equal horsepower and torque figures. The Mercedes-Benz E350 has the lowest power ratings among the three on the list.

Full-size luxury sedans were never exactly fuel-efficient and the Lexus GS 350 sedan is not an anomaly either. With a sizable V6 under its hood, the sedan returns a decent city mileage of 19mpg and a good 26mpg while out on the highways. The combined mileage is rated at 23mpg.

The BMW 535i is the most fuel-efficient on the list with its turbocharged I6 motor although by a slight margin. The Merc E350 is the least economical on the list and it is outright disappointing since it is also the least powerful on the list too.

The interior of the 2011 Lexus GS 350 is quite plush and covered in premium materials all around. There are ample rich leather, wood, and aluminum trims everywhere but the seats are a bit too flat for a luxury car.

There is a very restricted headroom at both front and back but the plush ride and the premium leather upholstery compensates for that. The interior is well executed though with top-notch fit and finish along with plenty of features as well.

The BMW 535i feels more spacious and comfortable than the GS sedan and that is what you’d expect from a German luxury sedan. The E350 sedan is also on the comfier side with nice ride quality and plenty of headroom and legroom on offer.

Infotainment

The Lexus GS 350 comes with a high-resolution touchscreen infotainment system. The system can be controlled via the circular buttons placed on either side of the display panel too and it can display a wide variety of information ranging from climate control values to navigation and a standard menu homepage. Just below the screen sits the climate control buttons while the CD player and volume knobs are placed below it. The overall system is not so intuitive but quite easy to use and doesn’t distract too much while driving. The navigation system is pretty straight-forward and the high-resolution display steps up the experience of it.

The Lexus GS 350 doesn’t look anything like an aggressively designed sedan. It is mainly aimed towards those who seek comfort and luxury and are less bothered about the exterior appeal. However, the design is not bad though.

The front end looks most ordinary with a rectangular mesh front grille flanked by two-part headlamp units. The side profile is neat too with no unnecessary lines or bulges and it continues towards the rear end too. The overall width of the sedan is lesser than its rivals, making it a bit more maneuverable in tight spots and city traffic. As far as the luxury car standard goes, the ground clearance of the sedan is at par with the rivals.

The BMW 535i looks more premium and sporty than the GS 350 with its design and overall external appeal. The ground clearance of the 535i is also slightly better than the GS 350 as well. The E350 is the widest and the tallest one on the list which translates to its excellent and spacious cabin.

Since Lexus is under the wings of Toyota, safety is one of their top priorities while making a vehicle. The Lexus GS 350 comes with some advanced as well as basic safety aids that go the extra mile to keep the occupants safe under almost any emergency situation. The sedan has not been rated by the NHTSA but the IIHS gave it the best possible “Good” rating which speaks a lot about its overall safety quotient. Some of the standard safety features include traction control, front and rear side-impact airbags, Safety Connect telematics with stolen vehicle locator, and a sophisticated VDIM stability control.
