2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara Review

Pros

  • Good off-road capability
  • Spacious and comfortable interior

Cons

  • Bouncy on-road performance
  • Below-average fuel economy and safety scores for the class

The thing about the 2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara is that it attempted to be an outstanding SUV that dominated the market, but unfortunately, it fell bland and tended to blend into the background with its average and forgettable performance.

Overview

The thing about the 2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara is that it attempted to be an outstanding SUV that dominated the market, but unfortunately, it fell bland and tended to blend into the background with its average and forgettable performance. However, not all is wrong with the Suzuki Grand Vitara; it has successfully provided its owners with an array of standard features that genuinely aims towards improving the general quality of the ride.

Pricing and Features

The 2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara is a compact crossover SUV that is offered in three trims namely- base, Premium, and Limited trims, which provide a series of features and optional packages that can be customized according to one’s choices. The difference in the trims deals with the addition of standard features, which functions better in addition to the increase in the price range.

We Recommend

It would be wise to opt for the Limited trim as it offers the best the lineup can offer. Being the top-most trim that contains most of the standard advanced features, it is quite impressive in comparison to the base trim. If comfort is not what you expect from your car, the base trim will be the smart choice.

Engine and Performance
7.3/10

The 2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara is offered with a 2.4L Inline-4 engine that facilitates the power output of 166hp and provides a torque of 162lb-ft. The engine produces a decent performance, although it is not thrilling enough. The low power output of the engine makes the ride less engaging than most of its rivals in the market. The cabin is quiet but it gets noisy at higher speeds.

The 2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara comes with a rear-wheel-drive drivetrain that is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. The acceleration performance of the SUV is not something to boast about. The 2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV sprints from 0-60MPH in 10.8 seconds and reaches its quarter-mile in 17.8 seconds.

From the data, it is evident that the Honda CR-V offers a relatively more powerful engine in comparison to its rivals. However, its engine is not strong enough to facilitate a fast acceleration. The Chevrolet Equinox comes next in terms of power output, and it is the fastest car in the segment. The Suzuki Grand Vitara comes last in this segment in terms of power output and acceleration performance.

Fuel Economy
7.1/10

The 2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV has received quite some flak for its poor fuel economy. Despite having a low-powered engine, the SUV fails to make its mark against the rivals in the segment. The 2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara has a fuel capacity of 17.4 gallons and offers 19MPG within city limits, 25MPG on the highways, and a combined mileage of 21MPG.

The data is indicative of the fact that it is the Chevrolet Equinox that offers a better fuel economy in comparison to its rivals. Moreover, it also provides the maximum fuel capacity which leads to maximum range in the segment. The Honda CR-V comes second, however, it provides the least fuel capacity. The Suzuki Grand Vitara provides the least fuel economy and range in comparison to its rivals.

Interior
8.1/10

The 2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV is decently built inside. It has gained an appreciation for being spacious and comfortable. The ergonomics of the cabin make the interior quite attractive. The cabin is well-lit and practical, with a special emphasis on functionality.

Additionally, the cabin offers a series of features that enhances the interior. However, despite being attractive on some level, the interior appears uninspiring as it offers nothing new to its owners. The 2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV can seat 5 occupants with maximum comfort, and it offers a cargo capacity of 28.4 cubic feet.

How intuitive is the infotainment system?

The infotainment features of the 2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara comes along with a 6.5-inch touchscreen display that hosts a majority of its features. The infotainment unit is one of the highlights of the car as it includes a list of advanced features that come as standard. Moreover, the infotainment interface is quite intuitive and responsive in nature. It is also user-friendly and easily accessible that improves the overall feel of the ride. The main infotainment features of the 2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV include:

  • CD Player
  • Bluetooth
  • USB Ports
  • Satellite Radio
  • 4 Speaker Sound System

Exterior
8.1/10

The exterior of the 2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara is “nice” to look at. The design is appealing, although there is nothing much to comment on. The exterior tries to look stunning but falls flat. The design is proportionate for a crossover SUV but its styling feels uncreative and forgettable. The exterior includes LED headlights and steel wheels. Additionally, there exists a distinct running line that moves from the front fascia to the rear bumper that gives the Grand Vitara a muscular look.

Safety
8.6/10

Final Verdict

The 2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara had the potential of being a strong performing car but its overall engineering fell flat, as a result of which the car is underwhelming and unimpressive in nature. Although, the performance of the engine is adequate but the Grand Vitara gets overshadowed by its better-performing rivals. Upon analysis, this Suzuki has more flaws than strength, therefore it wouldn’t be a bad decision to give this SUV a miss.
