Considering the market and the rivals, it only makes sense for us to recommend the EX trim of the Kia Sedona. It is feature-rich, with a decent performance and nimble handling. Also, the Luxury Package is a must. Whether to choose the Premium Entertainment package or the Navigation package is a choice you must make based on your needs.

The car gets one engine as standard. This engine is a 3.5L V6 with an output of 271 hp @6300 rpm and produces a torque of 248 lb.-ft @4500 rpm. This engine is pretty good and can offer some light performance as well.

The car is coupled to a 6-speed automatic gearbox, with manual shift control. This car comes as a front-wheel-driven car as standard. The minivan touches the 60 mph mark in 8 seconds and completes the quarter-mile in 16.1 seconds.

All the three minivans manage similar times for the 0-60 mph mark. The Kia does it in 8 seconds (quickest), the Honda takes 8.2 seconds, while the Nissan Quest manages it in 8.8 seconds, which is the slowest in the competition. The same goes for the quarter-mile mark as well, although the top speed numbers are nearly the same at 134 mph. All the three minivans are good handlers and are very planted on the straights.

The Sedona’s fuel economy is on par with its rivals. It takes a small hit in the highway mileage, but otherwise, the city and combined value are as per standard. The Kia outputs 18 mpg in the city, 25 mpg on the highway, and 21 mpg combined. It has a fuel capacity of 21.1 gallons. In fact, all three cars have similar fuel capacities and similar mileage numbers.

The range of the Kia stands at 379 city miles and 527 highway miles. The Honda has a range of 378 city miles and 567 highway miles. The Nissan has a range of 380 city miles and 480 highway miles. From this, it’s clear that the cars perform similar in the city, but the highway range differs quite a lot. The Honda Odyssey has the most highway range, while the Nissan the lowest.

The interior of the Kia is rather plain and simple. What’s worth noticing is that despite the simple interior, it does not appear unattractive at all. The materials used inside by Kia are good but can do with more quality and finish.

There are some buttons and knobs that feel cheap and plasticky, however, these controls are well placed and are easy to use. Only the climate control’s manual controls can be confusing.

The Kia’s interior space is huge and very comfortable. All three rows provide adequate comfort and support and are great on long drives as well. Any 6 feet tall passengers won’t have a problem with the third row. Also, there is a lot of pocket storage space on the inside that comes in very handy when needed. The car offers a 32 cubic feet trunk space, which is good by the segment standards. The 60/40 split-folding third-row seat allows for an extended trunk space of 80 cubic feet. How intuitive is the 2012 Kia Sedona’s infotainment system?

Kia offers a rich infotainment system that is powerful as well as easy to use. The system offers CD/MP3 stereo, satellite radio, USB/auxiliary jack, and Bluetooth. The Premium Entertainment package includes a rear-seat DVD entertainment system and a 10-speaker Infinity audio system with a six-disc changer. The Navigation package adds a navigation system and eight-speaker Infinity audio. Some infotainment features include:

Kia has an unusual design that does not appeal to many buyers now. In the front, you have large headlamps that run along with the side upper bumper. The grille is small, surrounded by chrome accents.

The bonnet is very slanted, and when viewed from the side, it nearly matches the angle that the windshield makes towards the roof. The side is simple, with body-colored mirrors and a cutout where the sliding rear doors slide. The rear however has a large window and visibility is pretty good out of all the sides. Overall, the car has a slightly boxy stance to it.

The 3 cars are similar in weight and differ by a few lbs. The Honda Odyssey is the longest car here with a length of 202.9 that just beats the Kia by a slight margin. It is big in its width too, and the passengers were more comfortable in the Honda than in the Kia. The Nissan is the tallest with a height of 73 inches. The IIHS gave the Kia Sedona a “Good” crash safety rating in the frontal-offset and side-impact tests, which is a good standard. Not only this, the other Kia models in the line-up have gotten an upgrade, and it just feels like the Sedona has been neglected. We hope an update comes as soon as possible because the car deserves it. All in all, if you have a budget constraint, then you can go for the LX trim. But if you can consider the EX trim, we suggest you look at other options too.
