The Audi RS 5, having been on sale in the European market for the last couple of years, has finally hit the shores of the US this year. While it’s clearly an interpretation of the best sports coupe in Audi’s brand line, this car delivers all that the brand promises with few limitations that make its competitors edge out of the competition.
The 2013 Audi RS 5 comes in one well-figured trim that evolves into two different body designs. The Audi RS 5 offers a room for 4 people with ample legroom space. It comes with standard features like LED running lights, heated front seats, and split-folding rear seats. Since today we are focusing on the coupe variant, it is available for grab at $68,900.

We Recommend
Since there are no extensive variants and trims, we recommend the Coupe as there are no major features that the Cabriolet has to offer. Even though you spend some more money on the optional dynamic sports package and 20-inch wheels, the net effect is merely the same. All in all, the trim as it is gives a good value for money deal.
The Audi RS 5 is available with a single engine option which is a 4.2L V8 unit that is capable of churning out 450 hp of power and 316 lb.-ft of torque. As standard, the RS 5 is available as an all-wheel-drive variant that makes use of a 7-speed Automatic transmission with manual mode.
In terms of performance, the Audi RS 5 can sprint from a still to 60 MPH in 4.9 seconds, making it a worthy competitor in this segment. Further, its quarter-mile timing of 12.5 seconds makes it one of the quickest cars on offer in the segment. In the top speed test, the RS 5 records 174 MPH.

In comparison, both BMW M3 and Mercedes C63 AMG use a V8 engine that generates great power and torque. The Audi C63 comes with an All-wheel drive, whereas the M3 uses a rear-wheel drivetrain to always stay in the hunt on track. The BMW M3 can hit a speed of 60 MPH in 4.5 seconds and a quarter-mile in 12.6 seconds, while the C63 Coupe clocks 4.2 seconds and 12.4 seconds respectively in the acceleration test and quarter-mile run.
The Audi RS 5 with its sleek body design looks more fuel-efficient. It manages 16 MPG in the city and 23 MPG on the highway. Its combined efficiency of 18 miles per gallon of fuel is the highest in the segment. Its fuel tank has a total capacity of 16.1 gallons, and it manages to cover a total range of 257.6 and 370.3 miles in the city and on the highway, respectively. It is the most fuel-efficient car in this segment even with a high revving V8 engine.

When compared, the BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe are considerably less efficient, managing 16 and 15 combined MPG, respectively. The C63’s fuel tank of 17.4-gallons is the largest in the segment, while the BMW’s is a bit larger than RS 5 with 16.6 gallons. In terms of range, both cars lack behind the Audi RS 5.
The Audi RS 5 can seat four passengers. Its cabin hasn’t changed a lot from the previous generation except for small changes in the center console. The leather-wrapped flat steering is aesthetic as well as sporty and gives you an impression of a sports cabin in the first stance. The RS 5’s in-cabin controls aren’t easy to navigate, while the aluminum buttons are particularly pleasing to press. The central console houses the electronic handbrake, transmission shifter, and rotary knobs.
The seats on offer feature two upholstery options: premium synthetic and leather. The occupants of the front seats give ample space to lock in themselves for longer ride durations, while the rear-line offers very little space reserving that for only small passengers. The ride quality is smooth, and the flat-bottomed steering wheel makes it so easy on the corners. A cargo capacity of 10.2 cubic feet is quite less given the competitors in this segment offer more space.

The infotainment system that the RS 5 comes equipped with features a 6.5-inch driver-focused display screen, Bluetooth and audio connectivity, and Audi’s trademark Multimedia Interface. The infotainment system gets managed by the MMI controller, which is a bit difficult to access. The design is starting to look a bit dated, particularly the graphics on the MMI infotainment screen.
As standard, the Audi RS 5 gets connected to a 10-speaker sound system. The rearview camera and navigation system also get connected to the display screen. To further improve the experience, one can also opt for Audi’s MMI Navigation Plus Package. Some other salient features include:
The 2013 Audi RS 5 sports a better design with revised styling, more chrome work on the front end, and a striking RS 5 badge on the aggressive-looking grille. While it sits on the skeleton of S5, only the hood, doors, and roof are untouched compared with the S5. There's a new rear fascia with a beefier diffuser and an active spoiler on the decklid.

The 2013 RS 5 is a symbol of Audi’s engineering excellence. Even though most of its competitors are turbocharged or supercharged, RS 5 makes some meaty power out of its naturally aspirated engine.
