Overall Rating
Audi has had a semi off-roader in the past but this is the first time it’s had the real deal. This year, Audi has increased the power stats of the base engine.
For 25 years, Audi has been making Quattro for its cars and now it's made a car for Quattro. That car is the Q7, a big 4x4. Audi has had a semi off-roader in the past but this is the first time it’s had the real deal. This year, Audi has increased the power stats of the base engine. After adding horses, it sums to 280 horsepower from a 3.0-liter supercharged V6.
We recommend you go with the base Premium trim. This trim pretty much sums up all the features as standard. If fuel economy is your main concern then look for the turbodiesel model instead of the gasoline-powered models.

The gasoline-powered Audi Q7 is available in two trims namely Premium and S-Line Prestige. The Audi Q7 is well outfitted with standard power windows, mirrors and door locks, a 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and steering wheel audio controls. Adding some pizzazz to the Q7 is the S-Line Sport package which adds unique front and rear bumpers, aluminum trim, and 20-inch alloy wheels with performance tires

Buying Advice
We recommend you go with the base Premium trim. This trim pretty much sums up all the features as standard. If fuel economy is your main concern then look for the turbodiesel model instead of the gasoline-powered models.
Big cars need big engines and the Audi Q7 is available with a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 which delivers excellent performance. This engine makes 280 horses of power and 295 pound-feet of torque. The S-Line Prestige trim boosts the power and torque figures to 333 horses and 325 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic is the only sole choice of transmission. The first thing you notice above the Q7 on the road is that it looks every inch of its length and you never really lose the sense of how big it is while driving.
It’s not built for American villages, that’s for sure. But with air suspension that lets you choose between comfort and sport settings, you get a car that corners with poise while still delivering a decent ride. You can even lower the suspension to help when loading and with the Quattro all-wheel-drive system, it’s no surprise the Q7 has good grip and traction through and out of corners. It’s also competent mild off-roading but doesn’t try anything too adventurous.

The underpowered Q7 gives a tough challenge to the Lexus GX460 thanks to its quick-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. In second place is the Acura MDX and is the cheapest car in this segment. Finally, on the top place is the Mercedes-Benz GL550 with incredible pace and agility.
The Q7 with 280-horsepower V6 returns 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. The best part of the Q7 is that even the more powerful S-Line Prestige trim producing 333 horses have the same fuel estimates. Its large fuel tank can deliver a combined range of 501 miles.

The Acura MDX is the most fuel-efficient SUV in this segment. The Lexus GX460 also offers similar fuel estimates. On the third spot is the Audi Q7 while the least fuel-efficient SUV is the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. It has the worst fuel figures and ends up in the last place.
Audi has carved out a good reputation for the layout and quality of its interiors and the Q7 doesn’t let the side down. Everything is where it should be, looks good, and works well. Based on the cockpit of the A6, the driver-focused dashboard is beautifully trimmed and uncluttered
Also, there’s plenty of room and adjustment of the driving position. As the name implies, the Q7 seats seven though the two rear seats aren’t really for grown-ups. Everyone comes out of it well though and there’s plenty of flexibility in the way the seats slide fold if you want more luggage space. The wide rear hatch is compromised by a high lift-over height making loading cargo somewhat difficult.

In the first two rows, all the rivals offer adequate head and legroom but things take a different turn in the third row. The Mercedes-Benz GL-Class offers class-leading head and legroom while the Acura MDX offers the least. In terms of cargo volume, the Q7 is the least practical. Some of the other interior features include:
The Q7 serves up a bevy of high-tech features. A 6-inch touchscreen display is standard on all models. Most comfort and convenience features are controlled via the multimedia interface, a round knob surrounded by four buttons. In practice, Audi’s MMI system is easier to use than BMW’s similar but more complicated iDrive. The base Premium comes with an 11-spear sound setup with a subwoofer while the top-end S-Line Prestige comes with a 14-speaker Bose premium surround sound system. Some of the other features include:
One of the savviest crossovers on the planet is the Audi Q7 although it’s nothing like the behemoths made by America. Every car designer likes to describe their creation as looking like it's in motion while standing still but the Q7 actually does. A rising lower body line and the sloping roofline give the impression that the Q7’s shape was formed by the passing wind.
Looking like an Audi wagon with an extra six inches of height grafted to its midsection, the Q7 brings classic graceful style to a segment known for hulking squared-off exteriors. Bold wheel arches and large wheels and tires give a nod to the Q7’s rugged side.

The Acura MDX has the smallest wheelbase of 108.3 inches while the Lexus GX460 is the shortest SUV in this competition. It shares the same ground clearance of 8.1 inches with the Audi Q7. At 5412 pounds, the Q7 is the bulky SUV in this segment. Some of the other exterior features include:
Only IIHS has rated the new Audi Q7 for its crashworthiness. It has scored ‘Good’ ratings in all the categories. Front, front-side, and three-row curtain airbags are standard while second-row side-impact airbags are optional. Known for its technology, the Q7 is fitted with top safety systems to prevent the risk of an accident. They include:
If you need lots of cargo room, we think you’ll like the Q7. Even though it drives like a smaller vehicle, the Audi Q7 is more than200 inches long, giving it 11 cubic feet of storage space behind third-row seats and a mammoth 88 cubic feet with second and third rows folded. If your travels require room for seven full-sized adults, you may not like the Q7. The third-row headroom is tight, making the rear-most seats suitable for children only.
