Overall Rating
Buying a sports sedan isn’t as easy as buying an affordable midsize sedan as it not only is expected to be comfortable for daily rides but also needs to have the performance to have some serious fun.
Buying a sports sedan isn’t as easy as buying an affordable midsize sedan as it not only is expected to be comfortable for daily rides but also needs to have the performance to have some serious fun. Along with that, the latest greatest technology, sleek styling, fancy badge on the hood, and yet be exorbitantly expensive to buy and run, and the Infiniti G37x boasts of achieving all of that for the enthusiast buyers.
The standalone trim means that there are no trims to choose from. That being said, there are a few additional features and options packages offered by Infiniti that adds more luxury to the car. But in our opinion, they could be avoided as the car already offers most of the required features. All in all, the sedan in its base configuration offers value for money.

The G37x in itself is sort of a trim in the G sedan lineup, and hence, has no further subdivisions under it. It comes as a fully loaded feature-packed single variant with a standard all-wheel-drive configuration. It boasts of some of the most advanced technology and creature comforts available in this segment at a price of just $39,395.

The Infiniti G37x is powered by a powerful 3.7-liter naturally aspirated V6 engine that produces a whopping 328 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission, and the power is sent to all four wheels as standard. The performance from this powertrain is pretty impressive as it takes under 6.5 seconds to speed to 60 mph from standstill while the quarter-mile is covered in under 14 seconds.

The Buick LaCrosse is the most affordable car in this comparison, and hence it has marginally lower engine output which makes it about half a second slower than the Infiniti. The Acura TL, on the other hand, is a bit pricier than the G37x and yet has lower power output, thus it is right at the tail of the G37x in the straight-line acceleration tests.
The large powerful V6 engines usually do not return high fuel economy numbers, and although the G37x isn’t particularly a gas guzzler, it isn’t as efficient either. The EPA rates the 2012 G37x for 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, with the combined fuel efficiency rated for 20 mpg. The large 20-gallon fuel tank does make life easy, offering the additional driving range, which is about 400 miles on a single tank of gas.

The Acura TL has marginally higher fuel efficiency than the other two sedans present here, but it employs a marginally smaller gas tank which translates to a shorter driving range than the Infiniti. The Buick too has a smaller gas tank and has an efficiency similar to that of the Infiniti and hence offers a driving range on par with Acura.
The cabin of the G37x has high-quality materials all around, and the stylish design is further accentuated by the Japanese "Shodo" aluminum trim or optional wood trim and leather-accented magnesium shift paddles. The front seats are pretty supportive and comfortable, and while the optional sport seats have a snug fit, they could be too snug for larger occupants. The sedan comes with a cargo capacity of 13.5 cubic feet.

The Infiniti has a larger trunk than the other cars while the Acura TL has the smallest, but the difference isn’t that substantial. The Acura on the other hand has superior legroom at the back as compared to Infiniti but lacks headroom. The Buick LaCrosse lacks front-row headroom due to the sunroof, but has the most spacious cabin and boot in this comparison. Standout interior features available with the sedan are-
The G37x employs very user-friendly and intuitive controls, and the iPod interface is amongst the best in the business. The standard audio system is decent at best, but the available Bose stereo is particularly impressive. There are plenty of other goodies like satellite radio, Navigation, and Bluetooth connectivity, which enhance the overall experience in the car. Few standout infotainment features include-
The one thing that we believe that Infiniti needs to work on substantially is the exterior styling. Although the car is in no way ugly, and in fact looks pretty stylish and sleek, apart from the rear lip spoiler, it does not offer many sporty elements on the outside. Although this gives the car a sleeper vibe, a certain amount of flashy treatment would have made a big difference to the overall appeal of the car.

The Infiniti G37x is the most compact sedan in this comparison, and yet, it has the longest wheelbase on offer. The Buick LaCrosse is the longest, while the Acura TL is marginally shorter than the Buick. The LaCrosse has the highest ground clearance on offer, while the G37x rides closest to the ground. Major exterior highlights of the sedan include-
There are various safety gadgets in place in this sport sedan to keep things in control even when pushing the car to its limits. Although neither the NHTSA and IIHS have crash-tested the car, the basic G sedan on which this car is based gets a decent rating from the IIHS. The standard features list is pretty impressive, but it misses out on a few driver aids offered by its rivals. Major safety features include-
The Infiniti G37x intends to be the big boy car without the big boy car price tag. It offers immense value in terms of performance and technology, but a minimalist design, unrefined cabin, and lack of luxury features and driver aids do hamper the experience. That being said, if you still narrow down to this car, the strong market value would be an additional benefit and thus would be a decent pick for the segment.
