The BMW 5 Series now comes in three different engines, the 528i model equips a 2.0 Litre turbocharged inline 4 engine that produces 240 horsepower and 255 lb-feet of torque. In comparison, both the Audi A6 and Jaguar XF are equipped with a turbocharged 2.0 Litre Inline 4 engine that delivers similar performance as the base 528i delivers. The Audi A6 is mated to a front-wheel drive, while Jaguar XF makes use of a rear-wheel drivetrain. The A6 takes 6.7 seconds to hit 60 mph and 13.3 seconds for the quarter-mile, while the Jaguar XF clocks 6.4 seconds and 14.6 seconds, respectively, in the acceleration test and quarter-mile run.

The 528i with the Inline-4 engine is the most fuel-efficient sedan of all the variants. It's the best in this segment. The 528i gives a mileage of 24 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway, averaging 28 mpg. It features a fuel tank of 18.4 gallons, which is above average in this segment. With full tank capacity, the 528i can run for 441.6 miles in the city and 625.6 miles on the highway.

When compared, the Audi A6 and Jaguar XF are considerably less efficient, managing 24 and 23 MPG, respectively. The Audi A6 has the largest fuel tank in the competition with 19.8 gallons, while the Jaguar XF has the same fuel tank capacity as the 5 Series. The 2013 BMW 5 series interior has undergone few changes that make the cabin more driver-centric. The instrument cluster in the middle is angled in favor of the driver.
